Yeah because when I actually cited people I read up on, any of them were in my shell. I did mention stuff I had been doing for years and hey, fine, it can be construed as being full of myself, but in this case it was definitely to state that not everyone was living in earl, JP-mentality ruled stereotypical 2005. Nynja, he was stating it as an example/evidence of why he felt the way he did, the same thing anyone does to help prove a point, and what he said is perfectly true too... I remember first seeing Ryko's posts and gear for his jobs years ago, and he's always been equiping himself well, even when it was against what most people thought was "best" at the time. And believe it or not with him being an LS leader, his gear decisions influence a lot of the other people around him.

While what I say has a very cynical tone to it, a lot of it has to be taken at face value. When I said that you shouldn't be faulted for this sudden bullshit eureka trend, I meant it. I'm sure you read the previous posts in their entirety, but in the case you haven't, I'd suggest that you do so when you find the time. I loathe yes-men. I can't stand them, it bugs me to think that someone is just smiling and nodding so theyll just be accepted, it gets under my skin and quickly. The people I keep around me tend to be the people who are most prone to disagree with me with reason so someone just backing me up so they'll get noticed is bothersome. And yeah, with that, that's how I view people who have absolutely nothing of value to add to things except shit like ohemgee's last post. In no way do I blame you or would try to make it sound that way, and as a player and a person I think you're a perfectly cool guy. That said that bullshit sheep mentality is just that, bullshit.

I understand, sorry for jumping to conclusions then as I misunderstood your motivation/reasoning. But I know exactly what you mean when it comes to the whole yes man thing, and as I mentioned briefly in that post I admit I don't like it but at the same time there's little I can do to prevent it. I don't doubt it at all but the thing is, at that time people didn't know or believe they were the right answers. I'm not doubting how long a lot of the information has been present in this game nor anyone's knowledge of who discovered/publisized what at all. As I said my focus in this argument was about the FF population as a whole advancing as the majority of the players start listening to the right people, testing equipment choices to make proper decisions, trying new things that end up being more effective, etc. And this advancement was rather slow in the long run.

In that case I disagree, those people who take those steps to figure it out should be regarded, should be acknowledged, and shouldn't be just cast aside because they don't have someone shamelessly sending shoutouts their way at any given opportunity.

I'm not sure if I was unclear but I think we're on the same page in that regard. I do feel the people who took steps to figure things out should be regarded and acknowledged, and not cast aside. I take every chance I can on NIN/DRK topics where people seem to credit me as the 'inventor' to correct them and give credit where credit is due... However, in the context of this topic I just didn't feel the focus of the argument would be properly placed on 'who did it first' as opposed to 'when did people finally listen and put it into effect?' Since this is mostly about how gameplay as a whole has advanced in respect to how an average melees equipment choices/strategy/performance has evolved.

I apolgize for the mocking tone in which I was expressing myself, so I did my best to be as plain about it this time around. I do dislike a large portion of brainless fodder melees that have absolutely nothing of value to say until their heroes decide to do it for them, and I disliked them back when they were using me as the same kind of reference. It has little to do with you or anyone who takes great lengths to legitimize their efforts and time put in, but in reality the coat tail riders bother me.

Don't feel you have to apologize at all lol, my tone was off-hand too. And in the end it was mostly just me misunderstanding your post for the most part. It happens, and I still hold a lot of respect for you and everything you've done all the same, regardless of any disagreements we have.

Answering the question above of when people realized that melees > BLM zergatory, I think the biggest change was when the BLM nerf patch came in. True, some LS's were doing semi TP burns, or having a fair mix of both, but when that patch hit, I did notice a lot of people try to TP things down and such, and it actually worked!

It's kinda unfair though imo that when melees zerg something down (with less mindyou) they get no penalty, yet when BLM did that we got a nerf patch multiple times (hi aerns no more chain300, hi magic dmg reduction etc).

I always thought that Aern summon nerf was kind of silly, it was hardly game breaking at all yet they fixed it almost right away. Meanwhile all the important stuff remains unfixed as BLMs curse SE for ruining what was nothing more than an easy way to get high chains.

Btw, I just love this thread and it's inevitable ability to go from post relics > relic utility arguments > whole bunch of unrelated other stuff at least once every 1-3 months.

That's a pretty loose metric lol. FYI, I had relic before hitting 75 blm. I mostly leveled the job to participate better in the Manaburn dynamis I was already co-leading at that point. Even once I hit 75 blm I came as mnk about 30% of the time.
