What's the big hype bout relic thfs having war sub lvled? From what I can tell of most thfs they still use /nin in xp and /sam or /drk for events
soyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyy
No. Simple as that, no.Originally Posted by ninjafox
Both archain and div seem to prefer /nin for their relics, no? /war helps buff mercy stroke (obviously), which is why people say you should have it leveled. But, its not the end all be all.

/WAR is incredibly over-rated and will basically only provide you with a fat e-peen and an upset mage. Basically, you do about the same dmg as /NIN without being an MP sink (as far as I know, anyway).Originally Posted by ninjafox
Gotcha so this is the reason =P. Cuz I remember it was you vs some other mandau thf with /war and iirc you had outparsed that person. So I was just wondering where it all started.Originally Posted by divisortheory

When using weaponskills pre-Mercy Stroke, I really enjoyed using /WAR in merit parties. The Attack gained from Berserk really helped both my DoT and my WS (I also could only at best triple attack a max of one time with my favorite burn WS, Dancing Edge because it was a 5x). When you start using Mercy Stroke as your burn WS (to be used @ 100%TP) then you start to notice that you can actually do two firings of multiproc skills internal to your WS (I'll show with screenshots below).Both archain and div seem to prefer /nin for their relics, no? /war helps buff mercy stroke (obviously), which is why people say you should have it leveled. But, its not the end all be all.
I use /NIN in merit parties now because the "hate pull" with regular DoT/TP build hits is high even without the use of +enmity gear equipment like Homam Manopolas or Cerberus Mantle. Problems would arise after single wielding Mandau where regular melee strikes would not allow you to get behind an enemy because it's attention is shifted constantly to you and back to anyone else that is able to brink with you on the enemy's hate order. While only a temporary target at times you have no defense against monster casted enfeebles and the TP build time was slower. You will build TP at a quicker rate as THF/NIN using Mandau/Blau Dolch (176/178), Suppanomimi (-5% Dual Wield Delay), Trait granted Dual Wield Delay Reduction (-15%), Equipment Haste, DA (5%) and TA (12.5%), and the Haste spell.
A Level 75 THF/NIN with Dual Wield II and Suppanomimi (a bonus of -20% Delay) using a Mandau with 176 Delay and a Blau Dolch with 178 Delay would get:
Combined Delay : 176 + 178 = 354
Reduced Delay : 354 * (1 - 0.20) = 354 * 0.80 = 283
Reduced Delay per hand : 283/2 = 141 delay
NIN SUBBED --> TP gain per hand : 5.0 + [(141 - 180) * 1.5] / 180 = 4.675... ? 4.6 TP/hit
WAR SUBBED --> TP gain : 5.0 + [(176 - 180) * 1.5] / 180 = 4.966... ? 4.9 TP/hit
NIN SUBBED ? Add in Store TP --> 4.6 TP * 1.07 (Raja's, Brutal, and Chiv) = 4.922 truncated to 4.9 TP
WAR SUBBED ? Add in StoreTP --> 4.9 TP * 1.07 (Raja's, Brutal, and Chiv) = 5.314 truncated to 5.3 TP
Since MS is a 1-hit weaponskill, you can also double and triple attack in the offhand stike because the WS alone will not approach the WS strike cap. In merit parties where the enemies aren't normally as high in DEF as endgame content it seemed as if I could push out a higher average WS when subbing /NIN. On the High DEF content, I still suggest using a power subjob like /MNK, /DRK, or /WAR.
Single Wield ? Regular Mercy Stroke as a single wield weapon as /WAR or /MNK, for instance, would give (using the /WAR TP return above minus 0.1 Store TP for Soil Gorget)
5% TP ? Regular MS - Example #1
6% TP ? MS with Double Attack - No Examples
7% TP ? MS with Triple Attack - Example #1 w/ additional 5% TP strike in log.
Dual Wield ? Mercy Stroke using Dual weapons has the possibility of going up to dual triple on one WS.
4% TP? Regular MS as overkill, no off-hand strike included - No current example because these aren't screenshot worthy
9% TP ? Regular MS when dual wielding - Example #1
10% TP ? MS with Double Attack - Example #1 and Example #2
11% TP ? MS with Triple Attack or Dual Doubles - Example #1 w/ 10% TP from attacks in log. and Example #2
12% TP ? MS with Triple Attack and Double Attack - Example #1 and Example #2
13% TP ? MS with Dual Triple Attacks - Example #1 and Example #2 w/ 5% TP from strike in log.
The fact that you can do up to two multiprocs and always have offhand damage added in on your WS drive up the average weaponskill DMG for merit parties. You can peak over 3000 DMG with just 100%TP because you get a lucky set of multiprocs.

If you check an old comparison we did, you can see the difference in WS frequency in this parse.
Mandau THF/NIN and Mandau THF/WAR
Just taking overall WS DMG and dividing by Avg WS you can see a difference. The melee DoT does go up, but in a 60/40 Job like THF something has to even out. TP gain is slower and no protection is given from enfeebling effects and Rock Smash (due to focus). The difference in the overall parse may be less than half of 1% (.49), but you also get to dual wield with a Blau Dolch giving +16ATT and +5ACC as /NIN and become much less of a strain on MP because you aren't getting hit with Berserk up.
THF/NIN ? ~ 109 WS - 58% DoT/42% WS
THF/WAR ? ~ 93 WS - 62% DoT/38% WS
Do I still recommend levelling WAR as a subjob? Hell yes, you may not get BRD or COR treatment on high end enemies so you may have to provide your own means of boosting your ATT high enough to make your stabs actually mean something.
BTW, congrats!
