VE DOESN'T STAY CAPPED, IT IS VOLATILE.

CUMULATIVE ENMITY DOESN'T GO AWAY BY ITSELF.

IT ADDS UP ANY TIME YOU DO SOMETHING.

VE is a bucket with a leak in it.
CE is a broader shallow bucket without leaks.

VE will always run out at a set rate, so you gotta keep filling it.
CE will only run out when you get the bucket tipped (you got hit), otherwise it fills up.

When have I ever said they do not work like that? You think that only because VE is volatile, and decays over time, it can't reach the cap?

Let's see if examples work better for you.

0 sec-> 0 VE
Flash-> +1600 VE -> Total VE 1600

25 sec-> -1500 VE (60x25) -> Total VE 100
Flash-> +1600 VE -> Total VE 1700
Cure4 for 400 HP -> +2200 VE -> Total VE 3900

50 sec-> -1500 VE-> Total VE 2400
Flash-> +1600 VE -> Total VE 4000
Cure4 for 400 HP -> +2200 VE -> Total VE 6200

75 sec -> -1500 VE -> Total VE 4700
Flash-> +1600 VE -> Total VE 6300

and so on.

Can you see that the VE is raising, despite it decaying over time? That is simply because a Flash every 25 secs is enough to outdo the decay rate, and actions that give VE actually add up to the Total VE. Eventually after 5 Cure4s or other actions that give VE like Sentinel, you'll be at the cap of 10.000 very quickly, and at which point, let me repeat it, one flash every 25secs is enough to keep you at the VE cap.

It's true that once you are at the cap, one second before recasting Flash you will be at 8500ish VE, but if you are /rdm you should use spells like Blind or Bind (which cost 10mp) Sleep and Sleep2 (which are 19 and 29 mp) to keep yourself close to VE cap between Flashs, rather than using Cure4 which is 88mp. That was the point of my whole argumentation. Cure4 is not as effective for hate at some point, especially if you have to get hit to use it (thus losing CE). If you don't get what I mean here, read Stan's statement I have quoted on my first post.

The point of spell spam like dispel, flash, and cure, is to build up your CE rapidly, hit 10k and cap it out, and use as many volatile hate tools as you can to maintain a high VE level.

The way you are describing it, War should be a much better tank, but the only way we can really build CE is hurting things, and our VE tool, Provoke, is just an attention grabber which is gone by the time it's back up again.


You would have a better point, except that Dispel gives such a large chunk of CE to mix in with your rotation.

Get hit, lose 400 CE.
Cure yourself, gain 360 CE.
Cast Dispel, gain 320 CE.
Cast Flash, gain 180 CE.

vs

Lose shadow, lose 25 CE.
Macroswap Cure for 360 CE.
Cast Flash for 180 CE.

You get in slightly more flashes over time just from the fast cast of Pld/Rdm, and you gain access to the CE spells of /Rdm, of which several have large VE components.

Abused correctly, this is a very good way to tank, losing 40~ CE per hit/cure pairing (assuming you lost 400 CE from the hit, and didn't macroswap cure anyways), but gaining from all the tools you can spam.

You are missing my point completely, I'm not debating that /rdm is not a good sub for PLD. What i'm saying is the idea of getting hit by an AoE for 400dmg on purpose, to then proceed to cure4 yourself for hate, is useless once you're 5mins+ into the fight and you're just losing CE and MP, for the reasons I have described above.

PLDs can cap VE in about 30 seconds to start a fight using Sentinel. Say you have +20 enmity (pretty good assumption you have at least 20)

Sentinel (1800VE*1.2 = 2160VE)
Flash (1280VEx2 = 2560VE)
Self Cure Macro (1701VEx2 = 2802VE)

That's 7522 already in about 5 seconds. Couple other JAs and another Flash when recast is up will let you at least hit cap. It's actually really really impressive how strong PLD is at VE retention, even without using any sub magic or abilities. PLD was not nearly as strong "back in the day", but the Sentinel upgrade PLD received a few years back was quite game breaking for PLDs.

Sadly for PLD/WAR lovers, there's very little point to subbing /WAR at 75... PLD without sub caps VE so easily, which is all the added /WAR provoke provides. Defender is nice, but if you really really wanted defense, /BLU does this as well. I personally feel if PLDs in game moved towards blood tanking, it would end up being a battle between /DRK and /RDM, and /WAR becomes even more obscure due to lack of CE gaining abilities.

My 2 cents on this thread: Absolutely no one has attempted to dispute bolded lines. No self-respecting LS would let this kind of player in(or back in) the shell(or back as a leader of said shell) and no self-respecting player would want to be in a LS that so clearly has no morals.

I posted this back when I was trying to do endgame things, and having to be really annoyed at watching linkshells do three hour NQ Behemoth marathons of fail and annoyance. I've since quit doing (most) endgame things, and I've longed since stopped caring (mostly) about what Excellence does with its time.

I've surrendered the idea that endgame is for me for a few months now; at least on Hades. It's just too much of a giant clusterfuck shitfest.
