I thought you had to kill the captain while kiting Bubbly?

We were planning on having our THF with striders just keep kiting Bubbly until the cows came home while the rest of us beat on the captain..

Can you bind/grav Bubbly? I have tried to land at least grav on him, as blm/rdm, and it always resists.

I believe it was said that trigger for the second chest is killing Bubbly.

It was also said that once you kill the captain, then BC ends, and the chests you have earned, pop. Thus, you would not have completed the trigger for chest #2, let alone, chest #3.

Seeing as Hide enables SA to land from any direction, why not just kill the Imps, have the thief SA + hide, run in and attack the captain? Back turned or not, so long as Hide isn't broken, SA will land. Meaning, you have to land the first hit even if you aggro the captain and/or Bubbly.

Or... can you kill the Imps, pull and kill Bubbly separately, then wait for the captain to turn his back then SA or does once he is initially aggroed affect it?

i cant believe you guys actually think sneak attacking a nm will have any impact on drops.

Just like weaponskills have no special impact (lolHydra)
or dispel won't remove charm (lolLamiaAssault)
or mobs don't notice emotes (lolApkalluAssault)
or weather/day have no effect on mobs meditating or spamming TP (lolPuks&Eruca)

In the pre-ToAU era, I'd agree, but since ToAU come out, no whacky mob behavior or loot conditions would surprise me.

Sorry if it's been posted, but has anyone found the Ice Guantlets from one of these BCs yet?

No SAing a nm does not increase the drops but it'll instead give you the 3rd treasure box for this assault.

One of the conditions is that bubbly must not be touched/ take notice of you when you SA the captain or it won't work and the captain must be facing the window when the SA occurs. Then he'll have a dialogue. Maybe you could try the hide plus sa but since it is a NM i don't think hide works thus your SA will not land at all since you're already spotted.

THF THF WAR NIN RDM WHM

was our setup, we sneaked , sneak WS, tricked, trick WS, we did everything like that, no box. Sneak attacking the NM couldn't possibly have given a third box because we did that over and over without a third.

Did you read the second part of that post? It seems to imply that surprising the captain is the key to getting the third treasure box, and Sneak Attack is only part of that process.

We successfully landed SA on the captain whitout the monkey seeing us or the captain looking at us, and we indeed got a different message from him, so it seem to really be the key to get the 3rd chest.

Our problem was we pulled the monkey far to kill it (the captain was moving back to his area) , but then when we came back for the captain once the monkey was dead, we got a message like "you are too naïve, i was waiting you" and got only 2 box once he died.

I think you need to SA the captain at start, then have one person kiting the Captain while you kill the monkey (so he doesn't go unclaim and back to his area) and then kill the Captain.

edit: oh and we got our 1st pants too btw, 1/7 now, the key was to kill the Taru to make them drop, as usual ...

makes me wonder if the other missions have a similiar "narrative" condition to pop a 3rd chest. I think it'd be fun to Bind the Imp NM since he likes to fly around so fast.. and maybe that'd drop Dragon gloves?

    btw.. Bubbly has true sight?

I believe it was posted already how to get the 3rd on Tier 2.

    Chest triggers were stated as:

NPC lives till end = 1st
NM killed (because he will just leave if you take to long) = 2nd
Either no damage taken by NPC, or maybe just very little damage taken = 3rd

If tier 2 was done enough, I think it would be pretty easy to predict/know exactly which mobs will pop/aggro and when, and take action to claim them. I don't think any of them do an AOE damaging move, so as long as you get thier attention first, it shouldn't be all that hard.

I personally have not read, or heard of any occurance of a third chest popping on tier 1.

Wow I knew getting the 3rd chest to pop with my JP ashu talif pick up PT was weird today. Here's a screenie of the 3 chests.

    http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6601/img0219vz5.jpg

Our set up was RNG RNG NIN BRD WHM RDM.

It was difficult to understand wtf they were doing b/c it was all JP pt. I was lucky to get invited. Basically we entered the BC, pulled both Imps to the deck and killed them. After that we went in the captain's cabin, RNG pulled the monkey, we killed it in the cabin while our RDM brought the captain outside the deck, up the stairs. After monkey died, we all went outside and proceeded to kill the pirate up the stairs. Drops were Painite, Shuriken, mythril coin and something else forgot. The items appraised were Dynamo and Ruby... the usual shits.

I can understand the "SA + FLEE" to get a hit on the Captain. Has anybody had any experience with doing "SA + Cannonball" to peg the captain from a distance to avoid aggroing Bubbly?

My LS mate aesis found this on JP website: http://www5.plala.or.jp/SQR/ff11/quest/ ... shmau.html

    On translated view it says:
Armoury Crate and Gate:Lifeboat appear when Cutthroat Kabsalah (Fomor family) is knocked down.
When Bubbly (Opo-opo family) is knocked down, Armoury Crate of piece second is added.
The dialog when beginning to combat when making a surprise attack when it knocks down without bringing Windjammer Imp (Imp family) close to the captain room, and Cutthroat Kabsalah (Fomor family) looks out through the window with Bubbly (Opo-opo family) not noticed changes, and Armoury Crate of piece third is added
So what my PT did earlier today make sense. Bring Imps outside the deck to avoid detetection. After that, go in the Pirate's cabin and pull attack the captain ONLY when its looking outside the window to surprise it, triggering the 3rd armory crate.

So could it possibly be any sort of attack that happens while he is looking out the window, and you don't get seen by the chimp? Like ranged attack or a spell? Rather than just sneak attack, as from your earlier description it didn't sound like you had anyone SA him.
