Maybe you should just try to go *just* when Bubbly would notice you, to take care of lag issues ? Pretty much like the palace/garden Zdei for which you can go when the big eye is just in front of you because your client and reaction time are a little late with the server.

Just a thought though, that might be stupid.

I only go with 3 other people most of the time, so the variety in the roles we each can play is limited.

Couple of things from my double run last night. First, my initial SA was much stronger than any other SA/TA during the rest of the fight. About 2x as much damage...normally I'm around 150's.

And second, when it rains it pours - back to back drops on the gloves!

I meant to take an SS of where I stand, or a short video of the pull...forgot to do both ><

got third box tonight with nin, war, blu, rdm, whm. I pulled the captain on NIN, so sneak attack isnt needed (just clarifying in case this arguement wasnt put to rest yet)

For actually killing the captain, do most of you kite while killing it? I've been straight tanking it as NIN using DEF+ and DMG-% gear/food and it's giving me a headache.

    normally we go: NIN/WAR, DD/NIN(war or mnk), RDM/NIN, RDM/WHM
Can use PLD over NIN, and can use 1 RDM as BRD.

Curious if people have tryed to straight tank the captain with mambos yet.
Going full DEF/Tacos kills my DoT and the other DD has to hold way back. If I go Evasion or DD equip/food I end up getting my ass handed to me.

We win the majority of the time with the normal setup, but I'd really like to make it less of a headache. The only other options I see to make this smoother are:

1.) Kite the captain, elemental ninjitsu, or marksmanship for DD.
2.) Face tank with mambo (unsure how well it would work on captain)
3.) Face tank it DEF+/DMG- only use a different sub than /war (/drk /brd available) to hold it off the melee.

Like i said, what we do now works, but it's making me not like playing ninja lol.

The groups I go with always straight tank the captain with NINs. Today we did it with ninx2, war/nin, rdm/blm. The three melee just pass around the hate. That was the first time we had 2 nin though, usually have a blu or thf (or both) instead so NIN and WAR just trade it back and forth. In full evasion gear he misses quite a bit for me, I just cant keep hate through the whole fight against a WAR in their attack gear.

yeah, the captain is a total whore. When I kite him I just stay the fuck away and so all I have to deal with is blinking his /ra. Since I do this on monk, I sometimes have to run up and punch him a couple of times if it looks like he's not going to follow. He can tear right through my shadows, though, even in my full evasion kit. I kite him around the steps on the deck outside or up and down the steps inside the boat.

0/7ish now on Zerehs. FUCK SE.

I'd go with WAR/NIN or MNK/NIN + NIN/WAR blinktank, the key in this fight is hate sharing.

Just trade hate whenever shadow is down (at the rate of the captain's joyeuse and ranged attack along with assorted fomor WS, it'll happen fast) and kite when both timers are down, the captain moves pretty slowly that you can just run out and get your shadows back up.

My group consist of 2 NIN/WAR, 1 SAM/THF, and 1 RDM/WHM if we decide to 4 people it, or MNK/NIN, NIN/WAR, and RDM/WHM if we decide to trio it.

Both of NIN wears full DD gear. Don't even fucking bother with evasion gear because neither him nor bubbly will miss you often enough to merit wearing them. The only real problem happens when the SAM SATA'd one NIN for too much damage and the other can't get hate back (yhalo thar 100% darkness on fomor) but when that shit happens, you can have the NIN with too much hate kites while the other DD follows and melee it until the hates evens out again.

Also, having 2 NIN wearing mamushito+1 does stun him at a decent enough interval to makes thing somewhat easier.

PLD might work...but he does criticals me for 200-300 damage a pop on regular basis with my NIN DD gearset, and 100+ melee, and he also attacks quite fast since he has constant DA (his ranged attack round is about the only time you can recast shadows on consistent basis) so it will probably strains the healer.

If you try to kite him, any job that can get hate and shadow can kite him easily since he has auto gravity, so you just have to deal with his ranged attack and occassional auto-meditate'd Barbed Crescent. I personally think kiting him would be the best idea if you only have solo tank with DD that can't blinktank.

This fight is pretty easy if you can share hate between 2 tank/DD...my group has pretty much got this thing down to an art, I'm just pissed SE made it once per night deal (otherwise we'd have enough pants and gloves to outfit everyone in the group and enough attachments for every fucking PUP on the server)

We finally got around to doing this the other day. First run was a success with 3 chests poped. We straight tanked also, he's really not bad at all. I tanked most of the fight as thf/nin without much difficulty. Also had a mnk/nin and another thf/nin.

    Usually i'm doing it with SMN/WHM (me), MNK/NIN, RDM/WHM and BRD/WHM. Sometimes with a WHM/BLM friend too.

I just kite the captain around while the others kill Bubbly and then we fight the captain. Staight tank all the way, never really had any trouble with Haste and double March. Seems like he doesn't miss a lot but our MNK manages to keep shadows up with little curing except after Foxfire when the MNK is stunned.

My group has gotten two Yoishi's Sash so far.

The thing that makes them rare, IMO, is not the drop rate, but the fact that, from my experience, they have only dropped from Royal Painter Escort, not Targeting the Captain.

People that are spamming The Ashu Talif runs, are spamming tier three only. Gathering every other day, roughly, and only doing Targeting the Captain.

What my group does, is plan to gather twice a week, on the days that we previously planned on doing assaults only. On the days between runs, each of us needs to get to Nashaumu and pre-flag tier two and three.
On gather days, we run out to the cutter, do a Royal Painter and Targeting the Captain run, escape, and go back to Nashaumu, flag Targeting the Captain again, and run out through the subterain, back to the cutter for a repeat of Captain.

IMO, this makes the best use of our flags, and time, when we all have limited play time, and other commitments like Dynamis, when even that falls on different day for some of our group.

I think if you are after a Yoishi's Sash you will need to convince people to do Royal Painter Escort... sorry.

Back to my earlier issues, I still can't seem to surprise the captain. Someone in my LS said they always do it with THF and SA pull and get the third chest, which I'm willing to try but... I know people here have stated it wasn't necessary, and that they've done it without SA. Even a SMN has done it with Carbuncle.

Which brings me back to my problem. Since SA isn't required, chances are if I go in /THF I'll likely still fail to surprise the captain, even if I do land a successful SA on him because I'm doing something else wrong.

Anyone have any ideas on the specific requirements in pulling the captain that lead to successfully surprising him?

Typically, we pull an imp outside, kill it, then pull another outside and kill it. Then the party runs inside while I run up to the Great Cabin. At this point, I've tried both buffing outside then going in, and going in and buffing inside. When I get ready to pull, I stand as close as was suggested by others on this thread. Sometimes closer. Sometimes I use flee, sometimes I do not. I always run in when Bubbly is behind the captain, just as he is turning away again. Especially with Flee, I'm positive I make it before Bubbly turns again.

He always says "Huh? What are you doing here!" and he always says it the moment I whack him from behind.

It's a little frustrating that I can't seem to do this, so there must be something I'm missing or some little part I'm doing incorrectly.

We're after the pants, so the gloves aren't that critical, but it'd be nice to be able to do it right.

As I stated earlier, let someone else do it.

You are doing something wrong, and honestly, there is no reason for it not to be working for YOU.

So... take YOU out of the equation.

I believe you said your PT is not full. You go with a smaller group... so add someone that can kite. There is no good reason for you to /thf, it does nothing for you.

Get a THF/NIN. If they have any kiting abilities, they can do it easily, alone, so you only need to add one person.

If you have done everything you stated, then the problem is YOU.

Yes, the problem is ME, so I'm trying to figure out what I'M doing wrong, so I can fix it.

We'd simply grab another person if there was someone to grab. Not a lot of people we know are on 3rd tier who aren't in a static. We don't tend to do things with a small group because we want to, but rather because that's what we have. Given that assaults and the Ashu Talif are all designed for 3-6 person, this works perfectly for us and others who are not able to keep a full party throughout all the tiers. We started with a full party, too, back when we were lowly PSCs, but some quit the game or drop out and we are down to 3 people with SM (we're doing lower level assaults to rank up a couple more people). Similarly, with The Ashu Talif, we've only got 5, one of which hasn't been on in a while so we've been 4-manning it lately.

So, as far as your solution of letting someone else do it, I've done that already by letting the rest of BG do it. They've succeeded, so maybe someone can tell me what I'M doing wrong. If someone else in my party pulled and did it correctly, they'd have to somehow figure out what they did differently than me, and help me figure it out, too.
