Hellfire+1 always sucked, you did almost the same damage with Ebow WSs decked in STR with slower shots. Only point to it was to mellee

I assume thats what hes asking. If a RNG can reasonably well just melee again and slug at point blank range w/ hellfire.

I'm personally going to test out axe/ridill and hellfire +1 tonight.

What you have to understand about marksmanship (or, Rattk in general) is that the higher up you go in damage, the more drastic your DMG changes from little things such as skill and food. Ebow's total DMG, 109 is such that altering your Ranged Attack and skill will have a smaller impact on your total damage dealt than with hellfire. Deck yourself out in Marksmanship and ranged attack and hellfire is defenently comprable to ebow, especially with snapshot.

Ebow beats Hellfire hands down because it has considerably less delay and produces similar if not higher WS damage (because Sidewinder is naturally stronger than Slug Shot).

Talking about Snapshot is moot, because, an Ebow user with Snapshot will be tping considerably faster than a Hellfire user with Snapshot.

WAR are going to fucking hate you if it works well again.

    I eagerly await results though.

I'm in limbus (kings path) right now and my ranged attacks are only doing 10-15 less per shot with ebow while i stand in melee range and swing away with ridill. Using couerl subs as well and I haven't missed a sidewinder yet in +50str and only racc i'm wearing is scouts belt, seiryu kote, and gorget.

edit: using kabura arrow too because i don't have a PPA at the moment.

Exactly. Its been beaten to death elsewhere, but Bow with Sidewinder and Ebow in particular have enough going for em that they'll do as much if not more on WS than Gun.

The only thing this update changed for Bow Rangers is the ability to melee (especially with TP spam type weapons) and still WS at close range, where Gun Rangers indisputably had the edge after the nerf.

All that's really left of the nerf it seems is a very small accuracy/damage penalty based on range and the .025 level correction to pDIF, which as someone else mentioned, was largely offset by the increasing popularity of RNG/WAR.

RNG/WAR will probably still be the sub of choice for HNMs where you're only using ranged attacks for TP and damage, but it looks like RNG/NIN spamming with Kclub/Ridill/M.Kris will be good times again in places like Dynamis/Limbus/Merits.

Even before this update i was always going /nin dual wielding krieg and francisca and using O.bow in merit pts. With red curry and 292 marksmanship skill i have never seen a war/nin (i'm taking the war/nin example because it looks like we are in a FFXI war/nin ONRY period and other DDs are lol<insertDDjobhere>, not talking about ridill war, give me a ridill and we'll compare) outparse me. I was just meleing all the time and moving back only for slug or barrage (of course i used regular ranged attacks even when meleing ). Let's not talk about those hellfire+1 or e.bow rngs who just stand at sweet spot and are happy because they do a big slugwinder, the difference on parse with those is ridiculous, i'm like 10% ahead. That's why i don't understand why people are like, ooooh rng can melee again! The only way to do good DoT in TP burn merit even before this patch was /nin and meleing. I don't want to bring back the E.bow vs O.bow thing but imo E.bow is good for HNMs but can't compete against O.bow in merit, especially in TP burn areas.
This patch, by lowering the ranged dmg difference when being in melee range will just "open the eyes" of the rangers who didn't understand yet that meleing was still the way to go, i think now we could even slug and barrage from melee range the difference won't be that high. I think with this patch we could even parse the same dmg or close as a good mnk, which is the only job i have never been able to outparse. About subjob, /war is good for screenshots and e-peen but the extra damage from berserk and DA doesn't compensate the lost of constant axe swings. Don't take me wrong though, /war is still the way to go imo against big things like Kirin or Gods but in merit your DoT will be too low and the mages will have to use all your mps trying to keep you alive when you will throw your big slugwinder and won't have shadows to protect you.
Eh i had promised myself to not post on these forums but i just couldn't stand anymore the lolrng comments and this update is a good opportunity to say what i think. So i posted this for all the rngs who used to stand at sweet spot and do nothing but hiting their ranged attack macro. I have seen so many wars saying in /p lolrng when i get invited to a merit pt because they have merited with a rng who doesn't know his job before, weird how after some fights and parsing their smile suddenly vanishes.

What is a RNG/NIN using axe/ridill and slug shot but a WAR/NIN using axe/ridill and doing rampage lol.

I had been going all haste gear, /nin, melee/gun recently & like the results, will be fun to be able to do it with bow as well now.

Axe/Axe War/Nin is the most overrated DD in the game, and most 75 WARs on Pandy suck and use shit like Woodsville and Af1 feet. I know Drk/Wars who can outparser Axe/Axe WARs. Its nothing new dude.

Go against a BB Mnk/Nin or a pimped out Nin and see how you do. War/Nin w/o Ridill is shit in the grand scheme of things.
