yep thats why i think that in those areas a rng/nin using axe/ridill now is not going to be the same as a war/nin with dual axe doing rampage necessarily. i wont know for sure till i see some parser results.

nonolepyro when it comes down to it, the DoT from Obow vs the Spike from Ebow vs the Mellee damage from Hellfire all basically parse the same. The reason rngs use EBow is A) Its more fun, B) Its way better for end game, and C) You can 1 shot the annoying Imp that amnesia'd your PT to keep the chain alive. The only way for a weapon to jump ahead if with multi hits or with Relics.
I suppose on the opposite side of the spectrum the mods for side tend to make ebow a better choice when stacked up with such archery skill. Ultimatly it becomes a matter of choice. It's really situational. If you're in a merit pt with a two Ridill Wars, and you've a Ridill yourself, then obow acid proc would show much better results than ebow. Whereas against Fafnir and such, Ebow outshines them all.
Edit: I can't spell Ridill.
personally i have never picked up an e-bow and because i have lvl 75 thf as well i will probably put merits into marksmanship instead of archery so i will stick with gun or o-bow. i really like my o-bow with a good +mnd setup for merit parties and holy bolt spamming the dmg can really add up.
MND set on RNG can be fun, especially sub whm in Temenos @_@ If you get the chance, deck out in MND gear and just pop a sushi to use with Machine Crossbow in Temenos.
RNG worth lotting Ridill now? because if he does then meh...
Rng was basically always worth lotting ridill, there was just not enough of em for anyone to speak up about it.
I personally still would give it to a WAR first, just saying if it works that RNG will use it as another arguement to get Ridill over other people.
Because outparsing a job that gets absolutely no offensive benefit from subbing NIN is a good indicator of e-peen.Go against a BB Mnk/Nin
maybe im wrong but i think he was saying mnk/nin still gonna outparse ya. cause i know i still outparse about everyone i pt with as mnk/nin.Originally Posted by Ayn

w/ soulvoice 2x Minuet, did an 1809 barrage, 1816 slugshot.
w/ 2x minuet did a 1195 Heavy.
w/ no minuet did a 985 barrage, 957 slug.
All point blank, meleeing.
Was Axe/Ridill, just wanted to test it out. Parser showed my normal melee hits to be a bit over 80% accurate, which isn't bad with 240 axe and 226 sword skill.
I haven't played RNG in a while, but being able to do a 1195 Heavy from point blank w/ just normal minuets seemed pretty pre-nerf to me. Granted, I was fighting flying, but it still seemed almost back to normal. FINALLY I CAN PLAY RNG AGAIN WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT DISTANCE AND WITHOUT RUINING THE PARTY BY MAKING THE MOB RUN AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE GROUP YAY.
RNG was always a melee job even post "nerf."
Quote taken from a friend who was the only ranger I ever respected DD wise after the update. (was the only RNG i saw parse 29-30% on decorative weapons whereas other RNGs I pted with could barely break 15%)
This guy doesn't play anymore and quit before ToAU came out, due to RL issues, but he nailed it right on the money. It's not even that hard to see that RNGs need to be getting to 100TP asap when they can pull off 2k+ slug shots in the mire.Yes your right I did melee in XP to do better DOT. I think thats what always gave me the big numbers and let me out dmg EVERY RNG I XPed with after the nerf, before the nerf it was just whoever had the best gear combo and shot the fastest.
Basically this was my train of thought. WS, WS, WS. It was all about WS dmg for me that took me over the top. Stay in melee range and gain that TP, then back up into the sweet spot land a nice WS. My parses were 75% WS dmg and 25% melee/regular shots.
I think this is what the rng nerf was meant to accomplish. Before, RNGs would land melee hits almost equal dmg as any other melee, land regular range attacks for 100-300, and then land all that with better accuracy cause of the accuracy traits, then land a outrageous WS all at melee rng.
After the nerf at melee range RNGs are hitting with the same accuracy with melee and range attacks but now their range attacks are about half the dmg at melee rng which puts them on par with every other DD out there. If you just sit at the sweet spot range, sure your hitting for normal range attack dmg but now your acc is cut almost in half and your tp is slow as balls, not worth the big numbers for me, stick with DOT it payed off for me.
I hope this increases silver bullet sales...
I need to finish this dagger.
Just got finished with Dynamis Jeuno with some test results. Sub nin kreigs fran and 292 marks was doing the following:
average WS with obow: 1590 at distance 6.3, 1320 at distance 1.8 (meele distance). Meele hits were about 75-80% accurate, granted you would miss THFs alot more, and ranged from 40-90.
HF+1: hit average came to 207 at distance 1.8, crits in the 220's and on PLDs and such, some hit as low as 160. Average WS was around 1400 at 1.8, and closer to 1750 at 6.2.
Granted, I always had at least one to two acids on with obow, explaining the high slugs.
People pretty much in agreement that this is as close to pre-nerf RNG as anyone could've hoped for?
I'm bringing an arrowburn (lol arrowburn) up to sky (lol sky arrowburn) before my LS does Kirin tomorrow ... guess we'll find out if it's anything like it was pre-patch.
Does anyone have info about the ranged adjustment in regards to Corsair dmg? Is it as signifigant? details pls /``/
God I hope my Kriegsbeil goes back up in price.
We gave a ridill today [he got it because he diserves it not because of his job] to a RNG. I have to say its really intertaining to watch. Offhanding a merc kris = fun to watch. He can pump out a huge damage slugshot every 5 seconds >.>; WUTS UP DAMN NEAR PRENURF RNG!
This makes me happy to hear.
I've been doing the axes/gun/nin thing on rng for awhile in merits. I don't think it outparsed my rng/war w/ ebow, but it was just more convenient for the average xp party. I've got some nice rng melee gear as well- pln body, pcc, brutal earring, suppanomimi, wahlara, etc. The acc traits rng has compensates for lower axe/sword/dagger skill so eating meat is fine for most camps.
Being able to chill in melee range with an Obow is very very nice- cheap ammo and acid bolts ftw. I'll have to check out Ebow up close too. I levelled rng entirely post nerf, so meleeing with my Ebow equipped is something I've never had a good reason to do. Also the idea of using Ebow on fafnir is kinda cool. I've never actually fought Faf on rng (I almost always end up in aery on pld/nin) but the few times I've camped on rng I was ready with my HF+1.
