they've always kind of left the box a little bit, the older icons are still up on zam/somepage/wiki
The details on the leggings are more noticeable than the other changes.
Any SS's?
Noticed this, thought I might have been goin crazy, they look smoothed out and lighter.Originally Posted by zhan
Feels like half of the icons were changed to be a little bolder/bigger. Seems rather sporadic, my Aegishjalmr isn't changed but looking at the AH the other Adaman style pieces look different. Maybe I'm just tripping out.
Maybe someone had the bright idea to email SE and tell them to think outside the box when designing patches and this is the result.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

SH+1 now looks more like the NQ with a white border.. just more faded out it seems.
Actually went back and looked at some before and after pics, looks like the changes were more drastic than I thought. The slight difference in color from the before/after is from not having to crank my gamma up to get good contrast (got a new video card).

Those change deserve a big wtf. I mean, why would anyone change unique icon to another unique design? It's so pointless
The new icons look leagues better in high resolution. Maybe they want to please their xbox customers?Originally Posted by Kaylia
Besides, why not? There some reason you prefer the 'skinnier' icons?
I noticed that the new 3rd Eye icon looks far sharper than other status icons. I think they are spending a (little) bit of effort making icons look better on the platforms that have higher res.
Its also very easy for them to make changes to the overlay icons (2D) and in all probability, some of the icons were rushed or just weren't given much attention. This is most noticeable imo on AF1 and AF2, although they cleaned up the AF2 icons a good deal. If you look at some of the AF1 icons though, they're really poor quality compared to some of the more ornate icons from the same period. Look at something like Haubergeon, Adaberk, or Kbody compared to Nin Tekko/Body and you can really see the difference.
The Overlay (2D) resolution for platforms shouldn't be an issue unless you're on PS2. PC has always been able to match your desktop resolution at 4:3 or 16:9, FFXI Config just locks your background resolution (3D) to a shitty 512x512 or 1024x1024 "box". I'm not sure what Xbox360 runs at for 2D and 3D, but from some of the screens I've seen, it appears to be higher than 1024x1024.
There's a pretty simple registry edit that you can make on PC to make FFXI look much better, assuming your system can support it w/out too much performance hit. Basically you can increase the resolution AND run it at your monitor's native aspect resolution, which drastically improves 3D image quality. The difference is most profound on LCDs where running native resolution means 1 hardware pixel = 1 3D pixel.
Anyways, its probably old news for people here, but its definitely something worth looking into doing for people who don't know about it. Honestly, it makes FFXI look like a new game. Whoever designed the 3D engine did a great job of making the graphics quality scalable since the game still looks great 5 years later, a particularly amazing feat considering FFXI is a PS2 port.
During the XBLive Maintenance, I hooked up my PC to my TV (Sony 43" HD WS LCD Projection). XB appeared to have a higher resolution or at least equal to 1024x1024 with a higher resolution overlay. But XB doesn't handle the overlay well and it ends up slowing down the system notibly. (i.e. take off all overlay VIA the select button and FPS increases signifigantly.)Originally Posted by chiz
Anyone notice wording changed on party invites? or am I just stupid?
Before it would say "XXX invites you to his/her party"
Now it seems to just say "a" party.
Anyone?
