I lead 18 people into tavnazia last night, for the first time. Thanks to this thread, we were able to get 1.5 hours in the zone, though we ended up with 4 diaboloses and wiped

Still, I want to thank you guys for detailed information that allowed us to be so successful.

And, let me contribute a bit. I posted a very detailed analysis of the tavnazia run on my LJ http://aurik-ffxi.livejournal.com/18942.html

Here's the most relevant bits for this thread.

Dynamis Tavnazia consists of the following nightmare mobs:

    1 Nightmare Bugard
    5 Nightmare Worms
    4 Nightmare Antlions
    48 Nightmare Hornets
    40 Nightmare Leeches
    40 Nightmare Makara
    30 Nightmare Taurus
    42 Nightmare Cluster

Now we know where the 1 Nightmare Bugard is. It's my theory that in any given Tavnazia instance, only 1 of the 5 worms and 1 of the 4 antlions pop...the reason there are multiple is so that the place where these mobs are "hiding" varies from run to run. (A similar mechanic is seen in Dynamis-Bubu and Dynamis-Qufim, where the subjob ??? appears in many places; there are ??? entries in the dats for EACH spot where the SJs can be reactivated, and only one is active on any given run)

    http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4855/tavwormro5.png
I'm not sure the *exact* position of the worm from tonight -- was too busy fighting it, lol! -- but this is reasonably close. If anyone can add to this image, please do :D We have 3 more locations to mark. I'll correct it from tonight if someone comes up with screenshots from tonight's run that shows my memory faulty.

    http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/3415/tavantmq4.png
Similarly, here is where the antlion popped for us tonight.

There are 48 hornets. Each parent hornet spawns 2 children. Thus, we can conclude there are 16 parents. There are 4 hallways (2 on each floor), each containing 2 hornets. Furthermore, triggering the 30 minute extension ??? on a given floor pops another 2 hornets. So, 2 floors * 2 halls * 2 hornets * 2 waves (normal and repop) = 16 total hornet parents. Therefore we have accounted for all of them.

    http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3138/tavmobs1tb1.png
Nightmare Makara/Leech/Clusters: The Makara spawn on the 2nd floor. Here's 4 of the "parents". They all roam in orthogonal lines. No idea where the clusters/leeches spawn,

Nightmare Taurus pop off of eyes in the 3rd floor. I'll get to that.

There are 3 instances of "???" in the zone. One is for the "win", dropped by defeating the boss. The other 2 are 30 minute extensions. They pop in the hall between "AH" and "moogles".

    2nd floor eyes:
There are 15 eyes in the dats that pop 2nd-floor mobs. 8 are initially "up"
    http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/5...ydraok0qz4.jpg

HS1: EYE + rdm blm whm
HS2: EYE + war sam thf mnk
HS4: EYE + drg smn bst -- eye death triggers the pop of a ??? between HS4 and HN4.
HN4: EYE + brd sam mnk nin

    Projected:
HN1: EYE + war rdm rng
HN2: EYE + drk bst smn
HN3: EYE + whm blm thf pld drg
HS3: EYE + pld drk brd rng nin

When the ??? is triggered, 2 hornets pop in each hallway and new eyes spawn. There is at LEAST an eye at HS1's position (HS1r) and HS2's (HS2r) from what I saw. There are 8 eyes unaccounted for, so I'm assuming that these eyes are repops. For reference, here's their contents, in dat order:

EYE + mnk pld rng smn
EYE + war whm rdm thf
    EYE + blm drk nin
EYE + bst brd sam drg

HS1r: EYE + mnk whm brd nin
HS0r: EYE + blm rng smn
EYE + war pld drk sam
EYE + rdm thf bst drg

    3rd floor mobs:
    http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/3...dredlg4oj4.jpg

KS1: EYE + blm smn pld brd
    KS3: EYE + taurus x3
KS4: EYE + whm thf sam bst
KS6: EYE + rdm drk rng

    Guesses:
KN1: EYE + taurus war thf
KN3: EYE + taurus blm bst nin
KN4: EYE + taurus mnk whm
KN6: EYE + taurus pld drk smn
KN2: EYE + taurus rng sam
KN5: EYE + taurus rdm brd drg
KS2: EYE + war nin drg
KS5: EYE + taurus taurus taurus mnk

This prediction notices a few patterns:
    6 tauruses on S, 6 tauruses on N, total of 12.
1 taurus on each pull on N.
Also, dat ordering suggests this solution.

There are 12 eyes not accounted for, these are likely repops.
    "North side" repops:
    KN1r? EYE + taurus x2 war thf
KN3r? EYE + taurus x2 blm bst nin
    KN2? EYE + taurus x2 rng sam
    KN4r? EYE + taurus x2 mnk whm
KN6r? EYE + taurus x2 pld drk smn
KN5? EYE + taurus x2 rdm brd drg

    "South side" repops:
    KS1r? EYE + taurus x3
KS3r? EYE + bst drg smn
KS2r? EYE + war whm brd rng
    KS4r? EYE + taurus blm
KS6r? EYE + taurus thf sam
KS5r? EYE + taurus mnk rdm pld drk nin

6 repop taurus on the south side, 12 on the north, total of 18 repop, for a combined total of 30.

A couple things. One is that in the .dat files for Qufim and Buburimu there are only 2 ???s, one for subjobs and one for win. No clue why it works one way with the ???s there and a different way with the worm and antlion. The other thing is that from the best that I can tell, every eye will repop except for the one that triggered the ???, and an additional eye will pop between the two hornets on that side. So, basically, each hydra half has 4 eyes, each kindred half has 6 eyes, and it's the same when they repop except one eye pops in a different location.

To my knowledge, this is right. Other DB members that read this forum can correct me, but I believe there are also Nightmare Worm spawns at each of the tunnel entrances leading to the AH and Nomad Moogle areas (NW and SW). The Nightmare Antlion can also spawn immediately to the left of the ramp leading to the third floor (although I'm not sure if this is the spot that you have marked).

To avoid too much damage from Draw In > Tremors from the Nightmare Worm, we disband our alliance so that only one party is taken in on the initial draw in. This worked originally, then was changed to not work in an update afterwards, but seems to have been changed back (recently?) so that it is a viable strategy again.

It is very, very important that if you are drawn in that you don't panic and run immediately before figuring out where you are, because if the Nightmare Worm is at one of the tunnel entrances, you can very easily aggro Nightmare Hornets, making it a much more complicated fight.

The Nightmare Worm can also be slept, but I'm not sure about the duration.

I believe (but will have to check for supporting information) that Nightmare Leeches are on the second floor in the waterway areas on the opposite side of the Nightmare Makara, while Nightmare Clusters are on the third floor in the sublevel areas.

I will update some of our incorrect posted information regarding enemy specials based on your Livejournal entry, thank you. I still have some backlog on feedback we've received on the Diabloses' behaviors to update as well.

We ran into the antlion immediately to the left of the ramp (the ramp is at the north). I may have the position slightly wrong, I was too busy dying to take a good SS. Hopefully someone in the group took a ss of the fight and I can recover our exact position from that.

If there are 4 positions, maybe the pattern is northeast southeast southwest northwest? Next time we go, we're going to sacrifice the mnk (me) to it instead of a paladin, that initial WS is insane.

As for the worm, the position marked is close to where we were fighting, but I will try to recover the exact position from screenshots. We've also (in a previous "hey let's enter tavnazia with 8" run) popped the worm right at the altar. So we've located 4 spawns: south, southwest, northwest, and west. The maybe the 5th is due north?

To avoid too much damage from Draw In > Tremors from the Nightmare Worm, we disband our alliance so that only one party is taken in on the initial draw in. Our strategy, which did work, was to set up a BLM stun order. The blm on stun has to be VERY fast immediately after the draw-in. Aside from immediately after draw-in, I didn't see it use any TP moves at all.

We did Tavnazia last Wednesday, and intended to test my theory that you could pop the 30 min time extension twice on the same floor. After farming the north-path Kindred and hitting the 30 min ???, we went to the south side, and there were 4 big-bees up (indicating double pops, 12 bees total pop in that tunnel), and that agrees with your double-eye observations.

Seems that my theory is a bust, however after we killed 6 of the bees, we went down to the Hydra floor, low on time because we had some mistakes earlier in the run. Killed the 6 south bees and sac pulled the HS4 eye and killed it, without touching any other 2nd floor eye or Hydra and got the ???, which I believe is the smallest number of mobs people have killed so far to get the ??? to pop on a given floor.

Yea you can definitely get to the trigger eye very easily on the hydra floor.

On the Kindred floor, if you take the north side, you can pull the trigger without linking KN4...it's not that hard. In this screenshot which is me immediately after getting the 3rd floor extension, you can clearly see the 2 eyes (KN4 and KN4r) which haven't been popped.

For my group, I think we prefer the north path on the 3rd floor. 1 Taurus per pull is better than 3 at once.

You can trigger the ??? on each floor without aggro, but you have to be at practically the maximum distance, or the oppposite trigger eye will detect you. I used that trick to explore the 3rd floor repop to see what they contained, before HPing and re-entering the zone.

    http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/3...sciencepg2.png
If you zoom in on my mob radar, you definitely get the feeling that there are 2 eyes at Prishe's door.

So basically every eye repops except the trigger eye, which repops in the tunnel.

    Further investigation on Nightmare mobs...

    40 Nightmare Leeches
We definitely saw these on the "HN" downward ramp
    40 Nightmare Makara
We definitely saw these on the "HS" downward ramp

Given that the parents all pop the same number of babies...we can factor 40 into its prime components...2^3*5. So maybe there are 8 spawns, each popping 5 total? I can't see one popping more than 5, and there isn't that much room for more than 8 spawns.

The alternative is that the ??? repops the parents, which means we have to account for 20...5 spawns of 4 each, or 4 spawns of 5 each would satisfy that.

Next time we do the zone I may suicide-pop one to get data.

    42 Nightmare Cluster
The factors of this one is 7*3*2. There are definitely less spawns because of the room taken up by KN/S2. My guess is that each pops 2 babies, there are 7 spawns, and the ??? repops a layer.

It's harder to suicide pop these because of KN/S3 I'll see if I can anyway next time we go.

As for the "double-up" of the 30 minute extension...what nobody has shown yet is whether killing HN4 (trigger) and HS4 (trigger) will pop the ??? twice. We now know that either one of these eyes dying will make the ??? spawn. What if you were to kill the other eye afterwards? Depending on time remaining, I may try this out next time--pull and kill HN1/HN2/HN4 completely. Sac pull HS4 by having a thf run past the ??? into south area then towards the altar while puller pulls the eye north the north end of bridge. Doomed monk (me) pops the ???. Main team kills the eye. Does the ??? repop a second time?

We killed the North and South triggers eyes on the Hydra floor 2 runs ago.. no such luck on popping it twice.

Farming the south kindred section last run, we linked a nightmare cluster after hitting the kindred ??? and doubling the mobs, making pulls that much riskier. We only linked one set, the southmost cluster; it popped 2 more clusters, like most nightmare mobs. (Watch out for self-destructs, lol) So before hitting a respective ??? on that floor, you have 7 pulls of 3 clusters, most likely.

We hermes-quencher-explored the lower section of the hydra floor one run, and I was pretty sure they ran pretty deep, almost all the way to the bridge on each side, near the NPC you trade for Mistmelts. The ??? on each floor definately doubles the nightmare mobs too, so you only have 20 present at the start. (We killed all 20 leeches pre-??? on one run; I don't recall exactly, but I'm 80%~ sure it was 5 spawns of 4. Their attack down is awful.. have a respectable BLM crew for these)

Well, since you've posted that you've killed the trigger eye before without popping the ??? because there were bees still up, it's possible that the requirement for the ??? is bees from that side + trigger eye, in which case the only way to be completely thorough about testing if it can be popped on one floor twice would be to kill all 12 bees that are up in a floor at the start + both trigger eyes. However, the fact that they double-up makes it seem very unlikely to me at this point that it would be possible. And even if it is possible, it really wouldn't help that much, because you don't save that much time doing say north bees > south bees > south kindred > south trigger ??? > north trigger ???, as you would doing say lvl 2 bees > lvl 2 ??? > lvl 3 farming (triggering the ??? about 85 min into the run), plus you'd have to repop the 3rd floor earlier than you otherwise would have, thereby contending with more doubleups towards the end of the run.

I have trouble believing the hornets matter for the ???.

It's hard to convince people not to go after the megaboss even with 3 popped, especially when its so new to everyone, and that cost us 15 minutes or so. Despite that, we still were easily able to get both time extensions.

We have a blm heavy group with 1 melee/tank party. What we ended up doing was letting the melee take out the last (and least dangerous) of each pull--dark knight, ranger, samurai, etc, while the blms recovered mp.

Yeah we kinda "wasted" like 6 of our 8 first Tavnazia runs with Diabolos card kills/attempts. It wasn't until people were finally satisfied (or not) with that before we could venture into the rest of the zone more in-depth. As for the double ??? on a single floor, including hornets, we can probably test that next run as we should've had enough time to completely clear both sides on the 3rd floor (not counting clusters) if we don't make any mistakes that cost time, but I just don't have the confidence in SE to make Tav have 3 hours.

    sorry for the semi necro

ive read your live journal entries and this thread a couple times to get an idea of what to expect for tav

im going to lead a run after xmas when our LS is ready for it

we've spent alot of time farming cop zones and got the majority of our members clear on all 3 with only a few straglers

my only question is this: you mention skillchains and blm nukes on the SJ NM's, you've said blizz/darkness/dist SC for all the encounters. Would Frag/thunder have the same effect or is blizz perferred due to elemental weakness of the mobs?

    thx in advance

TBH we're going just full manaburn next time we go (Friday)...drop the melees and stick in BLMs. Setting up a SC is nice and all, but doesn't add much--only the worm will be harder with less melee.

we aren't as BLM heavy as we used to be, i think the best we will be able to pull of for our first tav will be about 8-10 blm at the very most. not to mention alot of our melee's will be angered at not being able to go the first couple times

id like to think we will be able to easily kill the NM's then explore from there

You'll be fine going as a meleeburn as well. It just happens that we're already heavily a manaburn setup, and adding a few melees to SC for burst doesn't add as much as, say, another 2 blms.

I wonder if farming to and killing the stationary clusters (and by analogy the leeches/pugils on the 2nd floor) in the middle can trigger a copy of the ???. Having the ???s poppable from Nightmare mobs is the only way I can think of to allow for substantial Nightmare (non-Taurus) farming without repop double-ups.
