lol@This thread.
While immigration is a big problem (Hell my mother and father are[were] illegal immigrants), I don't think this is the topic at hand.
The problem here, is that his daughter is being exposed to a different culture, through television. Gone are the days of Rugrats, Doug, Eureeka's Castle...we are now in the era of Dora the Explorer. HOLA! Like stated before, if you have such a problem with the show and the fact that they are speaking Spanish(oh and English too right?) then don't let her watch it.
Personally I see nothing wrong with injecting a bilingual character, as the main character in a kids television show. It's healthy to expose them to something other than the Step by Step/Full House type of shows.
Amen, and hooray for living in California, we get the brunt of this bullshit.Originally Posted by Demosthenes11

Yes, I consider being able to communicate with 95% of the other people in a country a vital part of being a citizen. ESPECIALLY when you're working service jobs.
From what I understand from that show, it's designed to educate, using Spanish words to identify things or something. However I don't know of any other show like it, have her watch other shows on that network too. Very invaluable to children as far as educational material is concerned.Originally Posted by Jerseyprophet

Disgusting how foolish and ignorant some people are. But I suppose I'm human and guilty of similar "crimes."
Either way, we're all going to die. Who gives a fuck.
Probably skipped my post, but it's not just Dora. A lot of the children's shows are starting to put that in. Sesame Street is one of the few long-lasting great shows that teaches kids, and they're even doing it.Originally Posted by Pro
I agree with one of the above posters, I think if my kid watches TV, they'll watch reruns of the older episodes.
What's so wrong about the new shows? Kind of sad the point of views some of you have taken.
It's just that television is trying to step up and assist in teaching bilinguality to American youths since, overall, the States are really bad at that. Proud, American parents are letting their kids watch whatever the hell is on the television and then getting offended and assume the Spanish are taking over our glorious country when their children repeat the foreign words they hear. YEAH BUT WE SHOULD GO DOWN SPEAKING ENGLISH, AMIRITEOriginally Posted by Zanz L. Barre The 3rd
you took the words out of my mouth! i cannot believe some of the things i am reading in this thread. i am white my mother speaks spanish she spoke spanish and english to me as i was growing up. she tried to teach them both to me simultaniously unfortunatly school did not reinforce this so i was not able to pick up spanish but now i heavily regret it. there is nothing negative about learning 2 languages.Originally Posted by Zanz L. just because kids learn spanish and english at the same time does not mean they are dammaged or will have issues. a kid learning 2 languages at the same time shows some form of intelligence. it makes me sad that parents today are so blinded by hate that they dont see that their kid is just being smart and actually learning something from these tv shows.
maybe if you limit how much tv they watch and actually take the time to teach your children then you wouldnt have to worry about spanish "taking over" and they could simply be learning to speak english and spanish.
my older sister speaks french swedish and spanish and is a spanish teacher at a high school and her kids are learning to speak spanish and it makes me so proud how smart they are and how they can pick up both languages. (english and spanish)
I think its kind of silly to get mad about kids learning Spanish.
I would want my daughter to know as many languages as she could.
It sucks that I can't go to McDonalds and order a #2 with a dr. pepper without getting a something random with a pepsi so I just don't go to mcdonalds.
Anyone who doesn't speak or read English in America is extreamly limited to what they can achive and will forever be poverty striken.. the people that come here understand that when they come here.
It is very difficult to learn a second language as an adult and these immagrants know how shitty it will be in America and yet they come here anyway. Life in poverty in America is pretty damn good and in many ways better than being royality during the dark ages.
These people have children who become American Citizens for being born here and go to public school with other children who speak English. It is very easy for children to learn new languages and these immigrant children have a strong work ethic and have very good chances to finish high school.
It is easy to get mad and just expect them to "learn English" especially when you're young but to me thats just as unrealistic as looking at all the fat people in America and expect them to "loose weight". Its mostly the same thing because a lot of immigrants do learn English and find it pretty easy and there are many who are simple not capable of doing it.
It is easy to tell them to just "go back to Mexico", but that would make them bad parents. If you have the opporonity or chance to make a better life for your children you'll do it with or without the approval of a few white people.
You need to chill out dude. I can't possibly see how your daughter learning a single word in spanish should make you angry. Your reading way to far into things. FYI America was founded by Immigrants, not everyone came here knowing english. English IS the dominant language and always will be, for many, many, many generations people from other cultures, and countries came here speaking their native tongue, by the time the third generation of their family comes around they will all just be speaking english, it's just how it works. America is a country founded by immigrants and what makes it great is that it is a collection of all the worlds cultures THAT'S WHAT AMERICA IS.

Because for most companies it's in their best interest to cater to prospective customers than be "fuck you, engrish ONRY!"--- a company that makes the customer feel welcomed is more likely to get repeat business from that customer which = more $.Originally Posted by Fuuko

Sesame Street indirectly implies and teaches life of the ghetto and put how to spell and do math infront of it (which is awesome) and you worry about just another language?
Least your kid said something proper (although in another language).
I remember the Teletubbies telling kids that tubbytoast and tubbycustard was a good thing to say...
yeah there are alot worse things that the kid could be learning or saying.
I am offended. In an age of increasing globalization, where it is becoming commonplace to deal with people from countries other than our own, these people have the nerve to try and force this down the throats of our youth. How dare they attempt to implant such heinous knowledge during the time it is most easily absorbed! Who are they to chain America's children to the television set and beam this propaganda into their minds against our knowledge? I refuse to let the facts dissaude me! This must be stopped!
