I just read the whole thread at work, and I mostly agree with the OPs POV.

1. It bothers me when immigrants from Mexico come to the USA and speak ZERO English. You are coming to MY country; learn to adapt. It's the same thing as if I were to go to Japan. Japanese is thier language, and it's not up to them to learn English(even though many do). It's my responsibility as an immigrant to learn Japanese.

2. I am quite sure 99% of the Mexican immigrants are good people, and hard workers; Most can speak enough English to get by.

3. English should be the official language of the USA; Most other countries have one. People that say it's wrong or racist are just uneducated.


Someone posted that this is a video game website, however this portion is for General Discussion.

Having young adults debate current issues in a rational way, wether here or anywhere else, is what this country was founded on- Free debate and speech. If you cannot see the other person's POV and try to understand that person (even though you disagree), then you have no reason just to flame him/her and call them "wrong."

It is nothing to fear about television program to teach some new language vocabulary. It won't able to that the culture dominant others culture. If it do, I think the japanese and korea culture will dominant the whole asia now.

I just curious, if OP can accept any television program that in other language show on TV program and will the OP watch it if it is with subtitle? This might able to show up the reason i think?



and....talk about learn new language for children, it is really good if children learn a few different language when they are small. In my language class, it is easy to see that we whole able to speak like 3-5 type of language, able to learn a new language easier and faster than others.

This is so dumb...

Far and away the best time to learn a language is when you're very young, how you could be against your child being bilingual is beyond me.

You're gonna find yourself telling her not to hang around with such and such kids for racist reasons someday, and I sure hope you realize it and catch yourself when you do.

im not going to read 11 pages to see if someone already have said this but..

english is forced in other societies or countries, since its the most widley spoken language, i can accept that and i appreciate it because without it, i am not going to be at the same state that i am at right now..

i strongly agree with countries that have 1 major language and a secondry one, and if america would take spanish as a second language to be taught in schools it will make things much easier for the next generation...

our families have once thought the same thing jersey has mentioned, they were stuborn about their childern learning the language of the invaders(britian in our case), but look where it has lead us..

we became a major international business country that is recognized around the world because of our capability of speaking a second language..

looking at countries such as japan and america, in my opinion, both of those countries lack the teaching of a mandtory second language, and from my studies in lingustics, it has proven a fact that people that come from those countries have a hard time learning a second or a third language..

I have met Japanese and americans, that have a very hard time picking another language, and it would take them an extremely long period of time to have the ability to learn..

In my opinion, the more languages a kid learn in their childhood, the better future they are more likely to achieve, from too many diffrent views..

what has been said is simply my opinion and I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say..
