It could be a %improvement rather than %increase -- multiplicative instead of additive. If my guess about stretching the window is correct, that would increase the front/back from 20% to ~40%, still leaving a 20% spot in the middle where a hit would interrupt. It could also be capped (40-50% would be a guess there), which would put the maximum front/back at about 30%.

Uh, yes. You pretty much have to be tanking something and timing casts to the blows to wedge a cast between or there would be no point in wearing %interrupt gear. PLD or maybe RDM solo or sleeping dynamis.

I played with %interrupt gear myself a bit and came to the same conclusion as Alistaire -- it sure isn't an additive increase. A BLM friend of mine did a similar test as Alistaire's; he tried tanking stuff in sea wearing a great deal of %interrupt and parsed it. I don't recall the numbers, but I do recall his colorfully expressed digust with the effect or rather lack of effect.

Prett sure interrupts and other damage reduction and haste type percentages in this game do something like...

    Biggest % = 20 for instance..

    20% of 100 = 20...

    new number is 80..

    Next % = 10..

    10% of 80 is 8..

    New number is 72..

So yeah usually stuff like this has diminshing returns..

For a grand total of -108% spell interrupt. -113% with the af+1

I think we can safely and sanely deduce that a whm/nin in this gear running around (and not ending up at the spot he started casting) is still going to get interrupted.

So it's definitely not a straight 0-100% scale.
Or perhaps like Haste and damage % reduction there is a cap for spell interruption down as well...

I rarely get hit on BST, and if I'm lolmeleeWHMing I sub /nin for dual-wield anyways - So I don't really know. And I can't test it well myself because of a gimpy Shield skill and I will get 2 shotted by anything significant.
In my career as a PLD, I haven't really noticed shield blocking to have any effect on spell int. rate whatsoever. I've tested it with both buckler and tower types, and the results show similar results. skill seems to play heavily into determining weather or not your spell will get interrupted, I.E healing magic on PLD is more likley to be interrupted than divine due to its lower skill cap. Granted flash's signifigantly lower cast time also gives divine the edge here.

    Just wanted to add this...

I merited -Spell inter. To the max (-8%), There are times that I notice it, mostly /nin. But If you are doing this for tanking reasons.. scratch that if you even consider to merit this.

    Do -Enemy Crit

I am planning to remove all my merits and do that

-4% on Enemy crit rate, that chances are is only 10-15% to begin (base enemy crit rate) with is FAR better than, what I think is -4% on each side of the "bell curve" of spell inter.

    Edit: My grammar is horrible...

No matter how evil SE is, the cap has to be at least 25%, I don't think they would make single items that have 25% on it if the cap was 8%...

    The cap is not 8%, You can notice a diffrence when stacking the effects.. But to be honest there are better peices of gear you could be wearing in most of the slots.. or merits for that matter. Maybe when you cast Ichi/Ni you can macro a willpower torque. Otherwise {No, Thanks.}

I didn't feel like reading through 4 pages of this thread because I'm in a hurry to get food, but I am going to respond to a theory stated on page 1 which isn't true:

You can move around and still cast as long as you go back to the same spot because the game checks for start/end position rather than position/time. This isn't true, I've seen a video of a tarutaru using pos.exe to cast stone on an IT rabbit and just teleport around while casting the spell to avoid being hit. He also rested while pos.exe around so that he could regain MP. So that theory is debunked.

I've actually seen someone running in circles not be interrupted. It wasn't with a spell, though. He was testing his x-potion macro before a BC. He ran in circles to keep it from using up the item and hit his macro. Soandso uses an X-potion (while running) .. then it actually used up the potion. IIRC, he was back near the start spot when it happened. It was pretty damn funny.

I dunno, most of the times I block while casting, I don't get interuppted (Solo RDM in this situation).

Teleport+spellcast I believe, if you're in same spot it'll go off. Teleport+med I don't believe, does it not check if you've moved? Can anyone confirm?
