My comment on the thread that spawned this one was to try meleeing with the light staff and landing a spirit taker here and there.

Some of your figures are off, which is odd since its mostly copied from that post.

Staff + Hospitaler Earing is 15%

V Cloak/Parade/Auto Refresh/Sanction don't add +4 hmp. Depending on how you figure it, they're either 3.333 each, or not included(Since they're included as refresh.

Its obviously situational, but I think an interesting idea.

No, Yobun said just a light staff, and I used Apollo's.

As for the auto regens not being part of the HMP equation, I realized it after, but didn't bother fixing it. >.>

Edit: "Some of your figures are off, which is odd since its mostly copied from that post. "

All of it is copied, except for a few things I changed. (Like Apollo's)

I'm fairly sure it's not because of refresh, but because of convert.

Edit: But realize, I said this would be but a last resort. (Above SMN)
PLD get a mini convert every 15 min from Chivalry, if you have a SAM that can toss you some TP even better.

Still not an ideal setup, but in a complete pinch it may work.

Apollo's gives +15%, as opposed to Light that gives +10%.

    Apollo's

    Light's

Somepage says damage, but it applies to cures also.

Apollo's Staff does not have more cure potency than a Light Staff.

Light spell potency != Cure potency.

What he said. The 15% would apply on other things like Banish, Holy, Charm, Lullaby... The cure potency isn't caused by the elemental property of the staves but it's just written on it as an effect.

It's really splitting hairs anyhow. 5% isn't make or break.

I think we've established, not a bad idea in the right situation in a pinch.

I would think Templar mace would be better for PLD curing, as it allows you to keep a shield equiped.

I like this thread, with luck it will produce a lot of interesting combos to try out with friends.

How about Rdm/War as a viable tank?

Stoneskin, Phalanx, Protect+Shell IV, Ice Spikes, Defender and Tacos could do well. Especially if you add in a Genbu Shield and Jelly Ring for added -Dmg Taken %

I've tried this in Assault and it worked well on Gurfufu-whatever, tanked him 20Min or so, but needed to keep up all the buffs constantly.

I also tanked a Skillup pt on Stellshells with the same setup, even though we had 3 PLD there [I wanted to cap Shield]. My friend commented that I took less overall Dmg than a PLD would have, however I had to use my Mp to heal myself exclusively.
I also had to switch to Joy-Toy from trying to cap Dagger, the Double Attack helps build up hate a lot better than any other single-hit weapon could.

The problem is that in such an instance the RDM works as a solo unit in the pt.
I.e. he can't afford to spend his Mp on other pt members, so the main heal would need a different source of refresh, or you could get lucky and all the -Dmg taken gear+Spells could end up saving Mp as far as healing the RDM goes. [RDM takes care of himself, the WHM takes care of the rest of them.]

Other problems include keeping hate against other DDs, without a Thf or /thf to plant hate; it's difficult to keep hate from other pt members without having to spam spells, Mp that you could end up needing later.

    Any ideas? Comments?

I've heard people on this forum mention using RDM/WAR tanks in the past, and I've also witnessed RDM/NIN tank various HNMs.

I prefer /war to /nin on my RDM for Solo, I'd rather Defender+SS+Phalanx and get hit in the face than re-cast Utsusemi every 4 Seconds. RDM isn't exactly a great evader.

How would /nin work on HNM though?
I get the Fast Cast+Haste=Shadows always ready but getting/keeping hate would be a chore without someone to plant it on you. Not to mention you risk spending more time casting Utsusemi than doing anything to raise your Hate levels.

if you had a taru PLD/WHM then yeah, they could be a main healer.

that Light Obi increases the Cure% too(lol lightsday) but everything helps.

How much MP would a taru PLD/WHM in that gear setup in 1st post would have? around 500?

    It can work.

Doesn't have to be a Taru, with all the HP PLD get one could always stack a bunch of HP -> MP gear. Rings, Belt, Earrings and what-not.

We use RDM/NIN to tank Proto-Ultima, works extremely well. Let us get away from 18-man zombie fests to very clean 12-13 man kills with minimal deaths (mostly just from Armor Buster).

We haven't really needed to use PLD/WHM as main healer on HNMs/Sky/Sea although we did use a PLD/WHM as main healer in a merit PT so he could leech some EXP to hit 75.

Also, we use PLD/RDM on JoL, even though the fight is lol, it works incredibly well and really cuts down on the amount of healing/support needed. Just stack up on +enmity, keep Stoneskin/Blink/Phalanx up and spam Flash. Fast Cast for Flash timers, MDB from RDM sub, Sleep/Bind/Blind for extra hate at minimal MP cost and its really a nice change of pace. You can even cast the elemental Barspell in a pinch.

The RDM I saw stocked up on enmity gear with /NIN (dual wielding macahuitl-whatever +1s for the enmity) as well as Eris'+1, Sattva Ring, Harmonia's Torque, and a crapton of Haste/Fast Cast gear. He kept hate through melee and enfeebles (including sleep on HNMs that you don't sleep anyway, like Aspidochelone).
