With all this hacking, 3rd party programs, windowers etc. and SE banning people, (not saying parser is 3rd party which it probably isn't), I was just asking, don't need to get so defensive over a simple question, but if someone wants to use it more power to them, but from what I see it's just used to OMG me e-penis grows by this much.Gee, because it provides you with concrete results on YOUR OWN damage, so you can tweak gear sets and play sytles and see how things work out?? It's not just used for comparing yourself to other people....lot's of folks on these forums don't even parse the rest of the party members, just themselves.
How else can you tell that spending xxx gil on that uber item was worth it or if you should sell it back?
The only explanation is that your power level must have been over nine thousand.
First of all, thank you Tazzy for updating FFXIP, i was lost in a few merit PTs without it.
Just wanted to let you know he EXP/HR caculation is messed up on the new version, was listing about 90k/hr last night for me. Could be just me but it might be a bug if you're interested.
The parser that Taz has posted doesn't even need to run on the same computer that you're running ffxi on. It just needs to know where the files are. E.g. you mount the disk that the log files are on remotely, and you can run the parser from a 2nd computer.
If you really wanted to you could make one for linux that operates the same way. Just use samba to mount the windows disks on the linux box.
People are right to be worried about parsers though, there was a rash of people getting their accounts stolen a while back due to a tainted parser. Since they are external programs, you can configure your firewall not to allow them to access the internet. That provides some degree of protection.
My comments about the parser being broken b/c the guy with the Ridill 'lost' the parse were intended as sarcasm. For all the hype that weapon gets, and as much as it boosts warriors, it doesn't automatically make you win any parse.
Tazzy is a legit player on Kujata, she is not creating any hacking programs to steal items/accounst etc. She was the leader of a very prominent linkshell for a {long time} No worries, try the parser.Originally Posted by Dbill
I and many others have used it as a guide on what gear provides the best results (it's important to me not to suck at my jobs), it's one of the only semi-reliable ways that FF players can judge the effects of different equipment choices on their job's performance other than doing something incredibly mindless/time-consuming like going through the log and adding it all up manually.Originally Posted by Dbill
If there was never a FF parser program I'm almost certain a lot of the gear choices today would be much more inefficient. More melee TPing in STR gear, less melee using Haste gear, more BLMs stacking MAB gear instead of elemental skill on higher level HNMs, more SMN sitting in the out PT, more PLDs and NINs giving up every piece for DEF/VIT gear that caps off, more melee that think eating sushi past 70 is worthless in all situations, and that eating meat with +10 acc in gear is the way to go, etc.
In a way I think the parser sort of revolutionized a lot of gear choices for some jobs... While stuff like xxx headpiece vs xxx headpiece will be nearly impossible to accurately parse a difference, stuff like balancing food choices with the amount of acc/attack/haste equipment you wear for different situations is pretty big.
Of course, some people use it just for what you said; epeen. Only as a method of bragging about their 1337 damage. But, just because some people use it for that purpose doesn't mean everyone does, just like all Americans don't put ketchup on everything they eat (in other words, stereotypes aren't accurate).
I used str rings to melee in (flame+rajas) when I was dualaxe with full merits, I ate sushi and my acc was perfect
though I suppose its all based on what the player puts into it
Well, first I was being very general... But when I made the comment about meleeing in STR I was more meaning to get across doing it with 60% accuracy or something (aka the old-fashioned meat+STR builds, which wouldn't be what you're doing anyway). Or in better words, thinking that hitting hard 50% of the time is better than hitting softer (? or something lol) 90% of the time, which used to be a popular train of thought a year or two ago (and still is now for some).
In addition, people used to think that STR was > attack for melee damage... If you wanted to hit hard, you would wear STR gear. Which is another false assumption proved wrong.

For those not getting this particular bit of hilarity.
It's so funny, I'm not sure if my body can take it.Originally Posted by draxyl
Palin, ya there are still a few bugs in the parser from the oct update. I've been working as fast as possible to get them all taken care of. Hopefully by sometime next week i can get another bug release uploaded for everyone.Originally Posted by Palin
For RKenshin, no insults taken. I am very aware how scared people are of having their accounts hacked because of 3rd party programs. That is kinda why when I took over the parser I removed all online functions. I would never want my account hacked and to do that to someone else is lower than low.
I never thought I could laugh more than the first clip. Holy crap.Originally Posted by -Omni
I would use a parser from Tazzy waaaaaaaaaaaaay before I would have ever used one of Xtek's vana sigs, and amazingly apparently no one got their accounts stolen from that.
It isn't like code that runs things such as parsers is that complicated, difficult, or groundbreaking.
I think if the author isn't willing to release the code they are a crook unless I am convinced by serious evidence otherwise.
Furthermore, don't be convinced in the slightest that something is clean because a virus scan says so.
Very true... this is why I just run my own, command line parser written in perl that outputs to a text file. Simple, efficient and easy.Originally Posted by Devek
I struggle enough combating all of the damn Microsoft error messages, I couldn't make my own parser if 99% of it was done for me.
Probably because of the inevitable XP party on crabs with their STR down move which noticeably hurts damage.Originally Posted by RKenshin
