Change the X=/Y= resolution in the .ini file in Windower, and then the "Misc. 2" setting screen in FFXI to adjust the aspect ratio to 16:10. All you need is Windower, the rest is built into the game already.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus

Oooh gotcha...I was thinking way too hard![]()
I forget what its like to play games on a 4:3 monitor until I see screenshots of other peoples. Particularly with an alliance, feels so cramped.
I hate dell, but damn if this doesnt tempt me

Can someone explain if there is a difference between changing the aspect ratio via the in game menu > config > misc 2 > aspect ratio, and doing the change with windower files?
Yes.Originally Posted by Jg
Doing it in the game does nothing at all, and just changing the windower file will make for a distorted look.
Changing in the windower changes the physical size of the window, you could ask it to run in whatever resolution you want, and the screen will load up that size.
Changing the stuff in the menu changes the ratio, so if you are playing at 1280:800, it is a 16:10 ratio, so you dont get squashed looking characters.
You gotta change them both to widescreen format.
Thanks wafik, I'll try it when I get home. I play on a standard 19" CRT 4:3 aspec monitor, but dont use windower at full screen. My windower resolution is 4:3 and when I changed the ratio via in game menu from 4:3 to 16:9, I get some more viewing screen but things do get distorted/squished. I can't wait to try it out.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
that's a good display, i used FF on it's older brother (2005fpw) before switching to the 2405 (which I feel is a bit much)Originally Posted by Sonomaa

EDIT: Woo, going to KI myself here... my normal Windower reso is 1024x768 (desktop 1280x1024), changing it to widescreen would be what numbers?
EDIT2: Did the Excel thing... got a list of numbers, just not sure on which one to use. 1280x800 would take up the entire width of my screen, but I guess that's what I need to sacrifice for faking widescreen?
I'm not following, primarily because I'm terrible at math. I play at 1280X1024. If I want to emulate 16:10 I set my resolution in windower at what now? Someone wanna short bus this for me, please?
1280x800 would be widescreen
Epical, I do the exact same thing as you, 1280x1024, and play as 1024x768, well, not anymore! :D
Alright then... going to try it now.
EDIT: Omfg I can see! Really hating only the bottom portion of my screen showing tho. =\ Oh well, the widescreen makes up for it.

its really nice but there was a reason i played in full screen =/
Thats why i loved playing on my 360 version on my widescreen hdtv... great... now i need a widescreen moniter.
THANKS ALOT
this rocks, i really am gonna need a new moniter
Bought a 20.1" widescreen LCD monitor a week ago (to replace a dying 20" CRT) and now I play in 16:10. I like it a lot. Went from 1200x900 to 1680x1050 (1680x1020 ingame because I like seeing the taskbar at the bottom) and I'm not turning back.

Thumbnailed so people won't complain about table breaking. Oh, and the picture is just a random one I took while doing Sergeant promotion quest because the NPC was wearing lold.feet.
How come your fonts and arrows look different than mine? It looks newer, and where did that black panel come from?Originally Posted by Rasengan
