I just want to point out that bard cannot use a hierarch belt, that you counted it twice, and that desert rope is better anyway since it gives +60 mp. Also for a max mp neck, wouldn't rep. gold medal be best?

    And beaten lol

My brother did that with his Galka PLD, when he still played. He had a set of 3 macros to gradually swap the AF and VIT stuff back in to replace the MP gear, so he started the fight with at least twice his base MP, and just swapped as he burned it curing/flashing. This was just exp, as he only ever got to 63, but...well, that's the sort of level range addressed in the OP. He had 2 macros to put all the MP stuff back in and /heal.

As a WHM in parties, though...the only time I have full MP is when I recast buffs and reraise, and tell my party I'm going afk for a drink.

Max HP isn't really worth meritting, or getting gear for. Max HP only matters... when you're at max HP.

Max MP has done more for me than Max HP ever has.

And if you really are getting hit down to < 100 HP more often than you've ever been down to < 100 MP (not that it has to happen often, but try to count the number of times each has happened), then something is wrong.

Crawd is a brd but it's more like 600 lol

My advice, as an elvaan smn, would be to start out with all your mp stuff, and just make a macro to switch it all out at once when you pass a certain point in your mp. Works well for me.

Except having 0 MP (or some unusable amount) isnt nearly as bad as having 0 HP. They're both gewd.

Having 0 MP can be just as bad. Only, instead of you dying, its someone else.

Then that person should have merited HP.

    CIRCULAR LOGIC PEOPLES.

Also having 0 HP means you cant use your MP. Not visa versa though. Theres benefits to both, people. If shit happens HP is better, if shit doesnt happen MP is better.

...I fail to see the "circle" in that "logic". The people you're responsible for keeping alive should merit HP in case you run out of MP because you decided to merit HP?

As if that would even save them, when you're out of MP?

...yeah I kind of missed something at first. Its late. Please forgive me. But my point remains that even on WHM you can't always cast enough and if you're dead you can't use that extra w/e MP but if you are alive you can recover the MP.

Sorry for chiming in, but if a brd is healing in a party, something is VERY VERY awry. +skill benefits a party more than +mp. As a /whm if you can toss out a few erases and poisonas, it's better than basically trying to main heal. Even then, I'm seriously considering going fulltime /nin since the damn shadows from Utsu: Ni are 500x more reliable than blink+stoneskin and takes less time to cast.

I'm a Galka with WHM and BRD at 75. When I was levelling up in the 50s on WHM, I gradually switched full RSE for full AF as I levelled up, mostly for aesthetic purposes. I like the look of the full RSE set, but it is pretty horrid when you mix it with anything else.
I wore RSE2 hands and feet from 62 and onwards along with Healer's Briault and Pantaloons, swapping the AF for Blessed at 70. I used Dune Bracers all the way to 75 and only stopped using them once I upgraded the Healer's Mitts to the +1. I used Dune Sandals to 75 also, but at 75 I asked my linkshell for Zenith Pumps, mostly because I hate how the Sandals look.

After SMN, WHM is probably the least demanding mage job for a Galka in terms of equipment. As others have said, Healing Magic skill is next to worthless in terms of improving Cure Potency, and the urgency of MND in EXP is questionable. I focused mainly on +MP equipment for parties on the way to 75, but I changed my priorities around a little once I started participating in endgame activities. Things like enmity- and MND+ and trying to minimize HP- became more important to me. I have 1044 HP and 1020 MP in my normal set as /BLM now, and I haven't yet encountered a situation where the reason someone died or whatever was my (lack of) MP alone.

I levelled BRD after WHM had been at 75 for a while, and I felt that it benefited a lot from my already maxed MP+ and Enmity- merits. BRD doesn't really have many available options for lots of MP equipment until later levels; I think anything that gives +skill should be your main focus, even as Galka. I used Elder's Sandals until Dune Sandals, which remain good until 75 and beyond. I ditched Elder's Bracers and Braguette for Choral Cuffs and Cannions and wore them all the way until 75 where I upgraded them to +1s. I never did the quest for the BRD AF body and couldn't get a Minstrel's Coat to drop, so I just wore a Raven Jupon until 72 and Errant body, but the Elder's Surcoat remains a solid choice for its MP+ for a long time. For rings, I use a setup of one CHR+ ring & Tamas most of the time, using Serket & Tamas on occasions where the extra MP helps. As Galka, Desert Stone is a possible alternative over Corsette +1 in the Waist slot that gives another 40 MP with a loss of only +4 CHR, though I had sold mine by the time I levelled BRD.

*edit* for reference I am a Taru
*edit #2* iono what galka gears are

For XP parties, it is almost always +Hmp also learning who "really" needs haste when your MP is a state where you really need it... and when you can rest and when you can't. Oh, and Flash rocks.

I guess the best question is what sort of party are you joining? (NIN ? PLD? Burn? BRD? RDM?)

(in XP settings) I think the biggest damn MP saver for WHM's is a RDM that has a clue... (aka on top of para / slow / dia etc) but since it's you we are talking about I will assume the RDM has about +45234 MND and eating Goblin Mushpots to boot.. lol

For my 75 BRD, I have 1 piece of Galka only gear, the RSE2 feet. My preference for MP on BRD is about 175. I always tried to have at least that many from about lvl 50+ for xp. As for skill max it best you can and try to keep total CHR at 1/2 of skill.

Well, I am not galka, but Elvaan have a pretty bad MP pool as well.

    I carry dark staff/errant always for hmp+

Now how I gear the rest depends on what I am doing. Lately for random linkshell event type stuff, I have been subbing /NIN

    *waits for comments*

With /NIN I have +37% cure pot, which puts me at about an average cure V of 900, without any +skill or MND gear equipped.

If I am solo curing, this is a very big benefit and saves me a ton of MP. I still mange about 950 MP /NIN

Now if I am doing something where I know I have more help, I will sub /blm and use more -enmity and blessed gear.

Anyway, I believe +cure pot is probably the most significant stat if your going to actually be healing.

Cure Cast time is also a nice improvement, I fire my spells at 55% after full merits, and cure clogs. (I don't have the FC earring yet)

Either way, I don't see MND, or MP as the most important aspect. I very seldom cast an enfeebling spell, +cure pot does more then MND and works to greater effect on your smaller cure spells.

+ Healing Magic skill has pretty much been a joke... Maybe they will fix that sometime.
