Looks to me like they added mesures to better ban rmt based on who's paying for the account.
That might be a big deal on Alexander. One of our HNMLSs (if you read these boards you know which one), seems to maintain accounts for there leadership to use when their current ones get banned.

It will also prevent the level 5 anon war bot-claiming b/c the guy's main account might be targeted too.

In terms of how specific the 'waiver' is, its lack of specificity is actually to our bennifit, as we didn't write the contract, and in most juristiction (esp. common law ones, like US, Canada, UK, etc...) contracts go against the writer when there is ambiguity. As well there is the principle, that this is a contract of adhesion that also changes more or less without notice... so I think there would be some deference given. Although I admit it would be costly and difficult to show damages. (esp. since you can't really argue that you could have sold your character for xxx.xx as that is against the TOS).

This is an interresting area of law, and we will likely see people suing at some point in the future. The only case I have heard of thus far has involved 2nd Life real-estate.

All these 'waivers' are usually designed to deter the average person from suing. It is very simialr to cease and dissist letters, which may have no legal basis, but scare people into compliance.

It's not like the RMT's have an endless horde of script kiddies to shit out new programs to cheat with. You and I know the usual RMT crew is barely able to play the game, much less mess with it's codes. They use premade programs to cheat.

If you want to find a cheat program/script for FFXI, it's relatively easy- especially here in HNMLS pissing contest land. S-E's devs almost certainly have copies of all the common ones to play with and examine and figure how and check for/detect. Once there's code in FFXI to do so, it should be easier to trash RMT accounts out of hand. After all, if the computer has POShack or fleetool or whatever, S-E's code detects something fucking with the game, account gets flagged and deleted.
I solved the solution of trying to find new and updated hacks: I stopped doing HNM shit, waste of 3-9 hours a day. Instanced fights are all designed so you don't need them(if you don't suck), and the only reason to bot anything is to claim it before someone else does. After that, anything else is eyecandy (or for people that can't do math - not knowing how easy it is to calculate speed, count shadows, or use /recast). One exception to that would be the bloodpace plugin.. That should be something that should be in the game already.

The only real RMT that piss me off are the ones at ullikummi, and the ones that /sh all day trying to sell drops from al'tieu... And more so because of SE's attempts to stop them (16 hour respawn on Ullikummi reported, wtf?). Everywhere is botted back/forth by NA/JP linkshells.

well you're working with a pretty biased sample. The RMT's don't come ot BG and post about it. They just create a new account and 5 taru blm friends and powerlevel themselves back up to 75
i dunno, not only basing that on bg, mostly from my in game exp. To all the ppl that have seen "We'll look into this" when calling on RMT and nothing happening, compared to calling on an actual player and having them in jail 5 min later and suspended for 3days.

I'm not a big poster on any boards, but this is what I think SE is trying to track here.

Forget about windower. It's my belief, as all of you think, it will ruin thier player base. So that can't be it. Tracking IP's, now your on to something.

I may live to regret mentioning this, but someone has to. (Warning: I've never bought gil, nor plan to. I'm really too cheap to spend any more money on this game than I already do.) On those sites that you buy gil from, safe and secure or w/e you want to think of them. Don't you have to give them your account info? So they can log into your account to make the "transfer"? Which would make tracking an IP a logical thing to do, and yes I know saying SE did something smart isn't a cool thing to do.

So you decide to be a douche bag and buy gil. You hand them your info, credit card and place your order. Some guy in china or where ever logs into your account, makes a trade, logs off, and have a nice day sir. In doing so logs in with different IP of course. Red flag sent to SE. Strike 1. How long was account logged in for? 2 minutes. Strike 2. What was done while logged in? 1 trade. Strike 3. Now SE is getting somewhere imo. They can probably trace where these IP's are located logistically, and quite possibly if they aren't completely lazy and ignorant, start tracking down more of those gilseller "bank" characters and accounts.

Now they can see who bought the gil for one. Maybe temp ban that guy. But now they have a lead on an IP/account to keep tabs on, for randomly logging into different accounts and making trades. Now imo this leaves the general public free and clear from any harrassment, unless your said douche bag buying the gil. It would be our RMT friends who should take the beating on this one. But of course, there is a very big difference between should and is, so we will have to wait and see.

That is my two cents, hopefully explained clearly.

You don't give them your info when you buy gil.

Is there a startpol.exe or not.

startpol has been burried in ther for a very long as time and after checking, it's still there. From the name of it, I never though it would be their version of the warden.

Why would they log on your account to give you gil when it's so much easier to just go to [insert location] and accept the trade yourself? That makes no sense at all.

    lol.

startpol.exe is a program that.. check this out...

Starts playonline viewer! If the playonline viewer is already started, it makes the current version of playonline viewer come into focus.

I bet this is what is used when playonline updates itself and has to restart itself in a clean manner

Its only 192,512 bytes, I ran it through olly twice , and I don't see any signs that it has any purpose besides simply starting playonline viewer. (It is even in the utils directory)

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I am very skeptical (though admit I could be wrong) that they want to get rid of windower users. Just doesn't sound right at all. Like others said I think if anything they want to monitor to see who never does anything but farm a zone and sell items. Also which accounts are played 24/7 possibly in different locations.

But I guess we'll see in a few months who gets banned in the end.

Hmm. I was gonna say "same thing", but now that I think about it that's truer.

i'd still be wary either way, i've noticed POL starting & calling a couple of extra threads at regular intervals that are new to this update...

might want to look more into this, see if they're harmless or not, but this announcement makes me wonder...

Actually, in cases like that, the entire LS gets jailed that gets claim from that bot.

That little snippet is pretty interesting. Looks like the "my brother did it" excuse won't wash anymore. OTH, I once knew a brother pair back in EQ. They were like Jekyl & Hyde. One was a nice guy, the other was such an incredible asshole that our guild had to kick the nice brother just because sometimes the evil one would play his account.

Better hope all your FFXI playing relations are decent folk or at least don't use hacks or buy/sell gil.
