I have never believed in tiers....

I think lots of synths don't simply obey this tiering for HQ, and I have done a lot of crafting...

Ive seen some synths that have days where I won't HQ them much....for 1 example I never HQ darksteel maul on watersday gone like 0/30 in a row...but Ive pushed 50% on them many times on darksday..go figure
Even putting tiers aside, every other time Ive done them Ive gone 1/2, 2/4, 2/3. And now I decide to do a big batch and... nothing.

Uses Karakul Leather, which caps at 10. And if it was... I got insanely lucky going 2/3, 2/4 etc. Plus I remember Aurik, I think, making a batch and ending up with like 6 right after these came out.

Must just be sub par luck then going 1/12. I'm sure you will find over time the synth averages to 25% hq, tiers dont lie in the long run from my experience.

I started off 1/12 on prince slops, figured it was t1. Then saw way too many up for sale, so took another 6 and went 5/6

It's almost definitely t2. Though I've gone 3/5 t1's and seen someone do 4 prism capes in a row, so 5/6 t1 isn't impossible, just really rare.

I don't think I agree with that. I believe Hellfire is still tier1 with 100 smithing, but you need the glasses and gold adv. support. Have you been making em this way?
if you have 100 smithing you would of needed to take gold to 68 before you got smithing past 92, gotten the gold apron, then leveled smithing past 92 so you could break tier 1's on hellfires which is 89 smithing 54 gold and some ww sub that no one knows or cares about.
Hellfire +1 is Tier 1 - 60+1 gold with ADV support gold. and im 100+3 smithing. i've went 1/1 many times and almost always go 1/12 or 1/24+
I was inclined to disagree with this. However, I was testing it today (I plan to do the apron+glasses deal) while skilling my gold. I started at 88.2 Smithing with anvil/gloves/smith apron and 53.9 gold (with support).

    Results:
    8 NQ
    1 HQ
    2 Break
    0.3 Smithing skillup
    0 Goldsmithing skillup

Now ... I have had instances where I'm 0/12 on skillups for things; however, I'm inclined to believe that the cap is not actually 54, as somepage/ffrecipe suggest because of the lack of GS skillup

edit: I know that if you wanted to analyze this statistically, that there's not a large amount of data. However, I didn't really want to lose a lot of money synthing these. I know I got really lucky and HQed, but I'm not really sure I want to throw that money right back into the grinder considering most of my crafting luck isn't so good.

The cap is 100% LEVEL 53 GOLDSMITHING SUB. It IS posted wrong. Tier 1 when done right. Just like SH+1 is tier 2 when done right.

    If some of my shit would've sold, I woulnd't have minded trying out a few hellfire synths to see if it was tier one without needing 61 gold. I have the gold specs and all of the smithing gear, but no money to use for testing it ; ;

Theoretically, if its cap IS 53 for goldsmithing, then 60 gold sub with gold specs(+1) to have 61, and then +3 for advanced image support, would give you a skill of 64 goldsmtihing. 64 - 53 = 11, breaking the tier for gold sub. But IF it IS 54 for the sub, then you would need gold at 61 + 1 + 3.

I really want to try this out. I know there have been many tests on this subject already, but another would help ^^

Read my post above yours, then realize how stupid it is to still be questioning what gold skill it caps at.

I understand what you mean, but words are meaningless without evidence to prove them. Just because I say that I am a 10 foot tall dragon, doesn't make me one.

One person on my server that used to pump out Hellfire+1's would wear a GS apron+Shades, smithing mittens and get adv support in the goldsmithing guild and make them right there, definitely t1'able with that setup.

There is no doubt of that. The argument is as to whether the GS apron is necessary.

Based on my observation, the apron is necessary, the 2 people i've seen t1 this recipe with any regularity were wearing the apron.
If i could locate a veteran smither on this server with an underleveled goldsmithing sub, I could arrange a breaksynth test.

That was my "breaksynth test". Granted, not a huge sample size, but what size would be a reasonable size? (without losing an assload of gil)
