FMA's ending was pretty clean. It most definately wrapped up the story, it was just very bittersweet.
It's kinda sad how many people don't realize this.
Ed did what he most wanted, to make up for his sin, but it came at the cost of being parted from his brother.
From the things that went on in the series, the nature of their quest, and main theme song, Brat'ya...
You got the feeling it would turn out this way.
Incidentally, the next one to compare FMA or Bebop to Inuyasha will be shot on sight.
