Yeah, its not like people enjoy FFXI amirite? Not everyone is Flux, an addicted crybaby.
Ahh... but if you were to start over from day 1, knowing what you know now, would you do it? That's the position SE is putting themselves in with their incompetence in dealing with RMT. The people who are/were attracted to FFXI are the same people who will be attracted to their MMO sequel. I doubt that the experiences those of us who've played FFXI will be forgotten if/when SE releases its next MMO.

Unless SE shows they can get a handle on RMT in this game, I most certainly will not move on to their next one. I'd like to enjoy a game the way it was meant to be played from the designer's perspective without some jackasses finding ways of turning it into a source of income. And you know what, if that means never playing another MMO again just to avoid RMT, then so be it. There are plenty of quality single player games, or multiplayer FPS that I'll enjoy. For now, I have so much time vested in my characters that it doesn't make sense for me to abandon FFXI, not to mention that I've enough assets to level multiple jobs without really being impacted too heavily by RMT. It just frustrates and annoys me to no end that should I opt to camp an NM with a money drop, my chances of ever getting claim are minuscule thanks to the 40-80+ RMT that will be there.

Two sides of the debate seem to be betting there's a large amount of gil out of reach still, or not. While SE did nuke all that gil, I still think RMT is damming up a lot of gil still not in circulation.

When that reaches circulation, it will cause an artifical inflation, or leveling off process. However after that, the sinks that are RMT are still in effect, and will continue to cause further artifical deflation.

Two things that have me wondering though.

SE did say they have something massive coming to combat RMT. Secondly, we all know that with 500+ gilsellers running around sucking out gil from the economy and storing it where we can't reach, the sink is too large. I anticipate SE does combat these bishes again somehow. But this time rather than nuke the gil, they either create fountains or eliminate the sinks themselves.

SE simply can't allow a continuous deflation period to continue. When the sinks in game largely outweigh the fountains, that spells trouble. SE will step in again, but idk with what measure. Hopefully it'll be just to find an equalibrium while on this smaller scale of gil in the system.

Knowing what exactly? How the game is or the all the storyline and character developement? Still yes for both, but a little less likely for the latter.

There is not 1 GM on this game that can tell me they are doing their jobs.
GMs are doing their job, for the most part anyway. You simply don't understand that their job isn't what you want their job to be.

GM's arent doing their jobs, as a GM you are the police of the game, you are there to make sure the rules are followed and enforce them. I see the same people who flee hack, warp to NM's still on the game which means GM's are failing at their jobs.

Their job is answer reports (of such crimes), not patrol for them. They are not police, to say the least.

Knowing that SE, as of this date, has been unable to control RMT as evidenced by the vast numbers of them camping NMs/doing HELM activities/crafting. Maybe their presence doesn't bother you? I know everyone isn't annoyed by them, so if that's the case then /shrug. Personally I'm not going to put up with RMT in another MMO, let alone one published by someone like SE if they're unable to control it in their current release.

RMT are annoying, but that is it. The only time they have ever been a real problem for me (and many others) is at Ulli, but if you have a BRD and they slip up(which they WILL), it's nothing. Like SE says, RMT really are only other players in this game, so they are not invincble(just don't sleep). The craft bots concern more than anything else, but it's hardly a problem otherwise.

If RMT bothers you so much, why are even posting here. I'm sure a lot of people have RMTed here, on both ends. Personally, I have not(my gear for the pass 4 years agrees) and I think its wrong, but I'm not zealous about it.

Fair enough, just wanted to get an idea of where some people's attitudes are where this is concerned.

I post because it's end-game, which I enjoy. I get a lot of useful info here just like everyone else that visits. My level of zealousness has diminished a lot since I've found that the majority of people are apathetic toward RMT, and there's even a substantially large number of non-RMT players who regularly team up with RMT to get loot. Kind of takes the wind out of the sails, so to speak, when people do things like that. CGF still annoy the crap out of me though, and probably always will.

if i knew before i started the game that SE Devs have no concept of endgame progression i probably would not have started playing at all.

it's certainly going to be a factor in whether or not i'll play another SE MMO again but whether or not i want to play ANY MMOs after FFXI is a huge question with many influencing factors already.

the RMT part of it is just a minor annoyance.

Nice, but wrong. GM's are customer service. They can do the jailing and such, but it's higher powers that wield the banstick. While they're at it, they also have to be taking care of the legit players who honestly need a hand. Like it or not, the endgame people < total playerbase, and nothing gives them any special priority on getting shit taken care of.

It's like expecting the security guy to jump over the counter to gun down a gang of terrorists shooting up your local Wal-Mart. He's not equipped to do it.

They do have limited powers, but honestly I think their hands are tied up tighter than a bad bondage video. A real RMT/cheat hunting team has to be 1) Visible when needed to cause notice, invisible when not and 2) Devoted specifically to hunting RMT and cheaters alone. Not only should they be devoted to hunting down cheaters, they should scare the shit out of people when doing so.

Fear will keep people in line. Little else would.

I'm interested in what level of technical expertise the RMT hitsquad has and what oversight mechanisms are in place to maintain the honesty of the gm staff as well as the dev team.

When I worked at a certain game company that did online games, we had internal corruption on several levels, some GM's were abusing their powers for sexual favors from a few players that lived in the area. There was also termination of a dev team member that had coded a few secret crafting recipes that turned several worthless items into valuable ones.
There was also a special gm account that could that could do a number of things without being logged by the server.

SE's planned RMT countermeasures can easily fail to expose corruption within their own company ranks if they are relying on the honesty of logs provided by someone that has the ability to falsify them.
I think the stakes are high enough financially for someone like IGE to pay an admin/dev team member thousands of dollars to protect certain accounts or do 'favors' to facilitate RMT activity or create short term gil exploits (hi2u a database mistake in the buy/sell prices).

Personally, I wouldn't be supprised If this happened, and I might have evidence to prove It.

GM Gludd, was by far one of the best GMs period. For anyone who has instances with him, you would know this guy actually spotted RMT If you got him to answer your call. Don't know where He is now though... point is that, If he could spot RMT easily and ban/suspened/jail them, why can't the other GMs...

Well he wears cement shoes now. He spotted to many RMT and IGE put a price on his head.
