    Interior Design!

I talked to the people at lowes about this, but it's pretty much just a bunch of kids who don't know a whole lot about the design aspect. Im remodeling my kitchen. Currently, it looks like this, minus all the plants, those are gone.

The counter tops are green, and we were wanting to paint the walls like this: The burgandy and tan will go with the green tops amirite? My mommy didnt offer much advice on this >.> It sure will be christmasy.

Aside from that, heres the big question...As you can see, the floors are really cheap linolium(sp?). Were gonna get wood laminate put in, but our cabinets are oak colored as you can see. We was wanting to go with a darker colored floor, maybe a brazilian cherry. That is pretty dark, compared to our lighter coloered oak cabinets...i figured it would look better to off-set the light-medium cabinets with a darker floor. Sound right?

Aren't there people at hardware stores who specialize in this sort of consulting? For free?

Went to lowes (And home depot, but they didnt have shit), and the dude was like "i don't know, id need to see the cabinets". Can't really bring a cabinet, or a door into lowes. Well, i guess i could. It's really hard to describe things to people without showing them. The pics are saved on my PC. Ive checked all the about sites on this, couldnt really come across anything that answered my questions. Figured someone here had to have been through an interior decorating class sometime.

Floor is an odd color though, I'd love to see it with a darker, marble color to match the counters and wood.

Not gay, just bought a house recently and this shit is interesting to me now lol ^^

The dark floor with those cabinets should look alright, they are a tough color to really play on. However, you're going from a red wall to a redish colored floor, and that could turn bad. Find a less red-ish wood, (even though i like the wood) or try for a different colored wall. The green counter tops are nice, and shouldnt need to change as they can go with a large variety of colors. Yes, it will look christmas-like, and you might get tired of that after a while.

My advice would be to try a different color than the burgandy, or a different wood floor. Both are really really nice by themselves, but since you are two toning the walls and are using the amount of coloration you are using elsewhere, it can end up really throwing it off and clashing.

Have any more images or colors you've been tossing around in your head that you can throw up here or into a PM? I'd happy to try and help.

You have a nice kitchen, except the flooring and those ugly rugs. I dunno if you're just changing for change's sake, because I can't imagine you increasing the value by changing to an odd color scheme like you're contemplating. Then again, I'm not much of one for deviating away from white/off-white style kitchens, so I'm probably not going to be a good person to listen to.

That's the kitchen before the person before us moved out. All those plants and rugs and shit are gone. AS far as market value goes, the crazy paint schemes are huge sellers. I probably looked at 30 houses, and you would be absolutely shocked how much a good paint job ups a price over a house that has all white walls. Example, i looked at 2 houses, both in the same neighborhood...both jagoe homes and the layout was 100% identical. One had completely white walls, asking price was 65,000. 2 houses down, and across the street, same house, only difference was a fence, and the house didnt have a single white wall. Tan living room, green kitchen, dark green bedroom, lavender bathroom...$78,000 asking price. A little imagination goes a long way, not to mention i bought the house in a low market, so i don't expect to lose anything.

As far as the guy who was talking about the cherry floors clashng wtih the burgandy paint, i absolutely hafta agree. That never even crossed my mind. Its gonna be incredibly difficult to balance a dark wook floor with burgandy paint and light oak cabinets. The kitchen has a lot of room to play with, about 300sq FT of empty room. Heres the rest of the layout, ill entertain just about any thoughts or ideas. This is my first house so i'm a little more apt to have some fun.

@Jersey. lol, its fucking amazing, you buy a house and you become addicted to shitty shows like "flip this house" and HGTV becomes religion.

Shows how much I know about interior decorating. I'll just stick to MIG welding, shooting animals, and clubbing chicks over the head with a giant femur.

if you really want a professional to do it dont talk to the people inside the store. we have no knowledge except what we pick up except from hearing from vendors or what the classes on the computer had. if you want a real opinion on what would be good or what it may look like at the home depot i know for sure.(used to work there)

just call the number for a free in home consult or sign up in any store. they go over with their color books and samples of diffrent options and they can help you choose what is better. main diffrence between those guys and the in store guys? they are professionals. home depot doesnt really train too many people to do diffrent things like all the options we offer such as windows, roofing, solar panels, design. we look for good companys and buy them out, slightly change the image of what they wear and send them out with the people who call or sign up in store for a consult.

green countertops make it hard to match, if you're keeping them and matching to the green try a variation of the tan with a goldish embellishment in it or you're gonna end up with a very dreary kitchen anytime other than like 10am-3pm in the summer (sun lol)

What price? I paid 200,000 for mine, and it's a steal. You wont pay less than 300,000 for anything worth buying in southern Jersey.

Funny thing is, assholes will pay MORE to live on top of their neighbor and I got a cheaper house for over an acre of land, 3 car garage (my recording studio) and a 4 bedroom Victorian house because it's in the middle of farms and woods. That's a bonus in my eyes!

And you're right, Tyche, I do love watching those shows now ^^.

I LOVE the italian theme you have going in your dining room.

    Lemme show you mine:

Two of these pics are not my house, just the design I want to use, my inspiration.

Holy shit @ the stripper pole. That house is cool as fuck lol. As far as housing prices, i live in Kentucky. A very rural part of kentucky, and the standard of living is pretty low. Fuck, i remember losing a bet to a friend in LS, and i had to call him in a medium pizza (he lives in cali), and the motherfucker was $15. You can get 2 large pizza's for $15 here. $200,000 will get you an almost brand new 3-4 bedroom 2 bath house in the nicest subdivisions. I paid 80,000 for mine, its a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath, but not located in a subdivision, and needed some paint/flooring. I really wasn't aware that you could call someone for an in-home consultation. I know lowes sometimes does these special DIY in-store things as well. I might check into having someone come in and look at it. I just don't want to pay someone a lot of damn money to come in and tell me that i need to spend a lot of damn money.

Today, we had our bedroom painted. It took like a week to convince my fiancee to paint it brown. She called me today while i was at work freaking out because they had just finished the first coat and it looked like shit. I told her to calm down and let em finish. I think it turned out pretty good >.> Paint's still wet, and the moulding needs to be trimmed.

    1. Yes, but not immediatly. Currently working on three rooms and not focusing on details til a bit later.

    2. No, it's a granite style laminate. Don't plan on going granite either, that shit is extremely expensive.

Look at the price. Welcome to NJ ^^
