XP was extremlly bugged when it first came out, and at the time my windows 98 was completly stable.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
Same thing with Vista, im in no dire need to switch my OS, its working fine, and for what I do with my personal computer, I dont need Vista.
Ill let everyone else find the bugs and work out the problems, and maybe when SP1 comes out and my comp starts to get slower and slower, I may switch.
There are so many stupid things that arnt working with Vista atm: Nortan, McAfee, some printers and there are a few network things that arnt working properly, just to name a few. Lets not forget tons of other applications not working as well.
I will switch to Vista, just not anytime soon, I can wait untill the bugs are out.
I personally have no reason to switch to Vista anytime soon either, I'm fine with my OS the way it is, and I'll go by my if it aint broke, dont fix it policy.
No matter how you slice it, you're paying Microsoft money to have a slower computer that doesn't do anything it did before Vista.
We have a vista machine at work, and the min requirements for it is 2 gigs of ram and anyone that tells you otherwise is full of shit. Some of that is because of debugging and blah blah crap, but I seriously doubt at release it will run with less than a gig. Sure, a gig of ram is cheap and yada yada.. but thats a gig of ram used up before you ran any applications which is the point of having a computer in the first place.
All of the new security features including the driver signing have already been broken multiple times. The only way to make Windows more secure is to make it smaller and more simple.
Did you know windows 2000 uses less than 100 megs of ram on a default install(and fully patched) and it can be seriously trimmed down?
I have it running fine on a Dimension 2400 with 512.
Im running vista on my spare drive. Right now its pretty much pointless b/c you can't really run anything.
I can't even install my ethernet driver.
It's going to be like XP when it came out, buggy buggy buggy.
you guys have really bad luck imho. I installed Vista on my laptop yesterday to try it out (the latest RC2 5840 build) and it's running smooth and buttery.
Installed all the drivers etc online, it knew where to get them etc. I'm debating If i should install it on my PC :X
Do it, but you must post about everything that goes wrong so that we can lulz.Originally Posted by Zigma

You're paying for an upgrade right? It shouldn't just run almost as smooth and well as what you already have, it should be better.
Though to be honest, a fresh install of Vista may run faster than a fucked up spyware infested version of XP.. which is why I think some people think Vista isn't soo bad. Ya know though, its free to reinstall the version of windows 2000 or XP that you already have for even better performance.
fuck i need vista.Originally Posted by Devek

Meh, get an Apple. Most of those "new" features on Vista have been on Apple OS for years.
you all take me as some n00b when it comes to computards. As far as "paying" for a new OS, If you mean downloading the version that cost like $500 30 days before its official release date then yes, I will be buying it.
I like to play games :[Meh, get an Apple. Most of those "new" features on Vista have been on Apple OS for years.
Ditto, also i think i use a computer for absolutely everything that apple OS isn't good for doing.Originally Posted by Zigma
Apple thinks that to be better they have to be different, even if that difference makes them worse. Microsoft is taking good features from Apple and leaving the bad ones, which is a great play if you ask me. I mean, who the hell thinks having a one button mouse is still a good idea? No one, not even apple, so they introduce the mighty mouse... but they STILL have to be different, they can't just make a normal mouse, and it sucks. Who thinks making applications not have backgrouns by default is a good idea? Can't tell you how many times I've accidently clicked on the desktop while working in flash or photoshop and having to get back to my work because clicking on the desktop makes it the number one thing. I can bitch all day about macs because I can't stand them and I am forced to use them. They are unintuitive and poorly designed. I don;t care of they are supposed to be better for media, they are unenjoyable to use, and if I had to use one regularly I would just quit using computers.Originally Posted by dietvanillapepsi
Both OS's are good for their own purposes, thats why I have one of each ;oOriginally Posted by Almaa
Just for the sake of discussion though..
The mouse - You realize you can use any USB mouse with a mac right? Even those with *gasp* two buttons. Also, one thing about the mighty mouse that is nice is that the scroller can go in all directions, where most windows mice can only scroll up and down. On the flip side, I've tried to use a mighty mouse a couple times and the side buttons felt awkward.
App backgrounds - again this is a thing of personal preference. When I use a PC, I feel like my apps are hogging up all of my screen with their damn useless backgrounds. I never maximize apps on PC, unless its a game or movie, for this very reason. Most PC users hardly ever see or use their desktops, simply because its always covered up. On Mac your desktop is like a workspace, and I actually see/use it a lot.
Mac certainly has its flaws, but my Mac is more reliable than my XP machine no doubt about that. Which reminds me, I really wish I had just went with Win2k rather than XP when I built this machine lol...
What i find amusiing is that everyone i know that works with mac's daily like at work comes home to use a pc with windows... And every person i know that uses a pc with windows daily like at work comes home to use a... pc with windows.Originally Posted by Almaa
EDIT::
Yeah i am regretting the XP i'm using right now too and was thinking of changing it. Should i go back to 2k? I really wanna use Media center edition so i can link with my 360, anyone have MCE, use it and/or link it with their 360?Which reminds me, I really wish I had just went with Win2k rather than XP when I built this machine lol...
I have no stability issues with my WinXP PC, and almost every mac I've used has caused me trouble (stability wise).
Otherwise, I know you can hook up a normal mouse to a mac, but my point is, why should I have to. Why can't apple make a mouse that is actually good. Straight from Apple:
Why? why can't you just make two buttons? Why do you have to be different Apple? WHY? WHY DO I HAVE TO LIFT MY LEFT FINGER TO RIGHT CLICK WITH MY RIGHT FINGER?!?Capacitive sensors under Mighty Mouse’s seamless top shell detect where your fingers are and predict your clicking intentions, so you don’t need two buttons — just two fingers.
Oh yeah, and why do Apple keyboards have home and end buttons if they DON'T FUCKING WORK IN ANY APPLICATION?!?!
Vista went gold on the 9th (or 10th I forgot) and will be available in stores on Jan. It is *available* already if you know where to look.
