Halfway into the thread there's another anti-PL guy who talks about all the parties he left because a PL showed up, and how he'd suicide away exp gotten from kills that were PLed before he noticed. Because when I think good player, I think a self-righteous asshole who quits just because there's an outside healer reducing downtime and resulting in better exp.I know. Everyone and their mother is sporting a Maat's cap. Hang out in Whitegate and you can spot dozens of them; this is nothing special nowadays.
But.
- No job was PL'ed, at any level. That is, except when I was new, learning about parties, scared of leaving them, afraid of being unable to find another one, and the leader forced a PL upon me even though I disagreed. That might account for 4-5 levels total. As soon as I knew better, it stopped.
- No job was astral burned, except for a few levels of SMN. I astral burned SMN through a few painful levels when you're neither a good healer nor a good buffer nor a good DD. Everytime I could get decent exp on SMN by any other method, I did (soloing - or duoing with a BST - djinn camps, being second mage in standard parties).
- No job was synced down to ridiculous levels. I always partied within a range of 7-8 levels of my real level. Today, I still have to experience a Qufim party on a high-level job. And I don't even see the appeal of it; Qufim Island, when I was there, didn't strike me as especially good or interesting exp.
- No job was half-assed. I always brought my A-game to a party, no matter the job. I always had the best gear I could get, which was not always the absolute best but was decent at the very least. I always had a complete list of spells. I pulled as BRD/NIN from 24 on. I spent all the gil required to play the jobs as efficiently as possible: shuriken spam at low-levels of NIN, Ni ele wheel as NIN/RDM 40-50, bullet/iron bullet/steel bullet spam as COR from 22 to 70, and so on. It was expensive, but worth it.
Reading these posts makes me think it's 2004 again. Back when men were men and 5000 exp/hour was considered acceptable.
Edit: Personal favourite of mine is "Qufim doesn't seem like good exp." Bad manaburns are still 10k+/hour, with the only limiting factor being how quickly a sync outlevels its usefulness. Mindless as hell (barring shit hitting the fan I just mash alt-1-2-3-1 each mob) but it's more interesting than "traditional" exp parties, which make me want to MPK someone. But knocking something without even knowing what it is is what all the cool kids are doing.
Wow... I mean I feel bad for the guy. From the sound of he has leveled his jobs to atleast 66 in probably the shittiest way ever. Not even level syncing? Really..? Have fun seeking for hours on end for the appropriate leveled party to suit his "oh god i want to exp the "right" way". Should of put this in Random Fail were it belongs lol
That reminds me of a recent experience I had when looking for a new sync for my Colibri PT. I looked for potential syncs using my friends list and sent a tell to one of my friends asking if they wanted to XP on a LV37 class at East Ron [S]. They said they had no sync classes available at that level, but they wanted to XP with me at West Altep or Batallia Downs. According to them it's a great XP spot, but I already had a PT in East Ron, so I told them we would stay here. That led to 30min of her complaining about the PT not wanting to move even though I couldn't find a sync. I then told her I found a sync and she started getting furious with the chat (Busting out the swear words and OMAE). I offered to give her my place in the PT as compensation (???), but they insisted that I kick everyone from my PT who didn't want to go to West Altep and make a new PT (Even if the new PT would still be XPing at East Ron). So I told her I kicked them and asked her to come. In addition, I mentioned that we had a PL, which led to a series of rant about the merits of having a PL in the PT.
Her argument was that if the PL leaves, the PT is screwed, but I said I would change to WHM if that happened. Regardless, this continued for roughly 1hr (First time I've talked with a JP pissed and brave enough to throw certain words at me). It basically concluded with me asking what would she do if it were my last time on FFXI ever; her joining a LS PT; and later, so apologized. The highlight of the conversation was when she mentioned that JPs don't join PTs with PL, but then I mentioned we had two in our PT. She then said one of them is an idiot and that they're both probably "New types of Japanese" (She said this in English). Great stuff.
FUCK YA. Just got my O Kotes (Also got Sarutobis Kyahans earlier today)! This shit has been working my silly since I'm the laziest camper ever (Literally cleared the zone + came back to seeing my NM killed on multiple occasions).
No true Japanese indeed. Alternatively, she was talking about Japanese newtypes, which would be infinitely badass and I would party with them based on that alone.
Remember when they used to be considered the best players in the game?
Batallia present or past? Because there's a camp in the past which can pull in more exp than east ronf [s].
Other than that, I lol'd. And I lol'd at the Maat's Cap guy who thinks he is the ULTIMATE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD and that his cap means more than having a nice hat with +7 to all stats.
