"Check this out African child" is the most win thing ive ever read in my life
Meh, I skimmed past the beholder part.
But I really like this coherent post.
I think what people fail to see is that those that fail at a job after burning it to 85 would still fail at that job even if they had regular 2004 xp parties all the way to 85. Most of the decent players I know would have no trouble picking up any job at 85 and doing an acceptable with it, even if they had never played that job before.
This is true. Good players can pick up a job, play it for half hour and be fairly good at understanding what they should be doing.
Some things get better with practice, sure, but you can get a very good idea of what you should be doing by playing a job for 30ish minutes if you are not a idiot.

Still not sure why you think paying a small amount of money once per year to support a site i use for 5-10+ hours per day is stupid. I've got a bit of money, and nothing better to spend it on. I must be really stupid though, because i also throw some money to bg every year when they ask as well. lolme helping support the sites use every day. How silly of me.
Premium gets you fuck all really at Alla. You probably get more shit for free at FFXIAH. Time and time again they've proven they don't listen to users too. I think you're seeing that right now in the feedback thread in which you're basically bagging out the site developers and the mods in one fell swoop? Way to go getting people to listen to you by the way.
Years ago I was a pretty solid contributer to the tech support forum on that site. After being constantly shat on in that forum by one of the Asylum regulars and having a gang of greasy basement dwellers ream me out I decided that really, a lot of the people there don't deserve much help at all. I post still in the FFXI forums for a couple of reasons now a) i'm bored at work and b) i actually enjoy helping people get the most out of this XI. Honestly the database and wiki there hasn't been up to date for years (the wiki has never been current) and people rarely post anything that's useful to me on the site. So why would you pay them money if they can't even manage to maintain the most essential information for us? It would be stupid.
There, does that explain it?
Weird, i don't remember saying i was paying for the features. In fact, i believe i specifically said i pay for premium to support the site.Eh, not really. They may not care what we think about the layout, but otherwise they usually do listen. I've even exchanged several pms regarding the skin with jerek. They do listen, they just don't care what we think about the layout. I've personally gotten a smiley added, as well as several other different features. But hey, maybe they're just more willing to listen to me, because i help out so much with finding bugs (like this).Time and time again they've proven they don't listen to users too. I think you're seeing that right now in the feedback thread in which you're basically bagging out the site developers and the mods in one fell swoop? You're butthurt because one of the big bad asylumites didn't like you? Yup, explains a lot.Years ago I was a pretty solid contributer to the tech support forum on that site. No, I just saw that the contribution I was making there wasn't being appreciated, and moved on accordingly. Important to note, If I was going to be a premium member, I would have been one before then. Everything there is dating too, from the ratings system which has always been a clusterfuck, to the forum layout that hasn't changed for 6 years. I don't know where the money goes, but it sure as hell hasn't gone into improving the site or the quality of information over the years.
Money can't fix stupid though. The site itself, yes, though the interface isn't terrible (I've seen so much worse), but the quality of the information? Too much stupid on that site to really upgrade that.
The argument be made for both cases validly if you tweak your definition of good player. Consider the following scenario:
Player 1 (Competent): Starts with 9pts in "RDM skill"
Player 2 (Incompetent): Starts with 4pts in "RDM skill"
If Abyssea grants both players 0pts in "RDM skill" whereas "normal" XP conditions grant 3pts in "RDM skill", whether Abyssea made a difference will depend on what your threshold of a good player is. Are you impressed by someone who has 8pts+ in RDM skill? If so, then Abyssea wouldn't make a damn difference. Are you impressed by someone who has 7pts+ in RDM skill? If so, it indeed, would not make a difference for player 1, but it would for player 2. Are you only impressed by people that have 15pts+ in RDM skill? If so, then Abyssea wouldn't make the difference anyways (Though if you can get "skill" elsewhere, not abyssea burning would accelerate the process). One more point to note, equate skill with experience since apparently you can be blindfold + have broken arms because FFXI takes no skill.
