I don't know. If I did a thorough review of people that actually contribute verified information on Alla, I'm pretty sure it would be a very short list. Most of the people who do actually contribute things over there state it in more of a "well, this is how I do it but I'm not going to directly tell you that your idea is retarded"-kind of way, and most of the retards don't get the hint.

I got to this one a little faster, but still seem to be the only one who realizes what a gigantic time commitment and horrible reward the path he's proposing is. The first reply is, again, bullshit that gives the wrong distribution and displays a profound lack of understanding for how Double Attack works. Then people bullshit back and forth for a few posts and he takes that to mean making an OAT/OA2-3 GAxe is actually a good idea but is still undecided which one he'll pick.

Sounds about right.

To be fair, i frequently camped the forums, and would answer most questions within a minute or two, so there wasn't much need for others to do so. I'm sure others will pick up the slack more while i'm gone. The problem with them being excessively nice to the point they can't get their point across will definitely be worse now though.

I think it's more because of the community constantly bitching to the admins about nothing (including things they themselves did), and overreacting to being called silly, and the admins finally got tired of dealing with it. It's funny reading all the posts on alla lately, where half of the things i'm accused of simply aren't true, and the other half are grossly exaggerated. It also amuses the fucking hell out of me how many people (including friends, etc) say shit like "well, he knew it was against the rules, he gets what he gets", when all i did was imply that someone who sucks at ffxi sucks at ffxi. I guess i should have been more direct, since i've done that thousands of times, and never got banned for that. I mean really, if they could have at least had the courtesy of finding a thread where i actually crossed some sort of line. It's not like it would have been that hard even. Instead they picked about the only thread i didn't.

I don't even know that it's the fact that they use it for information so much as the fact that they post there about something unrelated - say, some silly bitch thread about how they got kicked from the party on their WAR for not using food - and that's when someone will come in and say that cheese sandwiches are the best food ever, anywhere. Then an argument about food breaks out (derail ftw) and people start throwing their opinions around like they're fact - and there isn't a single person who will step back (most of the time) and say, "No, shit is situational. Sometimes you'll want sushi, sometimes meat, sometimes penis." It's not that they go to the forums to seek information, per se, it's that without even asking, terrible advice gets doled out there on a regular basis.

At least that's what I remember from when I posted there back in the day.
