The similarity this bears to my own name is disturbing to a remarkable degree. I'm embarassed by proxy.
lol, I though the same thing too, Fei. I think we all have a retarded look-alike somewhere out there.

edit: Found this little post. It's about a 4 on the lolworthy scale, but it did make me go "wtf?"

I dunno if this has been asked before, but I noticed something the other day when skilling up Staff with WHM/SAM. Obviously, Hasso, ontop of my Haste spell, more swings = more skillups.

    So anyways...

I noticed that switching to a 1H weapon does not make Hasso wear off like I expected. So, I decided to try and test something, and activate the Job Ability, as normal, while wearing a 1H weapon, and got the following error:

"You cannot use this job ability while using a one-handed weapon."

Or some such. I forget exactly how it was worded. Prior to that, I thought that Hasso's Haste bonus just didn't apply if you were wearing a 1H weapon... but since they block '/ja Hasso' while you are bare-handed, or using a 1H weapon, I'm starting to wonder.

Is this a potential exploit? Or did they just block it both ways? Does using Hasso with a 2H weapon, then switching to a 1H weapon work? I don't really have a good stopwatch to test this, I figured someone surely has noticed this by now, and tested it themselves...

Well a 46 damage axe takes somewhere roughly 40 STR over the mob's VIT to cap pDIF whereas a 95 damage scythe takes +68 STR over the mob's VIT to cap pDIF. That's why you'll see a WAR hitting a Mamool for 90-120 per axe swing, and a DRK hitting for 160-180 per Scythe swing. In an ideal situation the 95d scythe should be hitting for 180-240 or effectively double the damage of the weapon thats half the damage rating,alas...

They just need to make it so that a 2 hander can reach the same pDIF a
1-hander can without needing +70 STR and 850 attack. This can be easily achieved by giving DRG and DRK an ability like Hasso or simply a job trait that increases their base STR and base ATT and decreases weapon delay(without lowering TP) while using a 2h weapon. Dual Weild with /NIN is basically +15% Haste and +50% damage. /SAM's Hasso is a lol +5acc +5STR(lol) and -10% weapon delay.

+5% damage dealt is worse than +15% attack.

+5% damage dealt means an extra 5 damage for every 100 damage dealt. So your 700 damage Guillotine will instead do 735. Whereas +15% attack could push your pDIF up a notch and you could do an extra 150-200 damage.(Only if you were right on the cusp between not conning low defense and conning low defense.)

In my opinon, Last Resort should reduce your defense to 0, but add your base defense(not counting gear, armor, food) to your base weapon damage for 30 seconds. So your base defense(which is VITx2) would be added to your weapon's damage value turning your 97 damage scythe into a 227 damage weapon for 30 seconds.(The bonus wouldn't activate on weapon skills)

STR is used to calculate fSTR, not pDIF. You do indeed need more STR for higher base damage weapons, but it's because they have a higher upper end on the fSTR scale. In fact you get a bonus, not a hinderance, in the whole fSTR calculation due to the higher weapon rank from that big 2H weapon.

pDIF is Attack vs. Defense. A 15% boost can make a big difference there.

Have him start here to learn what he's mixing up. He knows a few of the right buzzwords but doesn't know (or isn't properly typing) how they work together.

Definitely confused about what is fSTR and what is pDIF
and I don't think the reason scythe user have lower number than they'd expect is due to STR requirement/attack requirement.
It's because most melee use freaking sushi most of the time. A high base damage weapon got bigger impact when pDIF < 1.0 compared to the low damage one. But once pDIF is > 1.0, base damage weapon start to shine.
For that reason, defense down and attack up is more important to high damage weapon wielder as opposed to haste and crit+ for low damage weapon wielder.

Not a FFXI quote but I just HAD to post it here

    Hi,

I've seen a lot of my friends getting "hacked" lately. Meaning, they log on only to find that their items and/or have been stolen. Most of the time, the people simply figure that they got hacked, but it's not that simple. I talked to a friend yesterday and figured out why this is the case, since he recently got "hacked".

It is in fact not a hack that is affecting everyone, but mostly a "crack" by a cracker. The crackers are the bad guys. Everyone gets them mixed up with the good guys, the hackers. Crackers "crack" passwords. Get it? Hackers' jobs are to find the security breaches and protect companies against crackers.

Well, to my point. I wanted to warn everyone who thinks they're safe because they haven't typed in their account info on a too-good-to-be-true site. You might still be targetted and have your stuff stolen. My theory is that crackers try to crack the password of dousins, if not HUNDREDS of accounts now and then. That's right, even YOUR account, even MINE. They can easily find our login names on the sites (or otherwise) and then they use programs that runs an entire dictionary (of words) in an attempt to log in.

    This is the first problem.

Many people (not just FlyFFers) think that they are safe simply because they have a long, complicated word that not many people know how to even spell.

Anyway, if the program the cracker uses doesn't get him in, it re-runs the dictionary, this time with all kinds of number combinations following. For example, FlyFFer person A's password is "password1". This password will easily be cracked, since it's a normal word followed by a 1-digit number.
To ensure that you will be safe from these simple tools of the crackers, either change your password into a made-up word or a mix of letters, both capital and normal ones, along with numbers. You could use numbers as letters, like this: 5mi1ie5 (smilies), for example. Of course, instead of changing your password, you could make a whole new account.

Needless to say, never give out your password to anyone but a person you would definitely trust. Also, don't "log in" online to any site but the official Gala-Net, Inc. sites. and so on. Everything and anything you do recklessly with your account is your responsibility! You have been warned!

EDIT: After two replies about something I figured people would comment, I have decided to rephrase. Never give out your password to anyone unless you'd feel more sorry about the loss of the friend who stole it than your account. In other words, if the person you give the info to is worth more to you than the account itself, then....

As a white man I'm also severly offended by the extensive use of "cracker"

Everyone, meet Etherus, the latest dickhead on alla. Words cannot describe his stupidity, so I'll post what he had to say:

There is a guy on my server who buys all my food up and then resells them at sometimes 2-3x the price and the problem is that no one else can make the food at a fast enough pace to combat this guy.

Is this grounds for a GM call? I for one don't like my hard work turned meaningless by some jackass who sits at the AH and manipulates the AH price cause he's too lazy/gimp to go do it himself.
OMG guys! Buy low and selling high is illegal.

He later went on to say that he called a GM, and the GM said that this was monopolization and thus illegal. He's making a huge fuss over loosing out on 4-5k per food. Big fucking deal. The more he posted, the more retarded he looked.

I read through a little of a few of the "ZOMG BAN TP BURN" threads. They all were crying for the good ol' days before ToA "ruined the game". I guess RNGx4 BRD BRD was more acceptable than WARx3 RDM BRD BRD.

I love the irony inherent in that post. Give the jobs that need /NIN most (sup plds) a kick in the balls. A good Stone V to the face ought to teach those plds not to sub nin! Down with TP burns!
