ok I'm quoting this mostly just because the more times it appears in the thread, the more times people have the chance to laugh at it. What I find particularly hilarious and objectionable at the same time is that you insist on playing an MMO for the story. You don't play MMO's for the story. Ever. The stories are crap, they are there to provide momentary justification for doing something. If you think they are good, then I seriously question your frame of reference. How on earth can you find these trite, cliche stories interesting? More so, how on earth are you still playing this game? The stories are over. I can not imagine that you've still not completed the towm missions, Sky, sea, and TOAU by this point.

It might be time to put down the latest batch of crappy fantasy novels by hack writers or whatever erotic FFXI fanfic sites you are a regular at and pick up something by someone who could actually...write. Read some Kafka or Mailer or christ, even Stephen King can tell a good story. I don't believe anyone with any literary perspective can actually be engaged in FFXI story lines.

Hell if you think about it also... The story lines make no sense at all... really How Many time does Promathia need his ass kicked before he learns to stay down... the stories and Cut Scenes are based around your character but when you think about how many adventurer does it really take to Save the world... how many time do you have to take XXX back from the ??? before those Dumb ass Npc figure out and not let that XXX get stolen it in the first place!

Story Lines in MMORPG are more often then not Stupid, becuase they don't take into account that this damn Quest will be done by every single player in the game.

You play a MMORPG for 2 things... Community and E-Peen... the Story Lines is just a way for the game producers to try and direct the flow of the game.

Personally, I love FFXI's storyline. I think some of the people who don't like it may not fully understand it or simply not care for it (which is fine by me), BUT

Are you telling me the San d'Orian Cathedral is racist towards the Asians--er, Far Easterners!? Do you not wish to integrate each others cultures!?

Anyway, if it makes you feel any better, think of meriting and NM hunting as non-canon, so going PLD/NIN to those events means nothing towards your Elvaan's devotion to Altana.

(Hey, hey, Shijen/AV have dialogue, so technically they're sorta-storyline, right?)

EDIT: Also, don't most MMORPGs have shit storylines? Like, they make FF1's characters seem so deep. As far as I know, FFXI is one of the few to put significance towards storyline.

    Epic 'Zam Necrobumps.

Oh, there's a new one. Posted today ... June 27th.

keep it up and dont let the one true holy knight class to be corrupted by the heretic and blasphemous sorcery of the far east!

    VIVA LE CHURCH!
When his 'gonna unlock NIN' post was April 24th (and necro'd after it's April 27th death earlier today.)

i have figured out a storyline that would allow my character to unlock nin.

after the whole thing with the Zilart and Promathia, my character decided to retire from being a sandorian knight and live as a commoner. however, the kingdom retains the right to recall his service when the need arrives.

when the path to aht urgan was opened, prince trion went there and halver wanted my character to follow him. since the prince knew him, he needed to gain some stealth skill. halver sent him to norg to train as a ninja so he can follow prince trion.

after meeting prince trion / raillfal in aht urgan, the prince asked him to spy on the empire, therefore, creating the need for him to continue to utilize his ninja skill.

I guess those three leeches are kinda hard.

    Re: Alla pics!

Me not being funny still doesn't justify Family Guy... that show gone downhill so much since it came back, but forget it. I regret even saying that, because I didn't notice the post on the very top of this page. I much rather talk about that.

Hmmm, that is some quality stuff right there. What I find even odder is that you think Dynamis has a "Storyline". Well, it does, but that's not why people do it. All 9 Dynamises combined only have... 3 minutes of cutscene combined, tops. And what about Bahamut v2 or even CoP Dynamis. How exactly are you going to get access to those storylines without being in a LS that do all those "unpleasant things".

Anyway, liking a MMORPG storyline isn't stupid. Well, liking FFXI's storyline isn't. There is a lot of effort by SE in these, a lot more than what you usually get. What Nystul said is odd to me, because I think he knows a lot of BG forums enjoys the storyline and cutscenes of FFXI. This is pretty clear because every update there is a lot of chatter about quests(with crappy rewards save good cutscenes) and new storyline developments. Let's not even bring up how heated the "Vana'diel Madness" was.

What is stupid about this guy is that he only likes storyline... to a specific degree "how" he likes storyline(his whole write a storyline for jobs deal is so bad it's funny)... and how he despises everything else because "IT AINT STORYLINEZ".

As always, BRP somehow reads my mind, but then tells all of my thoughts in a somewhat meaner way. Well, maybe it wasn't meaner this time. Sidenote: In the past he has prevented me from joining because I had nothing to say in threads I was interested in (because it had already been said by others).

    Re: Alla pics!

yes, i (the player) realize how useful pld/nin can be but my elvaan character doesn't. that's the beauty of roleplaying. your character can be a totally different person than the player. what you have to remember about the elvaan in game is their one weakness: arrogance. despite their defeat at the hand of bastok in the konschtat war, they still think their way of fighting is still the best. this is a weakness and my character has this weakness.

what my character thinks about fighting techniques from other kingdoms is they're inferior to the jobs that are native to sandoria. the four jobs that have their af quests in sandoria are PLD WHM RDM and DRG and those are the main jobs that my elvaan character has leveled up.

other jobs that he has are:
brd (due to the existence of royal spearman's horn and the brd af quest somewhat involves sandoria)
    rng (royal archer longbow)
mnk (the existence of royal archer's cesti and i kinda had to for subjob when leveling WAR)
and war (i have to for pld subjob but war is kind of a "knight-like" job anyway)

my elvaan character is also biased when choosing equipment. for example, he wouldnt use conquest rewards from bastok or sandoria (he never equipped the iron musketeer armors when leveling paladin). he favors MND to INT and white magic to black magic when leveling red mage (he cast dia, slow and paralyze more often than poison, blind and gravity).

he has most sandoria quests done but he did very little bastok and windurst quests (i think only the map quests and the teleport quests. the teleport quests are actually given by sandorian priests).
