To be fair, pre-merits mnk is pretty "meh" in exp. Have yet to see one take hate often except this one JP mnk/thf and that was only after SA+Howling Fist. Though any 2h DD that isn't a complete retard takes hate pretty often...

To add to this, I asked some other linkshells. They said Homam Body is never first tier for DRK. You want a set rule, keep it the same for everyone. [Lost me at this last part. Thinking that a DRK won Homam Body. And the "make alot of people when I told them". Think he means make them mad? Apparently Homam Body dropped, but he lotted Homam feet. And since only 1 item per kill, he wasn't allowed to lot body.]

How do you like using LS funds for personal gain?

I've yet to see a tank holding decent hate and I'm a 67 mnk. A really competent PLD could do it but I haven't met one so far. It really depends of the player more than anything else.

When I was leveling MNK I didnt have any relavent merits stockpiled for it and I still pulled hate far more often that I'd like. Gear and food really makes a big difference, and I had top of the line gear and always ate food (sushi most of the time) even in Colibri camps. From 40 to 75 I met 1 NIN and 2 PLD who were capable of keeping hate off of me relatively consistently, and even then a string of (un?)lucky crits and/or double attacks near the beginning of the fight would grab hate for a good bit. I didn't go out of my way to pull hate, it's just something that happened, even when holding tp or not using berserk. To be fair though, I think the small number of tanks that were capable of holding hate consistently that i cited above is a result of both the power of a well geared MNK/WAR and also the lack of decent tanks you find in random pickup parties. I also parsed almost every xp party from 40-75 and the only DD who ever outparsed me was a MNK who was one level higher than me and similarly geared (happened 2 or 3 times) and a SAM/RNG with Soboro in the early 60's on Colibri.

2004 time warp, there's so much failure in this thread. In the entire page, the though of pld/nin was never mentioned.

My favourites...

A lot of us have experimented with this spell[Phalanx] by the use of a Red Mage subjob, and find it very enjoyable. However, the downside to this is that we have a harder time keeping hate because we do not have access to our Warrior subjob.

I'd Still like to see a Nin tank Cerberus. Think thats something reserved for Pld only.

Back when RDM got Phalanx, it was an accepted tank. RDM AF is still a subtle hint of that. RDM could still be a great blood tank, but it takes a metric ton of gil to get the gear for it. Most players aren't able to achieve a RDM blood Tank build.

Heck, even RDM blink tank builds are pretty far-fetched investment wise.

I don't even think we were meant to be a true tank class. Our defense really isn't that much greater than a dd, and we have to rely on defensive abilities just to survive now. We just evolved to it because people still viewed parties in the old everquest paradigm.

What does anyone gain from a thread like this aside from the juvenile thrill of saying "I'm so much better than that loser!" (A reaction I shouldn't hear from anyone on these boards who graduated from a 4-year college)?

I don't like to think of myself as a wet blanket with no sense of humor, but threads like the one I have linked to only makes me think the posters of Alla can do so much better. Getting cheap laughs on the internet at the expense of people you don't know is on par only with daytime talk shows and American Idol, which is about as low as one can go.
