@Kerberoz: I clicked that link but I couldn't even read it. I think this is what happens when you sign up for an Alla account:

Requirements: 1. Throw all logic and common sense out the window, you won't be needing it here.
2. Say whatever you want without regard to how stupid it will seem to other people, or how done to death it's already been.
3. "You shall have no other forum before me", and you must criticize any other forum non-stop to fit in here.
4. The mods of the Alla community are unstoppable gods of FFXI and can do no wrong, however, the mods of any other FFXI community are riddled with faults and do things for their own gain rather than the community's.

I swear 90% of the people on Alla act like at least 3 of those 4 points are the way they should behave on that forum, and then they bring that shit over here (or try to, anyway, before the elitists devour them whole).

In a more previous-post-oriented standpoint, yes, you can melee as a mage in campaign - SURPRISE! Should you be doing it in xp parties? fuck no, but campaign is a free for all... no one is really trying to accomplish anything except getting xp, and even dying doesn't hinder that very much. In fact, I hear you get a bonus for taking damage and/or dying!

Over the last few weeks, I have completely read this thread. From page 59 there on. I have seen to much Alla for one person to handle. I have read every Kenisis, Clefairy, and Goldenarms post. I have seen many alla post, and it has damaged my brain beyond repair.

To answer your first question, I got sage by at least trying to argue with some level of respect for the person I'm arguing with - and I don't make blanket statements like "No melee resistant high level mobs exist" when clearly that's not the case. And even with mobs that aren't melee resistant, often times BLM is the most effective way of taking a mob down.

Maybe we're playing a different game? From the top of my head, Tartaruga Gigante, OuryuV2 (cloud evoker fight) and Armed Gears are highly melee resistant to the point where they can't be beaten with only physical DD - and other mobs like Sarameya and Tinnin will wreck you if you melee it too much. I'm sure there's others that fit as well. Even older HNMs found in sky and sea still go down twice as fast with blms. Or do you assume that people just afk for 2 hours/call-in-the-corsairs after a zerg? Seriously - Are we talking about the same tier of HNMs?

@Kaetara - Thanks for the less ragefilled response with something to reply to other than "UR Retarded". The limiting factor on damage, BLM or SAM is enmity. That sam has to stop the damage or die, just like I do, Therefore SAM is not outdoing me in damage. In fact, because I have -enmity on some of my gear, I can probably do a bit more.

The amount of melee damage you're using in your example is the stuff of legend, saved in screenshots after using 2 hours combined with bard 2 hours. Blms, on the other hand put out the hurt without 2 hours, or flukes. Either that or you and I are talking about a different level of mob.

I'm sorry that you don't like AM2. I use it effectively a lot.

In the end as a career blm, I take my blm out to most things, kill whatever I'm after and have a blast doing it. At no time do I feel inferior to any other job out there and barring a small number of situations I'm always welcome as blm in endgame.

You heard it guys this guy can outparse the best SAM in the world because SAMs with basic haste, and 5 or 6-hit builds are totally only "things of legend" and don't exist in more than single-digits. Oh and relics are also nonexistent.

He made some valid points about certain mobs where BLM > DD. Who would bring a melee set-up to Ouryu? The times where BLM > DD are few and far between, but he was right about making a blanket statement (assuming you said DD are always superior to BLM, no matter what the physical resistance the NM/HNM has).

I'm not going to lie to you, I see the merits of a DD Pld, I believe it later on, I'll gear it later on because I love PLD.

But it sounds completely stupid.

I'm an old Pld who cameback to the game recently, around the time when Turtle PLD was still really all you needed, and now that I see the merit behind going DD about halfway through, I'd probably just turtle up again and bring STR rings for WS' to tell you the honest truth not until I had the right gear (Maybe 55+) to make optimizing for Dmg viable.

Maybe as the levels get higher, it could work out. Maybe as time goes on, it would be a legitimately good idea, but too often have I seen sh*t lowbie Pld's who probably read guides like this and don't understand where to go, and show up to Quf, Dunes, Quicksand Caves, Kuftal, or any zone on the way up to AF. With full DD gear and no skill at the job, hell one of them spammed Banish because he was under the impression that it was a good idea.

DD PLD can work, I don't doubt that. But you do what the jobs supposed to do and turtle first, then learn how to expand your horizons.

I honestly blame majority of you guys, trying to have your cake and eat it too, most of this crap comes off as elitist and up its own asscrack because they realized the obvious fact that if it ain't a viable threat you don't need a Pld all that much.

Unless you want to go the bandwagon way, and have a bunch of newbies and lurkers looking at guides that say "DD PLD IS TEH sh*t" you should teach them how to be a good Pld first, then teach em how to bring the pain.

Otherwise, you guys are missing the whole point of the Gallant Knight in White Armor, and should head to another DD class until you figure out what makes this job so special.

If I remember right, when the alla endgame forums first started the admins actually weeded out all the retarded threads. I'm guessing after the 3rd week of nothing "endgame" being posted they just gave up.

Out of the entire first page of their endgame forum, I only found 2 that would make it into advanced... only because every AV attempt gets into advanced... though a few of them would have been screamed at in standard asking it to be moved to advanced to get flamed. Like that stunning Dissipation thrad =P Seriously how dumb can you be to fail that.
