I really don't understand all the damn people in our society today who think it necessary to compare themselves to animals. There's a reason we have a complex society and are the most powerful species on the globe. If you're a religious person you believe it was (I forgot the term for something destined to you by god). If you believe in evolution then you should believe that you evolved past the point of dolphins because you're much more capable than they are. Stop having so much damn sympathy for something so damn simple compared to yourself. It's annoying having people berate the human species by showing more compassion for a damn animal than another human being. This just reminds me of that damn cat thread where the women used her heels to crush a cats skull. If you can look at that and feel bad but still look at videos of war and people killing eachother and go "lolRacism" or "lol" at it then obviously something in your logic is flawed. Accept this and move onto something else, they're fucking dolphins, it's sad but it's not like the world is ending, jesus.

It's simple. People felt terrible for the kitten because it was an innocent defenseless baby. We don't see videos of woman in heels stepping on human baby's heads, or we'd be talking about that instead. We hear about shit on the news and see explosions but we don't see people with their throats cut convulsing on the ground. You can't compare how we view each, because we DON'T see this kind of shit happen to humans. If we heard "Explosion of the coast of japan, many dolphins killed" we'd be like "Well that sucks" just like "Explosion in Baghdad, many civilians killed." we say "Well that sucks." But this is a video of cruel treatment to animals, when we see videos of humans like this(not at all as much as we do animal videos), we freak out too(hello beheading video).

We all obviously have differing opinions on animals. I've always liked dolphins, they're gentle animals, they don't hurt humans, and they're smart. You may see them as just another animal to put on your plate, but I don't.

Anyway, will you stop saying that pigs are fucking stupid? Because they're actually pretty damn intelligent, regardless of what you think about their eating habbits. They're better than dogs at tracking stuff down and smelling out drugs, but they aren't used as much due to the fact that they're harder to train because they're more independent than dogs (and let's face it...are you going to bring a pig to school or a dog to show off your prowess at detecting drugs?). Pigs are used in France to find truffles because their sense of smell is so much better than dogs it's not even funny.

Now to the crux of the matter. Dolphins are for the most part, endangered. If not for the Japanese, they would be perfectly fine. THAT'S why they shouldn't be hunted. No one needs to eat dolphin to survive, hell, it's probably not even that tasty, or at least not tasty enough to justify what they do to them. Cows and pigs and chickens are in plentiful supply, so that's why I shed no tears for them. Plus due to PETA, they're killed as painlessly as possible where as the Japanese seem to go out of their way to inflict torture on the dolphins. Plus they're pretty damn shady hunting them...I saw a picture in Maxim where they had used sonar to confuse a school of dolphins into a small fijord and closed it down and just started butchering them. The water was basically blood it was that bad. It's like veal...I don't eat veal because of the torture they inflict on the poor things. It's one thing to kill a calf and eat it, I've got no problems with that. It's an entirely different thing to strap it down over wooden slats to keep it from moving and developing muscle, deprive it of iron to keep the meat white, and force feed it for months to fatten it up and then slaughter it.

There are multiple species of dolphin. I haven't checked lately, but I would assume not all of them are endangered.

Animal intelligence can be measure by various means, although that's subjective. In any event, I don't think (opinion inc) that a more intelligent animal "deserves" to be left alone while a less intelligent animal "deserves" to be raised or hunted. Personally I don't have a problem with people hunting and eating dolphins or dogs, but I understand that many people do have a problem with it. Therefore, doing so will cause controversy, such as that in this thread.

That being said, basing the distinction between a huntable animal and a non-huntable animal on intelligence is a bit infeasable simply because measuring intelligence is so subjective. A cow can't walk backwards, a dolphin can't swim backwards, pigs aren't averse to their own excrement, and none of these are particularly indicitave of a lack of intelligence.

Basing the distinction on cuteness, as I said before, is less problematic simply because what we (in my opinion) are trying to avoid is offending the sensibilities of the majority.

You can teach a bunch of words to most animals. Monkey is the one with the best learning factor, but it's not really different than the one of any living being with a brain (us included). There is also a bunch of different monkeys species and not all are as intelligent.

And no, I wouldn't eat chimp or most "big" monkey. I won't cry if one is hunted, but considering how small is their population, there is no reason to.

In theory humans have evolved beyond the need to go out and kill certain animals especially brutally like what is shown in this video, In theory most modern people have compassion for animals, and when they see this type of shit they get pissed off or upset cause its brutal and wrong because THATS WHAT WE ARE TAUGHT.
