ok I think I'm being a bit dense or something, but whats the easiest route to get to necrohol? I've just gotten to Shrine of Miriam, and I don't quite know how to get to necrohol area yet >.>
Once you get to the gate crystal in The Salikawood, go fight King Bomb, then take the west (not north) routes and you'll run into the side of Necrohol. Of course you'll get raped as soon as you walk in any further, but that's pretty much how people get the spear at that level anyway lol I waited until mid-upper 30's so I could actually fight the mobs. Too crazy to suicide in there, goblins suck ass for it.
ok if i have to wait til I get to salikawood, then how come people are saying they're getting it as early as KRT?
You can still go through Salikawood, it's just that you'd get owned in the Necrohol.Originally Posted by Evelyn
Well if you do the barheim key quest you can technically run up to the Salikawood and the gate crystal. The path to the Phon Coast would be blocked but not the path to Necrohol (apparently) because they're different directions. But you have to be crazy lucky to be able to get the spear before level 30 or so, the goblins are quick and will hit you damn hard at that level with your weak armor. I've never been hit more while training a zone then running past those goblins, and I've trained plenty of them.Originally Posted by Evelyn
It's fun when you're training necrohol and the goblins pop up and cast death on you lol
So whats this with the Henne Mines having the spear? is there not a chance for it spawn in one of the 16 chests? sure as hell hope theres a savepoint here, having to walk back from the Bomb King area to the chest area everytime is gonna suck penis.
theres a specific set of chests in the beginning of the game that you cant open. If you do, there will only be 15 chests in the 16 chest room in necrohol. If you dont open the right chests, there will be 16 chests in the 16 chest room and 1 will always 100% be the spear.
The alternative way is to go into the hard part of Henne Mines where you have about a 1% chance to get a spear from a chest in there. 10% spawn rate on the chest, 10% chance that the spear is even in the chest if it pops.
Can you get multiple ones from the one in henne?
(I know you can't get one from the 16 chest area, then in the henne mines)
So how did the first player find out that you had to not touch these 4 certain chests in order to get the best weapon in the game? This seems like a pretty lame point in the game design.
By asking SE if there were any really hard to find secrets to include in the guide. In case you didnt notice there is a LOT of info in the guide that would be nearly impossible to have gotten without SE cooperation. Like exact chest spawn rates/item rates/etc.Originally Posted by Stilgar
I looked through this thread to the best of my ability, but didn't see anything. Where is the chest that has the 1% chance to contain the Zodiac Spear if you did open one of the four chests early on? I'm thinking about opening one of them to intentionally prevent me from getting Zodiac Spear the easy way, it seems like everyone I talk to gets Zodiac Spear the easy way then beats the game ridiculously fast and doesn't enjoy the rest of the game because it was so stupidly easy.

Well, you can always get the 100% Zodiac Spear, then spend a few hundred hours getting two more from the 1% chest for completeness. Then never use them!
It doesn't take that long to open 100 chests, lol. Probably 2 hours, tops. Unless 1% is out of the ass and it's really .1%. Then that sucks, lol. Someone else in this thread said that you can't have more than one though, even if you get the easy one that the 1% one would never show up.Originally Posted by Khamsin

10% chance the chest contains an item (instead of gil)
10% chance the item is the Spear (instead of something else)
that's 0.1%
That does suck then. But I'm still not gonna get it the easy way, lol.
You don't think they just parsed every chest in the game 1000 times to get the percentage for each chest? That's what I thought.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
