It's the merchant in the South Bank Village. They're 20k... I got it right after beating Giruvegan/Great Crystal.

Where exactly in the Great Crystal are the Excalibur and Zodiac Eschutcheon chests located? I was in there last night farming some moon rings for the Sagitarius bow and got a little lost coming out and saw a chest near the Capricorn gate switch but didn't open it just to be on the safe side.

Also, what are the numbers next to mob names in the bestiary for?

I think it is on the second floor of the top level. You take a teleporter up to the upper part of the Crystal Grande, and the next teleporter going up (well, except the shortcut one to the top) should take you to the floor with the Excalibur. There is actually a map on GameFAQs showing the seperate levels, I got the Excalibur on the far right part of that map, on the second level.

The numbers next to enemies show how many more you need to kill before getting their second page in the bestiary. Pretty sure you need every enemies second page to get a complete bestiary.

What do you mean just to be on the safe side? If you open it then leave the zone and come back, the chest is there again.

What do you mean just to be on the safe side? If you open it then leave the zone and come back, the chest is there again.

Cuz I haven't found any evidence that the chests are one time only chests or reappearing chests so I didn't chance it. I wouldn't hold it past SE to make those chests one-time only ones

excalibur's chest is one time only

zodiac esutcheon's chest is a rare spawn and it's either the zodiac shield or a brave suit. once you get one of them, it never respawns. It's the chest directly to the north of the series of teleporters that go to Omega. Or the area 2 areas north of the tile labeled XXI in this screenshot.

I don't really know where Excalibur's chest is, I followed a guide to get it, and it was there the first time I tried so didn't really care where it was.

Wear Thief Cuffs and pull it to the zone and gambit steal spam...

Make sure the zone is clear before you pop the NM obviously.

Is the item in the chest 100% an Excalibur? or do you need to wear an armlet and hope you get it. (reset and try again?)

does it actually say that or its like a hidden effect like the flame staff.
