The best endgame gear and where to find it

Since the other thread is about low-midlevel stuff as far as I can tell, new thread for those approaching endgame. This was otherwise going to be a PM to Helpoemer about the weapons I want, but this is better for everyone:

Best weapons:

Gun - Fomalhaut - After Antlion hunt go back into the room there, 25% chance the chest appears and good chance it's the gun.

Polearm - Zodiac Spear - Avoid opening chests at 4 places:
-Outside Old Dalan's place
-In the SE corner of cellars in the Rabanastre palace
-In the room you get your weapons back at Nalbina
-The collection of 16 chests at Phon Coast
If you don't open these it'll be in a room in the middle of 5 floors in the Necrohol of Nabudis, 16 chests, 100% chance 1 is a spear.

Dagger - Danjuro - NM in Giruvagen, Pops in the zones with Way Stone XIII and XIV. Pops randomly during a high chain of Necrophobe's. Can take a long time to spawn, upwards of chain 200+, low drop rate (0/8 personally)

Gkat - Masamune - Hunt reward "Battle on the Big Bridge"

Mace - Grand Mace - Reward for beating Pylraster

Handsbombs - Volcano - Reward for beating Catoblepas

Rod - Rod of Faith - After the Behemoth King mark go to Bur-Omisace. Unequip Vaan's weapon and touch the dragon's nose in the second area.

Greatsword - Tournesol:
Trade Goods, after selling off 3 Serpentarius, 3 Empyreal Soul and 3 Gem Steel
- Get Serpentarius from Bazaar Goods, after selling off 1 Great Arcana, 4
Snake Skin and 2 Snake Eye
- Get Snake Skin from Wild Snake in Giza Plains(Dry Season)
- Get Snake Eye from Basilisk in Feywood
- Get Great Arcana from Bazaar Goods, after selling off 10 Arcana, Electrum and 1 Soul Of Thamasa<sp>
- Get Arcana from any monster if you have the Canopus' Pot
- Get Spirit Stone from any Spirit
- Get Soul Of Thamasa<sp> from Over Soul in Nabudis
- Steal from Rare Monster Isteen in Barheim Passage
- Wait at East&West Bypass or the Zevia Connecting Bridge
- Possible Drop from Red Chocobo Level 99 in Ozmone Field
- Lots of Rare Monsters can also drop this
- Get Empyreal Soul from Bazaar Goods, after selling off 1 Great
Arcana, 1 Soul Powder and 2 Wargod's Ring
- Get Soul Powder from Etem in Henne Maseki/Magicite Mines (high lvl area, need at least 10 espers then speak to Geomancer in Jahara)
- Get Wargod's Ring from Wired in Nabreus Deadland
- Get Gem Steel from Bazaar Goods, after selling off 1 Scarletite, 2
Dalmasca Steel and 2 Hell-Gate Flame
- Get Scarletite from Emeraltas in Nabreus Deadland or Steal from the
Aspidochelone in Cerobi Steppe
- You can also Fish it by getting Perfect at the River of the Lord fishing area
- Get Dalmasca Steel from Bune in Pharos At Ridorana
- Get Hell-Gate Flame from Cerberus in Feywood


You can also get 1 of each (serp, gemsteel, soul) as a reward from Montblanc

Eight-fluted Pole:
Need to have beaten Seer Mob Hunt. Teleport to Pharos at Ridorana and take the lift down to Abyss, go to the NW Area, through a Fool's Facade and into zone into a big room, Vagrant Soul will be there, 100% steal from it.

Staff of the Magi
Need to have beaten Vagrant Soul, take teleporter DIRECTLY to Umbra (2nd option) and go to SW room, through a Fool's Facade and zone into a big room, Light of Light will be there, 100% steal from it

Armor:

Genji Shield, Genji Gloves - Stolen from Gilgamesh fight 1 during his 2nd and 3rd sword changes.

Genji Helm, Genji Armor - Stolen from Gilgamesh fight 2 during his 2nd and 3rd sword changes.


I'll update if some good posts are made explaining how to get the weapons/armor and if I find any myself.

Maximillian is a really nice armor that drops from the Imp monsters in the Necrohol Nabudis. 58 Defense, 1 Mag resist, +9 Strength, +6 speed, but no HP+ d:

I really like the helmet Magepower Shishak, +39 Mag res, +11 Strength, +5 Magic, pretty cool for Gkatana users as it has similar but slightly better stats than Genji, but I don't know exactly how to get it :/ It popped up in a bazaar after I hunted the monsters of Cerobi Steppe. I'm almost positive I saw it in a regular armor shop but I can't remember where.

Strongest Crossbow Gastrophetes drops from a nightmare nm in the Ridorana Cataract, if I remember correctly it popped in the area north of the circular area. NM named Pallicant and it's easy as cake, the crossbow has 76 attack power.

Both armor you listed can be bought at a secret shop in the Necrohol of Nabudis on the floor with the Salikawood zone. And the head is awesome for gkat users, wasn't sure if it was the 'best' so wasn't going to list that.

Excalibur and Ultima Esper:

Head to Giruvegan. Go all the way into the Crystal Grande. At
the first area, take the path that leads up. Check the mechanism at the end. Go
back down and the right seal is gone. So, take that path up. Take the warp here
to another area.

- You will be in the area with Transitional Mechanism X. Take the path up from
here
- There are TM XX in the middle and
- Path to N, leads to Gate Sagittarius Control Mechanism
- Path to NE, leads to Gate Sagittarius Control Mechanism as well
- Path to NW, Gate Sagittarius 2nd. Check Gate Sagittarius Control Mechanism,
rush to the Gate Sagittarius 2nd, unseal it manually
- Leads to TM XII
- Path to SE, Gate Sagittarius 1st. Check Gate Sagittarius Control Mechanism,
rush to the Gate Sagittarius 1st, unseal it manually
- Leads to TM XI
- Path to SW, dead end
- Take either TM XI or TM XII. Since TM XII got Excalibur on the way, we will
take TM XII
- You will be by the TM XIV and
- Path to S leads to the Gate Leo Control Mechanism and Gate Leo 1st
- Path to N leads to Excalibur and Gate Leo 2nd
- Check the Gate Leo Control Mechanism, ignore Gate Leo 1st and rush the way to
north to move on toward Gate Leo 2nd
- On the way, there is an area with 2 paths:
- Path to NW leads to Excalibur
- First time checking the Treasure in this area probably won't get you
Excalibur. Zone away 3 times then come back here to try again.
- Path to W leads to Gate Leo 2nd
- Pass the Gate Leo 2nd, take either path, it leads to TM XV
- You will be by TM XVI with 3 paths. Sure, this is a big place with lots of
areas, but there are only 2 Transitional Mechanism here. One is TM XVII which
will lead you to Ultima, the other one is TM XXI which will take you all the
way to Omega which you can't fight till you beat Yazmat. Plus, you can't get
to Omega right now
- From TM XVI, take the middle path to Gate Libra Control Mechanism. Check it
and back to the TM XVI area. Take the left path. Go on and through the Gate
Libra 1st
- Pass Gate Libra 1st, continue on to the area with 3 paths:
- Take the left/west one. It leads to the Gate Capricorn Control Mechanism
- Press that and rush all the way to the TM XVI area
- At the TM XVI area, take the right/east path. Pass the Gate Capricorn 1st
and check the Gate Virgo Control Mechanism
- Rush to the Gate Libra Control Mechanism area
- Go either path, they both lead to a Gate Virgo seal
- Beyond either Gate Virgo seal leads to TM XVII. You will be by TM XVIII. Move
on to an area with a Save Crystal. Save your game and 3 paths:
- Path to N leads to Ultima
- Path to NE leads to TM XX (For quit exit/back tracking)
- Path to NW leads to Gate Aquarius Control Mechanism


Tournesol:

- Pick one and you can't get the other
- Treasure in Barheim Passage, 2nd east area from where Zalhera is
- Equip the Diamond Bangle
- At SE, just after the traps

Is Excalibur 1h or 2h sword? I always thought 1 but I read somewhere it was 2h.

And I meant stats on all Genji gear >.> I'm going to have to reroll for those gloves I bet.

i remember it being 5 more evasion than crystal shield, but 5 less magic evasion than crystal...maybe i'm thinking of crystal shield evasion

Crystal shield actually has 25 Evade and 10 Magick Evade

first area from salikawood entrance, go to one of the long corridors with a room at the end and there's a secret area that's not marked on the map, in one of the corners is a ???, check it and that's the shop. Ethers are sold here after Pharos at Ridorana
