Secret of Mana amirite?
My brother and I were thinking the same thing. Multiplayer for this game would make this game from a 10/10, to a 234782234234/10.
I would be the healer >.>.
Multiplayer co-op up to 6 players, that is. Otherwise, you'd have player 2 buying player 3 a six pack in exchange for his uber items, and player 4 trying to MPK player 1 so he can get the drops. Player 5 would just randomly attack his party members just because he thinks he's funny.
Dont forget about them crazy Chinese people.Originally Posted by Khamsin

The gambits make the characters ultra efficient. We need gambits for our npc's in FFXI.
I beat it and would give it a max 8/10, and honestly for the new FF I was somewhat disappointed I guess. I think the story was kinda ...eh, and could have been part of something much bigger and better. I know there were time constraints/people leaving that took part in that decision, but even so.
I loved every single character in this game, and that's what really drove it for me. I wanted to learn everything I could about all of them, even the smaller roles like Kytes etc. I just think that beside doing mark quests, which don't give you anything but a little "lolgoodjob!" there weren't any good side quests. No character ultimate weapons, no customization really, and after curaja was available the game was retardedly easy haha![]()
When I say there was no customization I mean that the License Grid made it so that in the end (or really even the middle) everyone is the exact same. Everyone has the same augments, starts in the same place, and can get whatever they want just as easily as anyone else. In FFX people started on certain places on the Sphere Grid, meaning that that person was supposed to be a melee if his sphere grid said so...I loved that. In 12, everyone was the same...pick a character you think looks pimp and use it. Becuase it's the exact same as the next character that looks cool. I thought that was a major downfall of the game. And if you wanted to get +magick for a caster, you had to get +str for it too, so it's not like they even gave you the option.
I can't rant that much though, the 60 hours I put into the game were fun, but after reading the guide for the side quests I just don't even want to do them.
What are your guys' thoughts on the ending? I loved it. Love, love, love, loved it.
Yeah I had the same problem with the license grid. All the characters were the same, but my main problem with it was that there wasn't any point to make dedicated single class characters because of how long you have to wait for things to become available. You can max out on great katana licenses early and easily but what does it matter when gkt isn't even available til you reach the garif village? You can get -Ga black magic licenses very early but you can't actually learn the spells til much later, so what do you do? Learn some white magic, learn some green, and get attack augments because black magic is a waste of mp anyway when you can save it for crazy curaja spam. I didn't like the generic "anybody can wear" armor/weapon/etc. You can have a dedicated mage character in maximillian if you so desire, and they will take the same damage as your appointed tank. The story seemed kinda sprawled out like they couldn't decide exactly what to do at certain stages, there was too much to show and they ended up bringing in too little, I mean there wasn't much to the personal stories, besides for Basch. I couldn't understand half of the war stuff.
The ending could have been stronger but it goes with the nature of the game, you can't really have a huge, exciting, explosive, completely finishing ending in a game where the bad guy's big bad plan isn't his evilest doing. His worst actions didn't seem directly related to his grand scheme. The parallel of him and ashe both wanting the nethicite was cool though, I just wish it went a little deeper. I liked Basch's parts of the ending of course, and penelo's fancy pants. lol
but I played 100 hours in 7 days so really what the fuck am I complaining about, I enjoyed it. The story didn't have nearly the (heart shattering) impact on me of 8 or 10 but it was great nonetheless and some of the fights in this are completely unmatched by other FFs. I think ashe was an interesting and unique lead character, and Basch is one of the best characters ever. All the characters are great, including the support cast (Vossler, Larsa, and Al-Cid stand out for me).
I think a lot of people have problems with the game because the setup was so awesome but the game was too short for them. That's my only complaint that it's short. I actually like how they didn't go into everyone too deeply, what happened when you were 5 doesn't always effect what you do at 20, you know. But I wish there were some sidequests that would give more info on Balthier/Fran's meeting and Basch/Gabranth's homeland and what happened there. I enjoyed the open-ended-ness of the characters because they made the characters solid and good but left you with enough to be guessing and filling in the blanks on your own.
I think the story was really good and the characters awesome though. I agree on the weapons/gear thing though, it should make more of a difference. Vaan should kick ass with daggers more than anyone, Basch with polearm, Ashe gkat, etc. Even if they kept the license system that's fine, just give them special bonus' or something.
And my biggest problem is the map is huge but you don't go to a lot of it. You never visit Rozarria and hardly go into Archadia, the world is huge but everything is small. The game should've been twice as long story-wise, but I think every good game is going to make you feel like that, wanting more and more. I think that's why FFVII can be whored out so much because people want more and more of that story.
I took my armor off my main party and put it on my level 10-15 scrubs and now they're killing everything in the pharos. :/
I wanted to try that but my second party is decent lvl. Is it the exact same damage?Originally Posted by DeadLegend
yeah they're getting hit for the same, only problem is lower max hp and slower kills with low strength
as much as most fans rave about customization in the FF games, I honestly believe that we should go back into a more "old school" rpg style. The sphere grid and license board were good and all but personally I prefer the feel of a more limited system on character customization.
The lisence board and sphere grid make all the characters more of a blank slate where everyone can choose the path of their character, although the sphere grid is much more limited in what you can do. I prefered the style of FF7, legend of Dragoon and golden sun, where there is a sense of character customization, but overall your chracter is programmed a certian way.
but ya FF12 is so much like XI it can be scary at times, although I must applaud them on making a mmorpg into a single player game with such high quality. Only thing I feel that is missing in this game is a real "plot twist". The story seems so linear, go here, get this, go here, talk to this person, it kinda made me feel like the story let me down. but overall definitly a 9.5/10.
after this I have Tales of the Abyss and Okami to finish ><
Fag, you still play FFXI?Originally Posted by sephir

The problem with the license grid is it's a bit easy to max. I'm not finished on any of my characters at level 84 atm, but I'm only a few hundred off of it for my backline and all my guys are finished the top half and the weapons/armor they'll need. I didn't try as much in FFX to max but I did go get ultimate weapons and such and never really came close to even halfway done on any of my characters.
But the license grid is sort of a mix between FF7 progression and FFX. Each character has their own hp/str/mgk/vit/spd growth but you can gear them in any way you wish. The 'problem' I think is that they made the differences in characters similar to race differences in FFXI...not very meaningful. In FF7 didn't you get stats upwards of 150-200 with 255 being the cap? So far my Basch str is below 80 as a base, Vaan is 1 behind, I think Ashe is 3 behind. The scale is too small in this game.
I agree that the world was too small. I looooooooooooooved Al-Cid (and the way Penelo reacted around him was the cutest thing EVER) and totally wanted to see his hometown.
Im guessing in FFXII Rev Wings we'll be going to new places mentioned in XII, and learning more about characters that we didn't get to learn as much about in this one.
Rev Wings sounds fairly lame, but should still be better than FFX-2 on the basis that the characters in XII are 100x better than X. I can't afford a DS so I'm going to be hoping for some form of emulation cause I want the story <.<
I play sometimes, not nearly as much as I was though, just nothing really motivating me to play XI anymore.
She's priceless when Al kisses ashe's hand lol. What's this Red Wings thing? >.>Originally Posted by Lbelle
Honestly that stuff annoys me, I was in agreement with Balthier's reaction when he was shown in the backround of that happening. Overly romantic with someone you don't even know is annoying and fake and gets on my nerves.Originally Posted by DeadLegend
Red Wings is a DS game that's going to be a 'sequel' of sorts. It's based on Vaan + Penelo's adventures as Sky pirates.
