I would have been angry if they hadn't shown Fox in that SSB trailer.... then it was saved at the end! Too bad Fox's head looks kind of dumb.

The bad news is that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will no longer be a Wii launch title, but will instead be released in 2007.
I don't think it's coming out next Christmas...

    Neither is Mario Galaxy.

I'd say March or June is the farthest.

That Smash Bros. trailer looks hot, I'm pumped for it, but one thing I don't understand is what they're doing with the characters. I really doubt they're going to remove any characters from the old game, but a ton of them are missing from that trailer. Are they trying to introduce the characters in stages? I could understand doing that with the new characters, but it really makes no sense to me to do that with the characters from the previous game...

    * Virtual Console games are not region free, an American Wii cannot download foreign games from Europe and Japan.
And that right there seals the deal on why I don't want a PAL Wii. Unless of course they say "Remember FF1-6 that we didnt release to EU/AU? We're making pal ports of them for wii!" I'm sticking to buying an NTSC version.

Yeah Fox looks a bit odd...

    Assuming they keep Falco among the characters, I hope they stay close to his SSBM look than the look he had in Star Fox: Assault or whatever. >_>;

I still don't understand what gaming company gain with the region specific crap. It seem to encourage piracy more than anything, without giving them any profit.

Couldn't agree more. Half the ppl I know in AU just dl'd FF12 and will have played it, finished it, got 100% on their modded PS2, 4 months before official launch.

I'm pretty much gonna get a NTSC Wii as well, region locking has been the bane of my gaming life ever since PS1 first came out (and noticably PE1 and CC didn't come out over here)

Region locking does a few things.

By far the most important property of region locking is that it affords the studios the ability to price titles differently in different locations. For example, in AU, apparently the accepted value of a video game is about 25% more than the US. Therefore, when you sell a title for $10 in US, you *should be able to sell it for $12.50 in AU. (In adjusted terms, it would be like ~10USD for the title in the US, ~16AUD for the title in AU).

They use the same system in DVDs, and are trying to do the same thing with textbooks. It's actually cheaper to buy and ship textbooks from England than pay the zealous markup that the publishers get away with in the US. So the publishers deliberately shuffle the order of problems in the problem sets between UK and US versions, to frustrate students who would import books to save money.

There's an economic term for this system of profit maximization, read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_discrimination .

There are other reasons for region locking. For example, if you have to submit to a content rating system, then you can submit subtley different versions to different regions to obtain the "right" rating in the different regions. Also some places have laws regarding (for example) language delivery; you can ship a version to that region with special concessions in order to meet those burdens without crippling other regions.

Personally, I think Fox looked REALLY GOOD in Starfox Assault and Starfox Adventues, especially in Adventures. The detail on the fur and everything was incredibly. Obviously, SSB isn't going to be about character design as much, but still... so far it looks like they're leaning more towards the Starfox DS model, which is TERRIBLE. I hate that game just because Fox looks absolutely retarded.

I was kinda new to gaming when Adventures came out, so I had never played the original flying Fox games for 64 etc., but I thought that Adventures was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun, and everything in the game was really pretty.

I haven't seen anything regarding Starfox for DS, but I think that Falco looks pretty cool in that picture posted hehe.

The economics of it makes sense but I don't really buy the second party. You can still "ship" different versions of a game to different regions, and still not lock users out who decide to import your merchandise.
I'm sure its money driven than anything else... Or in the case of the Japanese: lolRoundeye GTFO.

Yeah I didn't have a problem with Fox's look in Adventures/Assault. I just personally didn't like the look they used for Falco. Overall, in a game like SSB:B I doubt I'll really care that much overall since I'll be enjoying the gameplay. :D

Just saying, I'm going to make another... "edition" tomorrow, even though it is rather soon. If I'm going to do it every week, I rather it be on Monday, so it's easy to remember.

Was that the one with the dinosaurs? D:< I hated that one so much, I buy Starfox games for flying and then they make ghetto Zelda with dinosaurs and 5 minutes of flight.

I'm still bitter about Peppy going from "cute squeaky bunny" on SNES to "wrinkled old man Peppy" though, so I'm kind of biased... but Assault wasn't bad.

DS Fox looks kind of stupid (although I haven't tried the game yet) but I'm pretty sure they could have made it worse.
