*This is all based on my experience with the Xbox360 release* I was paid to wait in line for a 360.

Best Buy did get the most systems of all the stores in my area, but they sell all systems go to customers first. FYI Best Buy will NOT stay open till midnight/reopen to sell them. We had to wait for the stores normal opening time, which might not have been so bad if it hadn't started to POUR at like 4am :/

And someone who mentioned Walmart, I wouldn't bet on them. I work there, and my store only got like three 360's, and there had been people in line for them a day and a half ahead of time.

The night before the 360 came out, I got out of work then went right to best buy, because it was the only place that (as far as everyone knew) had more stock then people in line. Went with my woman friend, that way we could take turns running to get food stuffs, and take turns warming up in the car. And be warned, I saw almost 5 fights because of people trying to cut.

    Edit: Remembered something good

When they opened, a few employee's came outside and started to give people tickets to buy the system, once they ran out, you were SOL. As we finally got inside the store, people were so desperate, there was one guy who was willing to buy a TICKET for 400$. Just the ticket to buy the system. So if you go with a friend, even if you only plan to buy one PS3, grab an extra and scalp it. I kick myself every time I remember that, because I didnt get an extra ticket :/

I was thinking of camping at target but i'd probably end up doing it alone. I'd really like to get 2 systems though, i'm still undecided. In my area i cant imagine people camping for more than 24hours before opening, and if i am right about that i'll definatly do it, but any more than that i just dont feel is worth it. Especially since i'm tentless.

Haha, if you really live on Jersey Shore, come camp with me and my friend if you're alone. It's like impossible to do it alone imo, people not gonna give a shit when you need to go to the bathroom.

When I went to the GameCube launch at Wal-Mart, I got in line ~9PM EST, and there were only a few people ahead of me, but after myself, many more people started to line up.

I recently talked to the guys that work in the electronics department, and they said they had someone there at ~7AM the day of the 360's launch.

I'm hoping there won't be _too_ much demand for the Wii so I don't have to wait in line all day, but I think Zelda is going to keep the initial systems flying off the shelves rather fast.

A Target store in a suburb around here is just handing out tickets to whoever is there at 6 am release day for both systems, from what Joe Blow electronic salesman said anyways. He made it sound like they'd easily have enough tickets for as many people that bother to show up. If that's really the case, I might head down for both releases a half hour before they hand out tickets. I'm going to call for confirmation on that whenever I have the time.

If I ended up with a Wii, I'd keep it. But, I'd probably profit off the PS3.

that's what my target is doing...so I'll go work a little early on PS3 release day and see if there is a line, if not, I'm so flipping 1 or 2 on ebay.

Camp at Toys R Us. Employees don't get the systems before customers, and there'd probably be a a DS download station within 30 feet of where you'd be standing.

I dont think anywhere lets employee's have first dibs. I have a friend that works at EB, and one that works at bestbuy. The one that works at bestbuy has one preordered at eb since the one at eb cant get one. It's kinda funny because the one gets a ps3 on release day and the other has to work and sell them lol.

As for target just handing out tickets to whoever is there at 6am on release day, people will be lined up most likely 1-2days in advance (at least) to be given a ticket at 6am... Unless noone goes at all, just showing up 30min early wont get you a system. Target opens at 8am I think anyway, at least mine does, so you'll still be standing there for 2.5hr's

My gf plans to camp out another 12hrs to get me mine at walmart. Like she did last year for my 360. And since they wont let the line start till noon the day before it comes out she knows around the time to get there or be walking around. For my 360 she was 4th in line and too bad we didn't pick up an extra to sell would have been nice. Who knows might do it with the ps3 if we can get a good spot. Hopefully it doesn't screw up like the first 360's did cuz i had to send mine off for about a month.

As for PS3 both of them said they are expecting less than 10 on launch day. So... grats those 5-6 people first in line cause that's all they'll have probably.
I know this has been posted already (in a different thread), but never has there been a more appropriate time to post this comic:

Didn't we already go over the fact that you use your girlfriend to buy things for you?

Kinda, we went over you assuming things you really don't know about. What does that situation have to do with borrowing his to camp out a ps3 for me? Having someone do it for me so I wouldn't have to take the day off would be great. Do you just like to fight or argue, or do you have a problem with dropping things and never letting them go?

I lined up for PS2 when I was in university and was ~8h early for a midnight release and was 150ish in line... Where I was, they gave the people in line numbered t-shirts to make sure no one cut.

It depends where you are, how many the retailer would get (based on sales so a Best Buy would probably get more than a local EB games) and if they have an internet sale.

In this day and age, camping for something like that is as easy as the F5 key for most places.

I'm considering camping it out (to sell on eBay, I'll admit it), but I'm a little scared about the price tag and the negative press I keep seeing about PS3. I don't want to end up stuck with a $500 system that I can't even afford games for. Is there any chance of not being able to sell it and at least get my money back?

You will be able to mark it up. You will be able to return it provided you have a receipt and its not open.

You could probably sell it on ebay for $2k, there are plenty of idiots out there who would pay for a PS3.
