I would expect this rule to be changed after the season so this can't be done again.

Oh noes, they didn't honor some unwritten code of conduct. Christ, it isn't King Arthur times out there. If a stupid rule helps you run out 25 seconds of clock then so be it.

    But, they're pussies!!!!

Assuming they couldn't decline the penalty (because otherwise JoePa presumably would've), is there anything to prevent a team from doing this at the start of the third quarter and then running out the entire second half? You'd be kicking from your own 1" line after a few kicks, but who cares?

I love how they acually come up with the ball in the end.

If they did that at the start, they could have potentially scored lol

Teams that pull that kind of bullshit should have it taken out on their BCS ranking. I don't want that trashy fucking play in a bowl game, period.

Every team in football will kneel on the ball to run out the clock when they have the lead and enough downs to end the game. Should they all be taken out of the BCS?

I'm not "proud" of it, it's just something that happened in the game - probably more important than the bad rule exploit. It clearly wasn't intentional, and yeah you're right, a Heisman trophy and Rose Bowl victories in the past 10 years, but breaking Paterno's leg is all Wisconsin will be remembered for. Good game.

    1. Kneeling the ball to run time off the clock at the end of the game isn't a penalty. By exploiting a rule and purposely getting a penalty they should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike and had time put back on the clock.

Do you think players who fake being injured to stop the clock when a team has no time outs is okay? The rules say that injury time isn't charged to any team, so this exploit in the rules is okay isn't it?

    2. "Before we ended his ability to stand" sure sounds to me like you were happy that it happened, especially since you brought it up when Paterno getting his leg broken had nothing do with the crap play your coach called (which is what this thread is about).

    3. When I said "that team" I meant the 2006 Badgers, not all of Wisconsin ever.

Don't give the refs the power to decide whether or not someone is exploiting a rule for personal gain mid-game. Let's make a ref's job more black and white rather than adding additional shades of gray and room for interpretation.

The rule obviously has an exploit, simply change it later. Wisconsin brought attention to that this weekend, knowing full well they could probably only do it once. If there's an issue with that, imagine the outcry that would have occurred had they done it at the end of a game.

Ever see a team intentionally take a delay of game penalty before a punt around the opposing team's 45 yard line to give their punter a more "comfortable" punt? Is that unsportsman-like exploiting of a rule, or just a reasoned choice given the penalty and the rules of the game?

The point here is that you shouldn't penalize a team for capitalizing on a poorly written rule. You should fix the rule, or not make poorly written rules in the first place.

And I'm sorry if it seemed like I enjoyed JoePa's injury, I was just surprised that noone had mentioned it in a specific thread about that game.

Wisconsin has jumped up to #9 in the BCS, with a patsy opponent (2-8 Buffalo) at home next week to finish their season. Meanwhile, all of the 8 teams above them in the BCS are going to play each other in the next 3 weeks (Michigan vs. Ohio State, Rutgers vs. W. Virginia, USC vs. Notre Dame, and most likely Florida vs. Arkansas). Odds are extremely likely that the losers of 3 of those games (save UM vs. OSU) will fall below UW in the BCS, moving them up to #6. And what will be the probable reward for such excellence?

"Representatives from the Capital One, Champs Sports, Outback and Alamo bowls were in attendance. With Ohio State and Michigan both currently in line for BCS bids, Wisconsin is considered the front-runner for the Big Ten's Capital One slot."

The Capital One bowl. I hate fucking corporate sponsors - it sounded at least somewhat respectable when it was the Citrus Bowl.
