    Dunno why you say that, it's interesting knowing exactly how thing work. I remember having trouble figuring the latent 1-2 years ago on unicorn when I got mine. I was getting number ranging from 65% to 75%.
    I know, I said I take back anything I said before in light of the new information. Its definately a good find now...though moreso for tanking as WAR Im thinking.

    Just so we're clear, he didn't say Sorcerer's Ring is based on naked HP, because it's not. Wearing HP+/- gear changes the HP you need to achieve latent. Wearing Convert HP > MP or MP > HP gear does not.

    Question is, why are people ending up with Latents with 60% HP?

    Not all HP% and MP% latents work the same, sorcerer's ring is based on 75% HP modified by HP+/- but not convert gear (% where it activates ends up higher than 75% in typical BLM gear), parade gorget is based on 85% HP modified by head, body, hands, legs, feet, weapon, shield, and ranged, but not any other slots (% where it activates ends up lower than 85% in typical PLD gear), etc. I believe it was the thread-starter's intention to nail down the specific conditions for the unicorn set.

    Moon phase/Day?
    If so, have fun writing down numbers.

    While playing with Parade Gorget/Herc ring and reading posts I always thought hp based latents were base hp + 'main slots' of equipment (AF slots, dunno about waist/neck/back but not rings/earrings or something) were considered and that's it.

    When I am weakened and get unweak, if I let Herc Ring heal me until latent is off, it's +/- 1 or 2% hp when it stops (usually 51% I think) and if I put on a BQ ring, there is no latent activation. If I put on Homam Corazza over AF1 (+8hp) I get another tick or two.

    It would be funny if there's a progression order for hp to get stacked.

    Put on Unicorn Cap and start taking venom pots. Monitor your strength. I think the white HP is bullshit due ot the fact when I tested this my latent wore of at 49%.

    If your healers are retarded enough to let you sit at less than 65ish% HP for more than a few seconds, while tanking big stuff as Warrior it doesn't matter anyway, you're probably gonna die rather soon regardless.

    Good mages equals a good Warrior tank, Unicorn or not.

    What Eaglestrike said makes sense: The main pieces of armor, i.e. the ones in which your character blinks when you change, are the ones used to calculate values for HP related latent effects. However as many people have mentioned converting gear doesn't affect it and it seems HP% gear does not as well, probably because the game seems to register these as pseudo-HP. Converting gear because your HP doesn't really disappear but is reallocated and HP% because it's not a constant and flexible on you "base" HP value. I know some people said that things like BQ ring and Cassie Earring didn't have an effect but what about mana and astral rings? Just a thought since then that would be a big difference to me knowing that convert gear is calculated separately from HP/MP +/- gear and if it matters which slot it is in. Taru in full Zenith to activate lvl 50 rings... :D

    I wonder if this has any effect on things like Ugg Pendant if you are wearing full Zenith.

    Hi Chazqui

    It likely has to do with the actual order in how FFXI processes your equipment. It will have a defined order such as:

    Base hp
    Calculate any body latents
    Add/subtract hp from body slot
    Calculate any head latents
    Add/subtract hp from head slot
    <etc>
    Calculate any feet latents
    Add/subtract hp from feet slot
    <etc, etc, etc>
    Add/subtract hp from food
    Calculate convert HP/MP
    Calculate HP% +

    Therefore HP latents in different slots will see your Max HP as different values.

    As a side issue, there's an issue with respect to +hp% gear and fenrir's stone where the same gear layout can give you different total HP depending on when you equipped it. Probably has to do with the above mechanic.

    If I wasn't playing FFXII too much to go into FFXI, I'd test if what you say is true against what I said using sanction regen or something. I'm pretty sure that should be calculated after all gear (by your theory) so it'd show if certain pieces of gear mattered or just if there's an order to it. Someone else go try kthx >.>

    All slots count for the sorcerors ring, including but not limited to rings, weapon, back, waist, and ofcourse all armour slots.
