Obviously the IGE adverts don't pay as well as they should.

I don't mind KI itself (the SAM forum is actually decent, mostly due to sheer intolerance of stupidity), but the open and general forum there is a pit, but it is a horrendously buggy POS code base.

Also, their moderation sucks. I got threatened with a permanent ban for having an avatar deemed pornographic. This is from KI, which has a default avatar of a naked chick.

KI is slow because its poorly designed and uses mysql.

More likely it's slow because of its LOLslowass open source forum scripts and their lame-assed servers.

MySQL is likely faster than oracle for the select/insert operations these scripts heavily rely on. (or at the very least very very close in time)

I don't see a reason why a forum would need the number-crunching oracle is renowned/priced for.

My connection appears to connect to a datacenter in Dallas, Texas. Connecting to the site itself is usually fairly quick however, and many of the links on it are fast as well. Most of the slowness is seen when you try to access things that do database calls (such as their forums).

I highly doubt their communication between front end and back end servers (if it even is on different servers) is the bottleneck here. It pretty much is what others here have stated, the slowness is due to application slowness (likely misconfiguration or poor program design of the forum software itself).

-Not enough bandwidth at the datacenter hosting it
-Not enough resources to handle the requests on the database server
-Not enough resources to handle the requests on the application server
that is... if the application and database servers are seperate [I'd hope to god they are >.>]
-Software used to run the forums is not optimized for performance
-Too many losers
-...

I could keep going on... but it all comes down to this.
