OSU gonna win and i'll tell u why...

yes both teams have a freakish defence and a unstoppable offence, but when it comes down to it, the winner goes to the team that has the most experience in big game matchups = OSU. OSU is use to big games and hasn't failed in the past. However for Michigan, USC vs Michigan '04 i think it was, michigan choked over what it i think is the same team they have this year.

If so that is just assinine (sp?). Its probably saying like "little sisters of the poor" has a tougher schedule since they play harder schedules than other joke div 1aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa teams.

Yeah, agreed. Strength of schedule is apparently as subjective as the actual ranking, which is why I backed off my initial "Wrong" statement. This week's rankings are up for that, and they aren't any better (USC 36, USC 53). I have no idea what they are smoking, as they have Northwestern ranked as the toughest schedule. Northwestern plays in the Big 10, but plays such non-conference heavyweights as 1-9 Miami (OH), I-AA powerhouse New Hampshire, 1-9 Eastern Michigan and a decent WAC team in Nevada. The only thing I can figure is that system puts a lot more emphasis on road games, as Northwestern did play road games at Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Nevada.

Even if you discard that poll entirely, it's pretty clear that strength of schedule is highly subjective amongst the four 'reasonable' polls. USC's schedule is competetive with any team's in the country. Games @ Arkansas, home vs. Nebraska and Notre Dame balance out the weaker conference schedule than an SEC team might play. No championship game in the Pac-10 also reduces the possibility of another marquee game to boost their image.

In short, I don't think USC is one of the two best teams in the country, but if they beat Cal and Notre Dame the next couple of weeks, they will almost assuredly have the chance to prove it -- their strength of schedule is going to improve a lot more than Florida's for the rest of the season. Unless there is a swing in the voters (which is possible, see Texas v. Cal 2004), a one-loss USC will probably make the NC game.

Yes Tyche the rest of the Gators schedule is easy, but at the beginning of the season no one thought FSU was gonna suck ass. I don't think they would have had the stupid Full Circle thing of FSU v. Miami if they did.
And the beginning of their schedule was a lot harder when USC was playing all of those shit Pac 10 teams.
I think Florida controls their own destiny personally. They are a better one loss team than USC. And I don't see USC getting through both Cal and ND.

You're clearly in the minority on this opinion. Virtually every pundit I've read on ESPN, CNNsi or Foxsports all say with some degree of certainty that USC wins out they're in. (I don't get a lot of work done on Mondays).

USC has a tougher remaining schedule, the gap's only going to get bigger, not smaller. Your opinion of Florida having a tougher schedule is not matched by the computers (see our previous discussion) -- they're fairly evenly split. Even if they did have a signicantly tougher schedule in the computer's eyes, USC's strength of schedule will get tougher at a higher rate than Florida's. Florida needs help to get into the NCG. Whether that be USC beating UCLA by 3 points in a turnover filled game while Florida beats the shit out of Arkansas, or USC outright losing, Florida needs help. Squeaking out a home win over a middle-of-the-road SEC team in South Carolina doesn't help the Gators' cause, either.

Yea you're right heh. I am kinda being biased in this discussion I'll admit it. I really don't see USC beating both ND and Cal though. Cal has 2 losses right? But yea USC I think is really overrated since they have not played very many good teams. Granted that performance against Oregon was extremely impressive.

I never really thought about this but that USC-Arkansas game at the beginning of the year determined one of the teams in the national championship game and the other is this weekend with Ohio State-Michigan. (that's assuming USC can beat Cal and Notre Dame and Arkansas can beat LSU and Florida)

If I had to put money on it, I'd put it on USC in both those games. USC slouched through the middle of the season, squeaking by two or three teams before losing to Oregon State. However, since being down to OSU 33-10 in the late third quarter, USC has outscored their opponents 101-10. Admittedly, Stanford sucks, but the two Oregon schools are respectable, if not fantastic, opponents. The Trojans are hitting their stride, and Cal has looked bad the last three games, in wins over second division Pac 10 teams. Cal will get fired up for USC, and if the game were at Cal, I might have a different opinion, but I think USC wins this game.

By game day, Notre Dame will have played one team with a winning record in eight weeks (Navy). Notre Dame got lucky to beat UCLA at home, USC is at home. I think USC wins this one as well.

Would I be shocked if USC lost either one? No.

(Personally, I'm rooting for a Cal victory over USC and for USC to get an at large bid so that everyone else in the Pac-10 moves up a bowl notch. Go Beavers to a completely undeserved Holiday Bowl!)

Yea I'm picking USC over ND, since ND is so greatly overrated. Sucks that Georgia Tech couldn't finish that one in week 1. Or Michigan State whenever it was, but yea they aren't that good.

I saw them play at Oregon State. They utterly dominated the hapless Beavers, which wasn't the same team that beat USC three weeks later (I missed that game >.<). They can be damn good, but I haven't since any sort of fire from them since the WSU game on 10/14, and I've seen them on TV for all three of those recent games. If they can't get it back for this week's game, they are going to be in trouble.
