Why are people saying Wii cant play back DVDs? They are making a play back kit, like xbox; lets say that a DVD unit did cost 20$ to put in to a Wii, thats 20$ most people dont want to pay extra for something they already have. If they do want to use Wii for DVD, they can buy the playback kit. I personally like that option, and im sure millions of others do too.

As for the PS3, I would buy one if it was 300$, 400$ tops, but 600$? Thats ridiculous. I have the money and then some to buy a PS3 right now, but why would I waste so much of it on that pos? The only reason id end up buying a PS3 is for the RPGs, and I really hope Wii gets some of them this time around. Right now PS3 has no RPGs, and I havent seen any upcoming ones either, FFXIII doesnt interest me, FFXII was a let down and the FF main 'series' hasnt interested me since VIII. Even if PS3 gets a new RPG series, and it looks like the best ever, theres no way im going to shell out 600$, no game in this world (even if it was Zelda for an ex) is worth paying 600$ for.

With Wii its only 250$ for, if it completly fails and Zelda is the only good game to ever come out, who cares, I got my moneys worth out of it. Luckly, Zelda wont be the only good title, there will be atleast a dozen (lol I really hope Wii gets back into the industry) and hopefully a lot more.

By all means I will buy a PS3, but only when it comes down to 3~400$, anything higher then that isnt worth it, no matter how many good games come out.

For the people who are buying a PS3 release day, what are you buying with it? Nothing? a bluray movie? lolremakeRidgeRacer? Atleast Wii has a flagship game, PS3 has nothing.

PS3 definatly has had a weak launch, I'm confident it'll pick up though, Sony did have their head up their asses for a while now, but I think they're crashing down to earth and we can finally see some real progress. I still have my reservations about the Wiimote, but I guess people will figure that out sooner or later.

New systems have launch issues, it's pretty much unquestioned now. Trying to say the PS3 title issue or the 2005 hardware issue with XB360 are examples of 'fail' is pretty short-sighted. Expect hardware problems with PS3 just like every system, they get it worked out after a version or two and then they're solid. Most likely there will be problems with the Blu-Ray Diode if anything just because of all the manufacturing issues.

Wii won't play DVDs until they release a DVD version. This has to do with the licensing rights on the MPEG-2 decoder which would cost them extra money per machine which is passed directly onto the consumer. They created a game machine to play games, not to be a media center. Why add extra cost to the customer when it's not something they really wanted the system to do. There's also a hardware issue where they aren't able to offer a flash upgrade + License like what Microsoft did with the XBox 1.

IMO, PS3 will cause Blu-Ray to fail which only hurts the PS3. They're entering into a market with way too few units with comparable systems and alternatives available and stopping shipments on all Blu-Ray Diodes they manufacture to anything other than the PS3. In order for the Diode prices to drop, they have to be readily available and sold.

The system fails because it only sold 88,000 units at launch in Japan.

I know they sold out, but seriously. You've been researching/designing the system for years, and you can't even have enough systems ready at launch to satisfy demand. The system itself looks really promising, but I think Sony is retarded.

Let it be known that to me, Sony /= the PS3. They designed a really good system, but someone at that company doesn't know what they are doing.

About the Wii not having out of the box DVD playback, I agree w/ what people are saying. It'd be nice to have it, but I already have 2 DVD players in my room through my PS2/Xbox360, so if I can pay $20 less for the Wii w/ the option of getting playback later, it works for me.

Obviously Blu-Ray playback is a feature in the PS3 that makes it more attractive to a lot of people, and they're paying for it. Since I don't have 2 Blu-Ray players in my room already, its worth the price to me, but only if Blu-Ray actually wins the format war.

No, they only had 88,000 units to sell. They failed cause they took 2 days to sell-out.

They had manufacturing issues, and with the Wii and XB which would be on the market, AND the huge operating loss from trying to get the PS3 ready which has already hurt their shares, not releasing now would have been a huge business mistake that could have killed the company. They did the only thing they can to, but it's really bad on their part to try to persuade people to buy their expensive and bulky machine.

Hardware limitations, none of the 1st gens will ever be able to play DVDs. They'll release a 2nd (with DVD) version later as an option I think.

That's the question which won't be resolved until millions of people have thousands invested in each technology. The fact that there is competition here only screws the customer.

There are currently more RPGs for the Xbox360 than there will be for PS3 for the entire year. Just because RPGs made their home PS2 doesn't mean they will do the same for PS3. RPGs, with the Final Fantasy series and alike excluded, usually aim for cheap production when compared to first-person shooters. PS3 is currently the hardest/most expensive of all three consoles. Let's not forget just how far behind the PS3 is. Ultimately, Sony really shot themselves in the face(for maybe the 7th time) because of all the retail PS3s getting bought only to be sold on Ebay... game sells, which overpriced consoles live off of, are horrible for a launch.

This is all pretty offtopic, but this thread was a waste of space to begin with. When you start looking for problems, you know you are hating a little too much.

You were missing a word or phrased it in such a way that you were commenting on their only selling 88,000 units. Most people knew that's all they had, and I did assume you did as well, my point was that they were so under-supplied yet they took 2 days to sell out. HD penetration is a lot higher in Japan than the US, maybe there isn't the demand they're expecting.

Gee, that sounds familiar. Same was said between the PS1 and PS2. PS1 was easy to develope for while the PS2 was difficult. People were speculating that Sony wouldn't want RPG's on their system because of some press release Sony put out about the games they wanted to shoot for.

xbox won't have many RPG' cause it won't have the support from Japan that the other 2 consoles will have.

Out of the Wii and PS3, chances are PS3 will have the bulk of what we consider the traditional RPGs.

I don't know the details behind the Wii, but i know this for a fact with the original xbox.

The xbox has all the software and hardware it needs to play a DVD, but it didn't come with a paid for license to play for DVDs.. So when you bought the remote control for the xbox you were really paying some licensing company for the right to play a DVD.

The license is expensive and adds a lot to the product cost, unless you're Sony and most of the license fee is being paid to yourself.

It was harder to develop for. The difference is that DVDs were already fully integrated into the market and accepted. Blu-Ray is not. Developers made it for the PS2 first, then made a few changes for the other system. It was worth it BECAUSE the PS2 had a lot of units sold, so people would buy the games. Even if Blu Ray does become popular, it's not now, at least not anywhere near the extent that DvDs are.

As for the PS3 getting the bulk of the RPGs, yes, it could. But it has to do well first. Microsoft has a pretty big head start on RPGs, and not including Nintendo's oldies, at least a few coming out at launch or shortly after (Zelda, Marvel, ect). PS3 has 0 for the rest of the year (unless they added to the launch titles again, Ill check the shelves when i pick up my Wii), and speculation on when the first few actually come out is iffy at best.

It's kinda like trying to compare SNES's huge amount of RPGs and stuff to the N64's lack of them. You shouldn't try to base what is going to be on the system (or whether or not the system will suceed) solely by looking at the system before it. You have to wait until the games actually come out, and you have to actually see how the system does (like the chickens before the eggs hatch thing).

I DO want the PS3 to do well, because then it can start being made cheaper, so that when some games that I really really want do come out, I can afford them! But so far...blah. That's all I can say. Blah.

Edit: Why is the Dvd thing a big deal again? It would be nice, but seriously, my work sells new Dvd players for $23...

Also I found Marvel in the PS3 launch titles. There's 1 at least!

I think it's funny that the people wishing for PS3's demise are those who can't afford one, so they're trying to make themselves feel better for BEING FUCKING POOR!!! Haha losers.

Good assumption Norelco, since alot of the people who said they don't want a PS3 have actually said multiple times, "I can afford one, but I don't want one."

The PS3 isn't that expensive. In the UK we're expecting to pay around £599 for it. That's almost $1150 USD. You're not getting a bad deal really.

(Also consoles are a luxury item, it'd be a funny world if everyone could afford to buy whatever they wanted.)

Compared to what else is on the market and soon will be, yes, it is an expensive item. And for what will be available at launch, a bad deal.

I'm sure if I REALLY wanted a PS3, I'd have one before the end of the year. Shame there's nothing on it for me to want to shell out the money for one. I'm sure there will be someday, hopefully after a price drop or two. 8)

What is actually bad about the PS3?

No one on this board has made a good argument as to why it sucks. If you don't want one, or can't afford one, don't buy it. But that's not enough...you have to make yourselves feel better about your decision to not buy one by starting a thread clamoring for its demise. Are you retarded? Competition makes better products.

Console blasting is fucking gay, especially since probably none of you as of yet have played them.

It sucks cause all new consoles suck. Who cares about consoles. It's all about the games and until there are enough good ones, PS3 sucks. And the Wii will suck too.
