How hard are Ethers to get?

If you're impatient/a cheap ass, you can always steal them from the Coeurl's in the Uplands just before Arcadia. Got 3 in about an hour using Thief's Cuffs.

I stole 2 in about 10s on my 3rd run through the game. My hp=100% gambit stole me one, I was like...wait a second, that's the double EXP item...and then by the time I was finishing that thought I stole another. I was so surprised lol No thief cuffs either.

I didn't beat it until the 3rd time lol

First time I messed up Zodiac Spear.
Second time I didn't steal from Gilgamesh
(can you tell I wasn't reading guides?)

Also, my friend stole from the same two coeurl. They're in the 2nd zone into Tchita Uplands at the bottom of a hill with Marlboro at the top of the hill. We both stole 2 in a row there, so I'm thinking they might be bonus mobs.

Is there a double LP item?

As for keeping 6 characters fully equipped, as long as their license grids are more or less similar in the armor department, you only need to keep 3 fully equipped, and when you swap someone out just Remove All on their equipment and put it on someone else.

Double LP item is sold in the Mosphorion Wastelands at the gate crystal. It's sold at various other places but it's *always* sold there no matter where in the story if you can hax your way in there early.
