One could argue that infact, a point system is the ONLY way to decide without bias who is infact most deserving of any item - otherwise, it is just opinion. Like others from Kupo have said, you know exactly where you stand with our system, you know how much exactly you have put in as compared with others, and you know how much you are going to get out. The system is very well protected from abuse, job priority orders and competition ranges mean that we know exactly how much more one job has to do than another before they are entitled to lot an item that may be of more use to one than another. It works great.

As for points systems ending up with darks weilding adaberks and dex rings... that is a testiment to the shit quality of players you accept into your linkshell, not a testiment to anything to do with a point system. A shit player is a shit player regardless of the loot system.

I love my point system I made for my dynamis shell :

    Shadow Items
Shadow mantle is done by a point system. I point at you, you can cast lots.
Since I've never missed a run, I know which of our people who have tank jobs levelled have put effort in. I give them to paladins first though since they're gonna make the most use of it even if it's for exp.

Is the "you know its easy to level a job to 75" the ultimate loot whore statement?

These issues should be solved by common sense, someone who only has war or thf levelled and puts 100% into it should get an item over someone who has mage jobs levelled and knows they can get thf or war to 75 in a few months.

And if a mage puts 100% into it and a WAR puts 75% into it? It's easy to say "common sense this, common sense that" but it doesn't always work.

I'm referring to a thf or war who is 100% thf or war and wants only to pimp out 1 job, rather than a mage that will pimp war if they get certain items.

Frankly if someone put effort in as any job when camping and can use an item then they have as much right to it.

No matter how perfect your points/priority system may seem there will always be someone who thinks it is unfair and bitch about certain people getting certain items.

The LS knows who deserves what, or if there's an ambiguity, just be like "you 3 lot it." That way it's SE's fault if you lot low.
/nod, points are a bitch to track and I just feel points systems are for leaders that have their heads too far up their ass that they don't even know what members are just trying to score easy items and which ones are actually doing the work for the linkshell and actually deserve the items. /rant off.
This may be true in some cases, but in others its the members that want the points system, not the leaders.

I'm one of the leaders of my LS, and none of us really wanted to institute a points system, but a lot of people felt that the system we had where we would just choose who could lot was unfair. Of course then we created job priorities similar to what it sounds like Kupo has, which just caused the same problems for different reasons.

QFT. I've pretty much given up on the drop system in my LS cuz of this.

I have 5 main jobs (WHM BLM RDM SMN WAR) and one fun job (BLU). All my jobs are decent to very well equipped (Clerics, Novio, Chapeau, 5/5 SMN AFv2+YY, Ridill) and I don't side on any, I change them based on what's needed. A 'Main Job Rule' is a flawed concept for some people.

Muggles has a 75 PLD as well and got his Ridill ages ago for his 75 WAR. He did get Dalm > AFv2 tho.

M Body at 72, 2 dropped, only 2 members of the ls (me and the leader) could need it. At the time we were short of pld. Had 2 trial pld(trial members can't lot anything), one was at the fight for the last 30%, and I had a ridiculous camp record as blm. Was @5k til 73 and the main reason I wasn't 75 is because I didn't like to seek for pt anywhere near camp/event time. Even if I ended up needing to play blm more often(ls was always short on both) my 24/7 availability made the piece more valuable on me than on someone who wasn't going to be online, so I got pld rights.

I think a straight up point system that allows anyone to lot anything would be fairly goofy. It'd make no sense for someone like me (blm/pld) to have a ridill or e abjs or anything like that, or stuff like N abj which pld can wear but has no need for, or dalmatica on blm. However the mage curse has to be taken account for to an extent. Where a blm in king/sky gets just A hands, a war, drg, thf, or pld can get decked out with E, N, M abjs among other items such as aegishjalmr, ridill, pixie earring, etc. I wouldn't say it's right for a lv75 blm with 50 pld to get any m abjs over anyone with a pld higher than 70, but if the blm75 has pld72 which would be and will be 75, along with crazy attendance and they will be playing on pld and put the majority of their effort/time/money to pld, then they should have some rights depending on the overall picture of past/present/future attendance. That sentence is kinda hard to read but maybe you can see what I mean.

Okay look, this topic comes up about once every month or so here, and in the end it always ends the same way. Let me break it down for you:

The ideal "Leader's Choice" system is one where Lordwafik, as leader, chooses who lots something.

The ideal point system is one where the rules for awarding and redeeming points gives a result that most closely approximates what Wafik would choose were he deciding.

A shitty "Leader's Choice" system is one where corrupt and biased leaders give preferential treatment on lotting to themselves and their friends.

A shitty point system is one that has no checks to serve the best interests of the LS, where members are able to manipulate the system to put their own interests above that of the LS as a whole.

So basically, try to get into an ideal LS and not a shitty one.

Right, put that carrot in front of me and my WAR goes from 37 to 75 real quick.

So let them have it, but if they dont make progress on that job ever give them lots of shit for it.

I always support the "common sense" rule. Just give a said item to a member who most deserve it, will use it for the LS not for his personal benefit (farming/merits..etc) and makes a good use for it.

We don't have a main job rule or anything, we have certain people come with certain jobs during certain events, like a member in my shell has NIN BLM WHM MNK RDM always comes as BLM to everything but comes as NIN to sea events, Proto-Ultima and Aspidochelone. So it leaves his RDM WHM and MNK for his own (sometimes for the LS). But still he's in one of the most pimped out person in the whole server (BB full god set full shura for his MNK and NIN, dalma/mask/crimson body/sea capes for his RDM and lolAH WHM stuff with a gaiter).

Oh and btw, you will have drama within the LS if you got your 1st ever item, like when you get your 1st E.body for example there will be like 4 WARs 1 BST and 3 DRKs (maybe) wanting it? that's just an example, but when your LS has 10 or so of that said item, the next E.body will be almost free or as I call it (an encouragment item) an item you give to those who didn't get so many but worked for too long.

Point system sux, last Ultima Feet went to a RDM and Hands went to a WHM. And we have a member with like 10 Lv75 jobs who comes only RDM and sometimes BLM have 4/5 on Homam set because of the point system we use for limbus only.

PS: the "common sense" rule is the best as long as your leader doesn't let his virtualpussy lot everything.

Well I'm in an LS with a point system actually. But honestly.... with the amount of time I play I haven't even looked at the rules, I just assume that I won't be allowed to lot anything, ever, and I don't care. I just wanna play the game and it doesn't seem like there are any LS's out there where i can just join and have fun and lot items. Any LS I join I'd have to play for like 2 years and make every event constantly before I have enough points to lot a pair of Byakko's Haidate over a Whm. It's just a lot of fucking work, I have a life dammit.

I'd want to be a part of an LS like Wafik's. Get the items to the people that need them most, and Wafik seems fair. I also dated an Australian girl once, and so I may be biased. She called my hoodie a "jumper."

I hate to break this to you, points system or not. The WHM (with something else that can equip it) is going to get that before you.

Because a WHM that has been with a shell 2 years more than you deserves it.

Break what to me? I understand that, but that's my whole argument. The way that things work now is that the people who have played consistantly for the past two years get all the items, while the newer players are left on a 2-year waiting list before they get anything worthwile.

I just think it's a shitty way to run things. That's great that you guys have played for 2 years, but I don't know about deserving anything over anyone else. What does play time entitle you to anyways?

The point system just turns the game into a job is what I'm saying, and it doesn't have to be a job, and it shouldn't be a job. If everyone were to understand that if they join and LS they all have an equal shot at items they could use, then where would the problems be? I guess there would be a few people who attend every event and decide they deserve everything over everyone else, but then they would be promptly kicked so they could go join an LS where they could start earning their ever-so-precious points.

    /rant off
