Crap.. I just heard this somewhere, but I have no clue where.. But I believe it was stated that a Zelda game would never have voice acting.Originally Posted by Avé

Zelda doesnt need voice acting, none of nintendo's games do, they're fine imo with the jibber-jabber cartoony speak (super mario sunshine did this well).
Vocalized emotions/grunts/noises yeah, but full on dialogue? meh.
Personally I'm not a fan of silent protagonists, I mean, what do you know about Link other then he likes to rescue princesses and beat up Ganon?
I used to joke to my friends about Link being a retard because all he could say was "AAAAH" but anyway, silent protagonists is another topic.
Im debating whether or not to wake up as bit early to wait in line for a possible hour or so infront of Future shop tomorrow. I saw the lines for PS3 and promised myself I wouldn't be one of those fools that did it, but from what im now seeing on TP im really starting to wonder if I should.
What I think Miyamoto is going for with Link being silent is allowing you to put yourself in Link's shoes, and having you feel as if you are leading these adventures. When there is voice acting, you are more of a spectator, by making him silent it puts us into the story much more.Originally Posted by Elcura
Just my 2 rupees.
That is what he wants, thats why he never gave Link any text either.Originally Posted by Po
I agree with the no-voice acting thing, I hate voice acting in games. Actually when I first saw somebody mention "voice acting in zelda..." my blood kinda ran cold and I thought oh god no please they didn't.
Voice acting is one of the reasons I couldn't stand to play FF10. Call me shallow, but it was just way to poorly done. If a game is going to have voice acting, then there needs to be an option to turn it off.
Anyway, I'm getting a Wii tomorrow but I won't have any games for a while because I'm broke lolHopefully the sports game plus my collection of gamecube games are good enough to hold me over for the time being.
i believe in the power of super smash brothers 3
omg yes please.Originally Posted by Zalius
I didn't like VA in games until FF12, but now I'm a bit more ok with it. Having playing Link in the spectators position would suck, and I think that it's good that Miyamoto is sticking to his guns and trying to keep with old ways. Some things don't need to be integrated into next gen games, and I think this was a good one.
Some of the better games I've played lately (for PS2, granted) do not have voice acting though. Okami and Shadow of the Colossus, and they were two of the best games I've ever played in a long time!
I also didn't know this until a couple of days ago, but did you guys know that the GC version and Wii versions are mirrors of one another? For example, if you are at a spot on the Wii version where you need to make a right, in the GC version in that same spot you'd need to take a left! They said they made it this way because they wanted two different experiences. I thought that was REALLY sweet.
that is pretty sweet, but the sad part is that the GC version won't be coming out until mid december, while the Wii version is out tomorrow.Originally Posted by Lbelle
yeah i agree with this, i really dont want voice acting in this game - yet in almost every other game i play i typically want it. Zelda has always been an exception to this rule for me, it just wouldnt be the same.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
I ended up cracking and got the DS instead of Wii today, I will just wait for christmas i guesshope its the right choice. Only got New Super Mario Bro's cause i dont know what games to get, maybe i'll run back and pick something else up later, no idea what though.
Metroid, Phoenix Wright, and Trama Center are three good ones to start with.
Generally I think voice acting in games is a must, some games can get away with it, but only because they're made to be that way, SotC could've easily owned with or without VA, just that it didn't need it, Okami is the same as well, such a unique style and method of play, the game just didn't need it. But many other games really do benefit from VA, lots of RPGs at least include the Japanese sound track, but VA in games is easily getting better, I'd rather listen to most games in English then Japanese as well, because they're taking more care with their choice in VA.Originally Posted by Lbelle
Anyway, apart from that, I can deal with Link being a Silent Protagonist but I bet the rest of the world around Link could use some VA, at least it hasn't been tried so we never know. They're taken risks with Zelda, so I don't think trying VA in 1 game would hurt them at all.
I have a question. A dumb one. Please bare with me and ban me after answering. =p
I haven't preordered a Wii, but I decided I really want one now (as in tomorrow when it's released). How likely would it be to obtain one without a preorder? I realize it's probably not as hard as getting a PS3, but I know my chances are still slim.
Anyone else going the same route and attacking a retail store tomorrow in hopes of getting one?
It honestly shouldn't be that difficult to get one dude. I read that a TRU in NYC is getting over 5,000 tomorrow. Many Best Buy/Target/Wal-mart places are getting in about 50 each, and I heard some gamestop was getting in about 100. If you go when the stores open, or go there tonight at midnight you shouldn't really have a problem.![]()
May not be able to get one tomorrow, but you should be able to get one within a week or two.
Anyway, just got finished the first *real* dungeon in TP...4 hours 40 minutes playtime total :X Game is pretty damn good--puzzles are interesting, controls (and the new controller) are sweet, story is really intriguing so far.
I really don't mind the lack of VA. In fact, it's probably better without.
Shouldn't have a problem man.. just go to a more obscure place. As far as the midnight thing... you can only get it at midnight if you preordered I believe.
Man I'm pissed the EB where I preordered did not get the classic controllers in, and won't until next week. Oh well, I'll live.

If I cant get one there then at 11:00 a Toys 'r'us is opening near my place aswell. They will have 90 Wii's available. hopefully I can get one there if not at future shop.
Actually they did it this way because Link is really left-handed (as in GC version), but the majority of people on EARTH are right-handed (in Wii version). So they did it so right-handed people wouldn't have to swing the Wii remote/sword with their left, and can move him around with the nunchuk w/ the left instead.Originally Posted by Lbelle
