i don't think "manufacted" is anything but a made up word to make the world seem more colorful, similar to how Hume is used in XI and XII. and it also sounds more sophisticated when they compare it to "deifacted"

I liked a lot of Cid's lines, as well as Bergan's.

Especially the usage of "Hark!"--

--I wish I had an excuse to use "Hark!" in everyday life, but it's not very often I get to make a proclamation.

Cid had some win lines, but I had to reset and turn on subtitles to understand him at sometimes... (i.e. when he said "A trial for Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca!" - I was like, "wut...?")

Ashe's meeting with the Eccuria was the most amazingly epic dialog I've ever heard in any game ever.

That was a good custscene, but it bothered me because I was really enjoying FFXII because of the lack of any "chosen one" bullshit. I found myself sympathizing with the Archadians, who wanted to take their destiny into their own hands.
Ashe's refusal to use the power they gave her, following Basch's advice, made up for it though.

Personally, the cutscene that made me squeal with glee was the one in Archades, with the judges -- I can't recall the line precisely, but something along the lines of "this is what you get for placing your faith in gods". I am eagerly anticipating going out and hearing that in a new wumpscut or Retrosic song.

The cutscene was pretty damn good for a dub, I must admit.

A lot of the translations bothered me though...

Tyrant King -> Dynast-King
Heaven's Cocoon -> Sun-Cryst
Venus -> Venat

Other than that, it was sufficiently as epic as the original.

He then became the heavenly king, and the one with his same blood will succeed him. Walk the same road that your ancestor once did.
Ashe: The "Sword of the Heavenly King" was used for that purpose?
King Gerun: The old contract with Raithwall has already lost its power. Let us forge a new contract as proof that you are lead by us Ocuria. We will give you the sword of a new contract in order to cut new pieces of Hamaseki from the 'Heaven's Cocoon.' You will then obtain the same power as Raithwall once had. You will be able to defeat Venus.
Ashe: Venus... is also an Ocuria isn't he?
King Gerun: He is but a heretic!!
King Gerun: The power of Hamaseki is given only to the one who is chosen by us. However, Venus teaches the secrets of Hamaseki to the Humes, and imitations have been created! We cannot allow anyone to carry false Hamaseki. With the true Hamaseki in hand, annihilate them as punishment!
Ashe: Annihilate!? You are saying to destroy the Empire...?!
King Gerun: Man's children have always driven history into madness. In the short span of their lives, they mold history to meet their senseless desires, bringing it toward ruin. We immortal Ocuria lead these ignorant children of man. If we fail to deliver punishment... Ivalice will fall to ruin. We immortals have the obligation to provide a correct history, It is then also our obligation to deliver punishment to ones that fight against this correct history. Princess, You have been chosen. Take the revenge to save your country and fulfill your obligation as the chosen holy maiden.

Honestly, I think the translated ones make a lot more sense. Tyrant King is a terrible name for him, since he was known for being a legend and benefiting the world in ways nobody had before him. Tyrant implies something negative. Dynast-King just implies he was the start of a dynasty. Sun-Cryst IMO fits in better with the general high-class English tone that the game had, and I just loved the way Cid pronounced Venat.

Seriously, nowadays I'm not sure what it is with the Japanophiles bashing dubs and english translations. Yes, years ago when games had much lower budgets, the general translating was poor and inferior to the Japanese version. However nowadays, especially on big-budget titles like FF12, the dubbing and translation are nothing short of top-notch. I havent' played an FF in a while that actually lost any of the story quality in the translation. Some shittier games still do occasionally, but the vast majority do not.

That Occuria cutscene and the one at Pharos are totally mindblowing, the VA in those scenes are one of the best (the only game that usually has good voice acting is MGS).

The Pharos Lighthouse had such epic dialogue and VA you couldn't help but be in awe, Grabranth, Reddas and Cid stole the show there, absolutely amazing.

Heh heh. I just simply played the JP version back when it came out. When you hear certain names for the... 180~ hours I played the game, and suddenly hear different ones, it's kinda jarring.

Also, I never said I disliked the translated names, I simply said they bothered me. In fact, I think FFXII is probably the best dubbed game I've ever played (short of the somewhat irritating voices).

Agreed, the Cutscenes at the top of the Pharos is one of the defining moments in the entire game, how can one not love Cids Voice, not to mention him summoning his own esper (i favored famfrit in FFTA >.>)
