I believe I recall them being sold by Dyce outside KRT?

Those Windbreakers would have been very useful for the last half of that fight, if I had known about them. x.x

His Cyclones were pretty much the hardest part of that fight near the end, besides him one shotting anyone without Reverse on. It probably is possible without reverse since I went almost the whole fight without it. It would have just taken a little longer, and I was already tired from the fight. ><

1 dead person is better than 3 though, and then trying to raise them with level 50 people....fun.

Could well be, but tbh I don't care now that I'm done with everything but bestiary and quickening and maps <_<

Someone should check that out. It sounds like about the right progress in the game for the Windbreaker's DEF.

Windbreaker armor is sold in Rabanstre's armor shop after you complete Barheim Passage.

Unless they absorb 12 hit combos, i dont think they would have been better then Maximillions. Maybe it was different for others, but cyclone never really did much to me, it was the damn death strike SPAMMING, and constant 12 hit combos.

I had one windbreaker, which I wore for the first 50% or so until I noticed it wasn't making much of a difference. After that, cyclone was doing around 5000-6000 until the last 20 bars or so. Near the end it hit for consistant 9999 (but rarely killed anyone), either because I stopped using protects or just because of his doubled level. Either way, cyclone isn't the most dangerous thing he has. maximillion/grand armor/robe of lords (for masamune user) is better imo.

whew finally beat the fucker, never used reverse, took just short of 4 hours.

almost wiped a couple times but my 1 lvl 10 remaining saved me ;D

it wasnt the combos or the cyclone, he has endeath, at least against me he did. For no apparently reason (and no not combos because I lived through his 10-12 hit combos) my characters would drop dead, on the first hit. And it wasn't his death move either (death strike? already forgot its name)

    So it WASN'T just me!

p.s. I don't believe the no reverse, no offense <_<

I didnt use reverse. I was however, level 89.

I used about 4-5 mega elixers, 53 phoenix downs, 2 elixers, and 8 hi ethers. that's about it.

If you want my strategy/item build so badly i'll key you in ;p

once I got towards the end of the fight and learned how to avoid wiping completely it just became a zombie zerg fight ;/

I was 85 and used nothing but Phoenix Downs, tbh. Lots of trips to renew 'em, though, cause I didn't want to have to start using Arise.

How the hell do you dodge 12hit with no Reverse?

Finally got this to work, replaced all :'s with spaces and stopped getting error lol.

heh I mainly used arise, I guess I'll go into my strat

First, my 3 chars, their equip and gambits

    Tank Vaan
Weapon Used Ultima blade as weapon (sometimes masamune, but it didn't cut it compared to ultima blade really)
    Head Magepower Shishak
    Body Maximillian
Acc Started with ring of renewal (regen) used sage rings when I was super low on mana, and towards end of fight kept cat ear hood on.

    Gambits

    Self Bubble
    Ally HP<60% Curaja
    Foe Patry leader's target attack
Foe Nearest visible attack (not like those two really matter P

Always kept him at front of mob...

    Mage Ashe
Weapon Death bringer mainhand, aegis offhand (aegis rocks D
    Head Circlet
Body Glimmering Robes (can't fucking get lordly)
    Acc Ribbon (for obvious reasons)
    Gambits

    Ally Any --> Arise
    Self Bubble
Status = stop >> Chronos tear
    Ally HP<70% Curaga
Ally status = petrify > stona
    Self MP <10% > Charge
    Ally Vaan > Decoy
    Ally Any Protectga
    Ally any shellga
    Foe nearest visible attack
    self libra

I main play her as leader. Always keep her away from the mob bouncing her between my tank and my DD to keep heals going. I wouldn't fully rely on gambits > always get vaan protected and shelled ASAP after death

    DD Penelo(l)
    Weapon Tournesol
    Head Magepower Shishak
    Body Maximillian
    Acc Genji Gloves

    Gambits

    Ally HP<40% Curaja
    Self Bubble
    Ally Any> hastega
self Bravery (although I didn't need it I guess, think i turned it off part way through the fight)
    Self Berserk
    Foe Patry leader's target attack
Foe Nearest visible attack (not like those two really matter P

Always kept her behind the mob by moving vaan.
She was my mana battery. Little trick I picked up lately while always being low mp and deciding who to put an esper on, was always penelo because she was my DD tank and always full mana. So i figured hey, maybe I can syphon her? Sure enough.... and with my mage if I syphon 400 mana from penelo, ashe gets 600-650 back...hax

Alright as for fighting until vaan went down via en death or death strike I had really no issues curing him, since I curaga for 7500-9999 easily, and vaan curaja's for 6500-9999 easily as well (depending on his HP, if he's in crit full w/e)

anywho I'm sure you all know how the fight goes, so for the 12 hit combos (which you guys overexaggerate to be every hit WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much) it's not THAT often, although he can do it a few times in a row, there are MANY rounds where he does just a single hit. Anyway, he hits me for between 1500-2500 on vaan, so once the combo starts, vaan would pretty much curaja himself (ashe's curaga wouldnt kick in since vaan was curaja'ing) at which point I would manually cast curaga on vaan, then curaja w/ vaan, then curaga until the chain was over. It wasn't easy, But I managed...most of the time.

It was all really about keeping vaan and ashe with mana. Syphon worked alot, but at times I ran out completely (rebuffing every time I had a death sucked), so I resorted to using a couple mega elixers (I think this is the first ff game where I finally gave in and used them, dunno why I never do, I just always feel like they're hard to come by and I should save them for something super hard, well yiazmat was that)

Cyclone was never a problem at all, I would manually esuna / esunaga it off. When He goes into his death strike frenzy, if you dont perform an action against him while getting raised and are far away enough, he starts buffing himself. So to avoid a full wipe, just move away from him with a newly raised character. he'll cast prot >shell >regen > brave >faith > etc.

Oh right, when ashe would die i'd manually arise her with vaan.

one part of the fight that fucked me up was when he cast reflectga on me and I had to dispel myself....man that was a bad idea lol, vaan died asap.

Any other questions I can answer, But I didn't use reverse during the fight (alright, I used it once or twice at the begining around 85% just to see what it even really was capable of, but then was like f this easier to just cure)

You don't dodge anything. You go down around hit number 7 or 8, then cast arise before he starts the next combo.

Hit seven or eight? Jesus, you must have protect up and more HP than I did, I'd've gone down hit five. But I can see what you mean. Cyclone just wipes you, then, or mdef+ swap, or what?

I was level 99, with 12,000 hp for basch and 11,000 for the other two. This is after I stopped bothering with protect. Cyclone damage is capped at 9999, so it reliably won't kill anyone. Of course, this is only for the last 10 bars or so, after he stops using white breath and stone breath. Before that I kept protect/haste/bravery up and didn't use arise quite as much, although the stop effect on white breath gave me some trouble for a while. All 3 characters getting stopped was the only time I had to switch in a backup character, and I had to go buy more chronos tears at one point.

But ribbon means no genji glove/cat ear hood/whatever. Cat ears + ninja sword outdamages basically everything but the tournesol.

I beat him this go around with level 77-78(mains), 60(subs, raise whores). 1 Tournesoul, no reverse, just a very ingenious setup of gambits/gear, took 8 stages due to restocking at town for P Downs, but really at 70+ my strat worked well because when he doubles his level being 99 or 69 isnt going to save you from insta death and his multihit combos. If you are curious how I set it up and survived, can PM me.
