It's a bonus... Just another thing that the PS3 could do.

It needs to be hacked to do so. Or am I wrong? Wii has this as part of the VC program. The real question is why bother modding a PS3 to do so when most PC's can run almost every emulator and game out there. Without running the risk of turning it into a $600+ dollar brick.

We'll see though... If Sony somehow manages to make emulation impossible and severly gimps any "homebrew" linux things, then it takes the system down a notch.

This is most definetly going to happen. My PSP is constantly getting upgraded so it never can run the latest homebrew app. It's just a matter of time until I manage to brick my system.

I'm not knocking the system as I'll probably get one when the Hype is over. Only reason I didn't get one is that I've been burned by Sony on every first release system they've put out. I got my PS1 and PS2 on day 1 release and have had them fail shortly after using them. I'm not gonna beta another Sony product, especially since they've identified problems with the PS3 on release. Until I do pick one up Zelda and GoW will be my offline entertainment. (Besides Porn)

It's an emulator running in Linux, which Sony endorses the use of and has step by step instructions on how to install on the playstation website. Why and how would they stop you from running a Linux app when they support Linux?

if you want to emulate games up to the N64, get a XBox. hell, even a GBA can emulate NES games.

You don't buy a PS3 for the emulation. you buy it to ebay It is an added bonus on top of the delightful selection of PS3 games. That's the point he was trying to make.

You can mod DS's to play nes/snes/genesis too.

I'm not even saying there's a good selection of games... There's Resistance and that's about it. Same old crappy launch that we all expected from Sony. That doesn't take anything away from the power that PS3 has...

Having all kinds of homebrew things is just a bonus, and if they can make GC/xbox games work with PS3 it'll be very awesome. Saying they can't do this is silly, saying they wont is plausible since it would take a lot of work coding emulators, yet there are tons of computer dorks our there ready and willing to try I bet. Would it be a sole reason to pay $600 for a PS3? Not really. Will it, along with many other factors, be a reason to get a PS3? I think so.

I'm still waiting for price cut 1, probably sometime around christmas 2007. In the meantime I just see no really good reason to buy a 360 or Wii, both of which will be dated in 2 years. PS3's lifetime is right up until the next next-gen.
