I swear I saw Vaan score a critical with a sword in Giruvegan at one point. Maybe I'm just imagining things though, I dunno.

I've seen crit hits with Greatswords from a few chars, although maybe only a handful at most.

I honestly see little to no use for any sort of light armor.

Sure the hp bonus in theory is nice, but you lose so much defense in comparison to the best heavy armor compared to best light armor that the hp bonus is lost in extra damage you take from your first hit.

If whatever armor gives you 100 hp having it equipped compared to whatever heavy armor which takes almost 100 less damage a hit in comparison.

Am I making any sense? I don't think I am. lol

Well for one thing, only the heavy armor body piece has more def. The head pieces give less mdef than the light piece at the same level iirc. And many mobs, including some bosses, don't use magic damage in the first place, so wearing a light armor hat would add more hp than a mystic armor hat, and the mdef lost wouldn't make much difference.

Of course, you could just be cheap like me, get 3 dragon mails and 3 celebrants miters from the chests in barheim and wear those until the endgame. At that point the extra str from heavy helmets will outweigh magic defense simply because normal mobs die in 2 hits and optional bosses require more strategy than overpowered gear.

Here is pretty much everything you needa know about weapons..

Level 20-40 Zodiac Speak is the best weapon, but once it starts to hit for 9999 it becomes very inefficient.

Level 40-60 Tournesol is king because you're doing less damage per hit for the chance to attack more than once. At level 60 the Tournesol starts to suck again because you're capped at 9999 damage per hit a lot of the times with bravery and berserk up.

Level 60+ Masamune is king because you're doing less damage per hit for the chance to attack more than once more often. End game the setup of lordy robes, magepower shishak, gengi glove, and Masamune does more dps than any other setup in the game.

One thing more significant than the weapons themselves is who is actually wielding them, Vaan is overpowered and does the most damage with every weapon type except maces.

Vaan gets a Masamune obviously. Ashe is stronger than Basch with a Masamune so I give her one. They both wear robes and shishack. Vaan gets the glove and Ashe wears cat-hood. Wearing Lordy robes they don't have the best defense so I give Basch the Tournsol and have him tank with Maximillion and a Shishak too. It works out because Basch is stronger with the Tournsol than Ashe is and he has more HP so it just makes sense for him to tank while Vaan rips the living shit out of everything and Ashe tries to keep up

Curing gives good hate, there is even a npc in the bazaar that tells you mobs hate healing more than anything. So Bashe usually just throws down the Curaja's while Ashe keeps decoy on him.

You can't really count berzerk all of the time though, because someone needs to be able to actually cure and esuna still. At 75 I'm still not doing 9999 with tournesol consistantly even to normal mobs, because I don't use berzerk (and it's on Basch because I didn't level Vaan).
