Black is easier anyways, I never refer to myself as half "african america." And what about the Jews? We were enslaved longer than the blacks and under harsher terms. I demand to be called an Israeli-American!
Jews weren't enslaved in America. Also, the enslavement of Africans, not just in America, lasted roughly 400 years. I do not know what Jewish enslavement was longer than that, if you are thinking of their enslavement in Egypt, that lasted about 100 years. And I can debate the harshness of the terms compared to African enslavement too.
It is the same damn thing..

    Black people enslaved white people.

    White people enslaved black people.

None of the enslaved people are alive today so.. so its fucking irrelevant to argue over who was enslaved more or less or harder or whatever. It is almost as ignorant as people who argue that white racist are somehow more racist than black racist, thats fucking racist too.

Kramer's career in freefall after fresh claims of racism

The career of actor Michael Richards, famed as Seinfeld's wacky neighbour Kramer, took a further nosedive today as fresh details of his racist comments came to light.

Richards launched a furious rant at two black hecklers during a standup show in Los Angeles last weekend.

At the request of pal Jerry Seinfeld, Richards later appeared via satellite on the David Letterman Show to apologise.

But he has now been accused of making anti-Jewish comments during a stand-up routine as well.

Richards allegedly lashed out at Jews during performance earlier this year, yelling at one audience member: "You're a f***ing Jew. Your people are the cause of Jesus dying."

Carol Oschin, who was at the show, said: "We didn't know if this was part of the act. He was getting very (verbally) violent, very agitated."

THE ARTICLE CALLED THEM BLACK, NOT AFRICAN AMERICANS !!!!

    THATS RACISTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
I have not and will not ever call them african-americans. Start calling me irish-american instead of white, then maybe I will. Or even caucasian.

....What in god's name does calling someone black or african-american have to do with slavery, maybe negro or colored but the other 2 have nothing to do with racism or oppression? By the way, Jews were slaves first, who the fuck do you think built the pyramids? If you say aliens I'll kill your family.

One could also argue the Irish were pretty damn close with the way Britain treated them and the strangle hold they had on Ireland. Potato famine ring any bells?

I know they built the fucking pyramids, notice i mentioned Egyptian enslavement. I am well aware of what was going on then. Whoever was enslaved first is irrelevent, it was both in the past. Like you, I was unaware of the history of all the terms given to blacks, however i have taken several classes that went into great depth about it.

The Irish werent enslaved or necessarily close, and the potato famine was a result of poor climate, not the British. To be a slave is to be property, less than human, like an animal. The Irish were not bought or sold. They were treated like shit and exploited, yes, but they were never property.

I don't get all the complaining about "reverse racism" - someone was heckling him (what they said isn't shown, but if it was anything serious they would have been kicked out of the club before a reaction like his was warranted), but he flew off the handle with racist crap that is way, way out of line. Yeah, George Carlin came down pretty hard on that other heckler, but he did it in a general way and for comedic effect; Kramer did the same thing with harsh racial insults that may have been offensive not only to the person he was talking to, but also to other black people in the audience or watching a recording of the show because saying things like "50 years ago we'd have you hanging from a tree" isn't funny.

    Lol.

Have you ever been to a big-time comedy club? Heckling is part of the experience many times - you'd have to be seriously unruly to get thrown out - and heckling with speech alone is not, unless it's the most extreme circumstances, warranting an ejection.

I think part of the problem here is that many, many of the people judging this situation haven't really been to comedy clubs in NY/LA - they think that comedy shows are normally like what they see on Comedy Central - controlled, relatively clean, TV friendly. A large portion of the time they are not. These are the places where the edges of comedy are explored and pushed, and punishing someone this hard for going overboard while pushing these limits is ridiculous. I don't want my comics being gunshy on stage - sometimes you have to go with your gut and display what is inside. If you can't do that on a non-televised stand-up comedy stage for an audience of adults without fear of ridiculous backlash if it goes wrong, the art form is neutered.

    And that's terrible.

You're dense. Why do you think a potato famine killed so many people? It was the only thing they could eat. Which was directly the fault of the British.

There was also such a thing as indentured servants.

so you see nothing wrong with Richards' actions?
You see nothing wrong with the "victims'" actions? I'm sorry but if you heckle someone performing on stage, expect the worst. Richards could have gone about it in a less extreme way, obviously, but imo it's the heckler's fault if he started it(which we don't know).

Oh, I definitely see something wrong with his actions. He was on stage at a stand-up comedy club and he wasn't funny.

You go to a stand-up comedy club to see a comedian A) Be funny and B) Express themselves.

He failed at A. The fact that he went crazy overboard going nuts on some Jewish people in the same manner a while ago should basically exonerate him from the "you're racist" persecution that everyone is trying to toss on him. Going on race/religion-oriented diatribes is how he has dealt with hecklers in the past, this wasn't the first time. The first time he gets off the P.C. police hook basically because he's jewish, but the 2nd time it's the "worst thing that's ever happened ever" because he's not black?

It's clear that if you heckle him and piss him off enough, the gloves will come off. He's not saying what he believes (since he obviously doesn't believe all the things he said to the jews at the first show), he's saying the worst thing he can possibly say to get back at the heckler. It's what he does. Re-evaluate your opinion of his comedy, i.e. "He's not funny" or your propensity to see him do standup, i.e. "I don't like seeing Michael Richards' stand-up because he goes nuts on hecklers and it sucks" but don't judge the person for what they do in the pursuit of comedy, or the evolution of comedy will suffer.

Again, I don't want "calling a black heckler a nigger" to be off-limits when I pay to see a stand-up comedy show.

All I'm wondering is whether or not the black people heckling him used some racial slures that started it.. I could imagine some black guys saying something like "that cracka ain't funny" or something along those lines. If that was the case then although it was still way overboard, at least the racist tirade makes sense.

Anyways black people really don't have any claim to use their race card.. It's just plain stupid. Like people have mentioned at some point in time everyone on Earth's relatives were slaves. Whether they were enslaved by the Romans/Greeks/Persians/Egyptians/ect.. or Americans, it makes no difference. What's done is done and it doesn't affect you anymore so stop using it to your advantage.

you are right about the British factor in the famine, my bad.

    however:

indentured servents, while being exploited, did so often to gain passage to some other country. they did it on their own accord. their service lasted roughly 8 years.

slavery was forced. you are a slave for life, as are your children, unless you buy you freedom, which was insanely expensive.

That argument is so dumb, stop playing the whole racist card here. If black people think someone that is VERY VERY angry at them calling them a "nigger" is over the line, they need to quit calling each other that. What Richards did was over the line, but what the fuck with all of this outrage. Grow a pair and stop hiding behind racism, accept the fact actions have consequences.

Edit: And that Lawyer needs to shut the fuck up. Honestly, what. the. fuck.

Again, I don't want "calling a black heckler a nigger" to be off-limits when I pay to see a stand-up comedy show.
ok, to each his own. clearly you are not black.
That argument is so dumb, stop playing the whole racist card here. If black people think someone that is VERY VERY angry at them calling them a "nigger" is over the line, they need to quit calling each other that. What Richards did was over the line, but what the fuck with all of this outrage. Grow a pair and stop hiding behind racism, accept the fact actions have consequences.[/quote:3f020]

its his problem if he gets VERY VERY angry for people talking "too loudly" while ordering a drink during one of his shows. i am not hiding behind racism, i would bet he probably isnt deep down a racist, but the use of Nigger by a white person is out of line at anytime. it doesnt matter how many times black people use it, its different. go ahead and start bitching about that fact like everyone does.

    And that's terrible.
so you see nothing wrong with Richards' actions?
Oh, I definitely see something wrong with his actions. He was on stage at a stand-up comedy club and he wasn't funny.

You go to a stand-up comedy club to see a comedian A) Be funny and B) Express themselves.

uh...if a black person doesnt want the white devil to call him a nigger, then the black person shouldnt be calling the white devil a cracker ass.

the white devil thing is cute. and lets clarify that the word cracker does not carry nearly the same weight as nigger, tho i do recorgnize they are both slurs.

however, in this case of michael richards, he had already called the two men niggers. im not condoning calling him a name back, but its not like they walked into the club, pointed at him and said "cracker!"
