Enmity- only matters in fights like Fafnir etc, that take more than 5 minutes and one tank of MP, and the mob can actually kill a BLM. Even then... it has a minimal effect on big nukes. Wearing tons of -enmity is not going to allow you to get an extra tier 4 nuke off without hate.

As for Demon +1... yeah, I usually wear Sorc. Petasos too, at least on VT+ mobs. I swap in Demon+1 for weaker mobs, pissing contests with other BLMs, and magic bursts. It's far from useless. When you're not worried about resists, it's a damn good headpiece, and easy to obtain.

20-40~ more MP, every 1000 mp you use will not be noticeable at all. Magnetic earring fails, and so do blms who think less damage is better.

Last time ls did Kirin we only had 16 to start with and 18 to finish. So we needed to SC > MB, due to job choices. Static wielding BLMs parsed a lot higher on Kirin then lolmagnetic blms. Faster fight > 20 more mp/1000.

Since ls is small and mostly mage jobs we MB a lot of stuff: faf/nid/aspid/behamut v1,2/ouryu/ks99/ultima/dynamislord/NMs in new dynamis zones.

For any career BLM, static is the way to go. If you just have 75BLM for situation fights or dynamis, or other mage jobs to 75 then Magnetic > Static. Otherwise for career BLMs:

-Novio/Moldy for normal nukes, Abyssal if you don’t have novio.

    -Novio/Static for Magic Bursting

-Abyssal/Dark earring for dark magic spells.

-Relaxing earring/Any +1 resting earring for resting.

    -Enfeebling earring for enfeebling spells.

Only other earrings that you should be using in very rare fights would be Novia, Elemental earring, or a MP-HP earring for sorc ring macro.

Maybe so, but that's not what I was rolling my eyes at. Useless doesn't imply placebo effect, which is what Trixi always says about -Enmity (which is bullshit of course).

My thoughts? there is no problem.
18 INT > 20 MAB = worth investigating if just to find out INT build is better for some mobs than MAB build.
who cares? you're doing 1400+ damage. and you still want to "investigate" on tweaking out an EXTRA 9 dmg? an extra 0.65% damage? oh please. as long as you aren't dying on an MB vs an HNM and as long as you aren't getting resisted on every MB, then you should already be at least 2 standard deviation above the "joe casual" level 75 BLM. god people have way to much time.

Just get a smart BRD tank that has +hp and enmity gear.
BLMs in ls all compete to who can pull hate from the BRD. It's fun and faf fights only last 10-20 min depending on people.

To that, I will replied with what sage sundi would say the best.

    Wut?

Magnetic earring will proc on 5% of those spell, dunno why you say it wouldnt proc. 2 int simply allow me to overkill the monsters that would be dead anyway.
Conserve MP is shit, even if the +5 makes it proc 5% more, it does NOT have ANY effects on the % of MP conserved, that is a random amount. I don't see why you're arguing over Magnetic being used anyway. Since you have Novio, if you use Magnetic instead of Moldavite in any situation you fail miserably as BLM.
Uh so if I gave you a piece of equipment that made conserve mp kick in 100% of the time, it would be shit because it still saves only ceil(mpcost*rnd(1,8)/16) on each spell? Nice logic you got going there.

As I put in my post before, the actual mp conserved by mag earring averages out to about 1.5% in the long run. Small amount? Sure, but it's better than the 0% of nukes which would be enhanced by static earring. Seeing as adding an omni/morion+1/phantom+1 earring for +2 int would add no real benefit for soloing (how often do you kill the mob by 20 damage or less?), and I don't have access to a novia, next best option for ear2 is magnetic.

I already have the MND necessary for max stoneskin, and I never MB, so static earring reads to me as "+2 MDB". I'll pick +5 conserve MP over +2 MDB.

I'm sorry to interrupt but I just needed some clarification. I got to page three and kind of ground to a halt because this didn't make much sense in my feeble melee-oriented brain.

This thread sprang to life because the OP regularly did 9 damage less with Thunder IV right?

    Nine damage?

Jesus, I thought DD jobs were overly anal about things. Swing your e-peen at it and make up the difference. Even an insecure 3 incher will poke whatever you're nuking for nine damage.

Edit: I do understand that it's move of a MAB vs. INT discussion (and associated derails). It just seems too trivial to actually care about.

Why does there have to be a right answer, especially when the people here have vastly different circumstances in mind when they're making their arguments.

In general, when your LS is fighting ____, your goal is to do as much damage as possible over the course of the fight. If you aren't doing as much damage as you could because you're resisting a lot, wear more elemental skill gear. If it's because you are running out of MP, get more MP/Conserve MP. If it's because you're pulling hate and dying, get more -enmity. If all those other things are balanced, then add in damage wherever, even if it's only one or two slots. I know most of you know this already, and I'm preaching to the choir, but these arguments make it sound like you think there's ONE RIGHT ANSWER and everyone who doesn't adhere to that is a noob.

Imagine if every point of STR and ATK added a linear amount of damage to your WS, enough that you could calculate it with precise consistency for your gear setup. Now imagine you have a max WS setup, Shura, etc, and then some person you PT who WSs in much worse gear than you consistently outdamages your WS. You'd be curious as to how no?

Its not about the actual number, its about the gear difference and analyzing how its possible.

These are Black Mages we are dealing with here. Black Mages - especially Tarutaru Black Mages - are the very epitome of the phrase; "Power corrupts - Absolute Power corrupts absolutely"

In short, Black Mages are crazy. Especially Tarutaru ones.

It's kinda wierd how the way the players act is just like how the NPCs act, too.

Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I didn't see an answer. Was that guy's nuke hitting before the OP's? Would that make a difference in damage, because of the 'BLM nerf?'

There were alot of issues I understood your perspective on and agreed to a point with you about until you said this.

-emnity plays a critical role in how a BLM can perform at their job and/or effect their alliance.

Did you read the rest of the post? I said it does matter in fights that:
    - take more than a few minutes
    - aren't manaburned
    - aren't kited

Which are few and far between. Hence -enmity being useless in most situations. Not all, but most. It isn't going to make up for being unable to control hate. It isn't going to let you do another tier 4 nuke without getting hate.

    "Critical role"? Gimme a break.

Thank you Palin. That's an answer I could wrap my "SPELLS ARE SCARRY" brain around. Being able to precisely predict how your damage will look isn't something I'm used to.

Yes, I did read your entire post. Any time you have a tank in your party or alliance, -emnity will benefit you as a black mage. On large scale fights, yes it even becomes critical unless of course you enjoy having your face planted in the ground alot or just want a be a rest > MB > rest > MB type of BLM thats too self absorbed to toss a cure on his tank because the WHM needs to rest MP for a minute.

I notice that the majority of taru blms are EXTEREMELY agitated when a Hume or other race blm puts up superior numbers than theirs Talk about racism and superiority complexes.
